Arrival of a Rival

"I can't believe you made me forget my rover." I whined. "I had to take Pvt Chaps's."

"So... what? He and Sgt Hammer with Lt Ageis then?" Lt Frui asked.

"Basically. Think we made too much noise?"

"Yeah. Should we shrink the group more?"

"Good idea." I replied. On the radio, "Guys, rendezvous by the grey trees."

"Yes sir." They replied.

"Excuse me, Lt Ageis?" Sgt Hammer started.

"Yes?" I responded, not looking up from the schematics of the comms section.

"We're nearing the base."

"Great. We'll take a break for a final review before going in. Dismissed."

"Sir!" Sgt Hammer saluted before leaving.

Man, Han is bold as ever. Makin' my job harder.

The convoy stopped for a break. Some men came my truck.

"Okay, here's what's up." I begin.

Then the enemy artillery started firing at our main force as they made their assault.

"Huh. Totally forgot we're behind schedule." I said dumbly. "Go to the rendezvous! Prioritize preparations for enemy reinforcements! Break's over, move!"

Men began to move.

"Wait, Sgt Just, organize a small group for me. Emphasize the need for stealth."

"Yes sir!"

I immediately went to the truck with the most explosives and ordered the men around to bring whatever more explosives they could find to it. I made sure to fish out a detonator.

"Sir!" Sgt Just reported with 6 others.

"Thanks, Sgt. Alright, do any of you know how to drive a truck?"

"I'm pretty good at that." Pvt Chaps replied.

"Great! The rest of you will provide covering fire from these locations." I continue, pulling out a map and pointing at 5 points. "Pvt Chaps, you are going to drive the truck directly into the comms tower. Be sure to just direct the truck and then jump out. Once the truck is far enough from you and close to the tower, I want you to detonate the explosives." I ordered, handing him a detonator. "Good luck. I'll be with the main group. Report to me once you're done. Dismissed."

"Yes sir!" They saluted.

(POV: Enemy Major)

"So, no dice?" I asked.

"It seems the their previous actions towards our trap had altered their plan, sir." A Lt responded.

"Man, they really caught on too quickly. We must've had a leak. Ugh, two Cpts gone, just like that." I complained. "Any word from the spies?"

"Well, from the most recent report, their espionage group is still gonna try something, sir. The one targeting comms, I mean."

"I'll leave them Cpt Net. Be sure to tell him."

"Already sent a message, sir."

"Anything from the reinforcements?"

"They'll be here in about 5 hours, sir."

"Wonderful. You're dismissed." I finish. I doubt things will go according to plan. "Lt? Can you send in Lt Yick?"

"Yes sir!" The Lt said as he left.

The Lucas Tanks are working like a charm.

"Cpt Wif, whatcha lookin' at? Admiring the tanks again?" Maj Gunnery asked.

"Ack! I mean, no..." I responded, surprised. "Aren't you supposed to be on the other flank?"

"You're the one hangin' around the middle." He responded.

"Ya know, they really aren't firing back much." I said.

"Must be trying to wait out the barrage. With Recon Company behind schedule, they've probably got reinforcements comin'." He said.

"We better get moving on plan B then." I responded.

"Alright." He said. In his radio, "All units, prepare to move to plan B. Tanks, report when ready."

"Ready!"

"Fire!"

The front door and left fall we're blown apart and infantry began to move.

"Oh no..." Maj Gunnery said. To his radio, "All units fall back! Don't charge! I repe-"

The the Duke Tank hiding behind the door blew apart the Lucas Tank nearest to us and enemy infantry fired on the stunned infantry from the battlements. Other medium tanks rolled out from the storage hole and began engaging with our left flank.

Then I noticed a truck that started coming further along the left. The man inside jumped out as it made its way to the comms tower. However, one of the medium tanks immediately blew it off its wheels. Otherwise, it was still intact.

Then the enemy artillery started firing again into our line a bit more accurately.

"Those crackin' spies!" Maj Gunnery concluded.

(POV: Enemy Reinforcements' Major)

"So they are pinned by the Duke, correct?" I asked.

"Yes Maj Klooney." Maj Slans responded.

"We'll take care of your rear, so don't worry about them. Focus on the front. Let's see... Ah, yes. Did your trap work?"

"Er... no."

"Leak?"

"Maybe... We're looking into it."

"Sir! We are meeting resistance!" A soldier called.

"You're already here!?"

"Timing is everything, dear sir. Don't worry about it. Adios!" I turned off the call.

Isn't this exciting! My spies really got a big one! Of course, they'll catch on, so we'll have to wipe out the battalion, but capture isn't out of the picture. I'm really glad I got the chance to participate in this victory. Screw the Baron, the "glory" is mine!
