Chapter 11

Arriving at Thanatos' house, I got out of the car and followed the man inside. He told me to head up to the room I'd used that weekend and to get some rest. I didn't need to be told twice. I had been falling asleep in the car on the ride over. I was so drained, and it was so late that sleep would surely come easy to me.

I thanked Thanatos before retreating up the stairs and to the room he'd lent me. Once inside, I kicked off my sneakers and climbed into bed. Sleep eluded me, though. Now that I actually had a chance to fall asleep. Getting up, I walked over to the window and watched the night sky for some time. When it became evident that I was wide awake, I went back downstairs, planning on asking Thanatos if he had any chamomile tea. I stopped halfway down the stairs when I heard the front door open.

"Thank you for doing this, Charon," I heard Thanatos say. "I'll take these up to Andy's room."

"There's no need to thank me, Thanatos. I just wish there was more that I could do. Who would do such a thing?" Charon said, her lilted voice unmistakable.

"Possibly The Memitim. You looked through the same emails I did. They want her badly. And you know as well as I do that they're not right in the head. I just don't know how to tell Andy that it was a Reaper that killed her neighbor. We talked about the woman over the weekend. Andy spoke so fondly of her. It was no doubt devastating news to hear that she'd been murdered."

"I'll get to work in the morning, looking over the printouts of the emails. If anything in there mentions something that could be of use, I'll let you know."

"Thanks again."

"No problem." I heard the dark-haired woman walk out of the house and the door close behind her.

I quickly made my way back up to my room and lay in bed, thinking about what I'd just heard. When the door opened, I sat up and watched as Thanatos set my belongings on the dresser. He looked over towards the bed and started when he saw me sitting up.

"Andy. I thought you were asleep." Even in the dark room, dimly lit by the light streaming in from the hallway, I could see his brow creased in concern.

"It's eluding me. Do you have any chamomile tea?"

"I think so. Come on. Let's get you some."

We walked downstairs and headed for the kitchen, each having a cup of tea. As we sipped out ea, we talked and got to know each other.
