Two Versus One

. . .

In the middle of the night, Zeirenne got out of bed. She stood on her door to listen, in case Jin was standing outside. Upon making sure that he was not around, she moved in silence, sneaking out of the hotel to go somewhere else.

When morning came, Jin looked at his watch, wondering why Zeirenne was not coming out of her door.

"Mister Yang, everyone's ready now," Miss Jones said.

He gave her a nod before stepping forward to knock on Zeirenne's door. After a few minutes of knocking, no one came to greet him. He took his phone out of his pockets and dialed Zeirenne's number. Still, there was no answer.

His chest hurt. But worry flushed him more.

"Where in the world are you?"

He's always worried whenever she's not within his sights. Not because he's afraid of her leaving, but because he knows her well. Danger, is not in her vocabulary. She prefers sugarcoating it as adventure.

"Where the hell are you?" he repeated before heading out to the beach.

He dialed her phone for so many times, while searching around the beach, going back to all the places her eyes sparkled upon gazing into. He entered an ice cream parlor she wanted to visit but didn't have the time to. Afterwards, he visited a souvenir shop, but came out without the big plushie he was looking for.

His heart almost skipped a beat when his phone rang inside his pockets, to his disappointment though, the caller was Assistant Colton.

"What is it, Colton?" he said upon picking up, his voice overcome by dread and irritation.

"Mister Yang, there's a letter left for you here in the lobby."

His eyebrows furrowed and he felt his chest rising. He was having a very bad feeling and his grip grew hard into the phone. He was gripping his phone too hard, the sides started cracking. Losing his phone is not the best scenario now that Zeirenne's nowhere to be found. He was not praying for it, but if she's somewhere in need of help, it's better to keep things ready.

His long strides paved the sands, with his dread weighing every step down. He headed for the lobby, flushed from the adrenaline as he approached the receptionist.

"I heard there's a letter addressed for me here? Where is it?"

The receptionist, who needed a few seconds to let herself free from his dazzling charms, reached out for a red envelope which matched her face at that moment.

"This is the letter addressed for Mr. Yang," she said while tucking a few hairs behind her ears.

Jin tore the envelope, and pulled a small paper out.

Mr. Hans Young,

I am now heading off for...

Just from the first sentence, he skipped through all the paragraphs down to the signature.

"Fucc!" he shouted while gripping his hair, "Where the hell are you?!"

He was about to explode from anger, when at last, for the first time this morning, he was able to think clearly.

"Dylan..." he dialed Dylan's number. After a few rings, the call was answered.

"Hello Jin? What's wron-"

"Is Zeirenne with you?" he snapped.

The other line fell silent, and he grew more impatient, "Hello Dylan? Is Zeirenne with you?"

"Oh she's not here..." Dylan said, "But she left me a note saying that she'll take the last flight."

"What?"

"It's okay. You can go ahead. I'll stay with her." Dylan said on the other line before ending the call.

Jin felt something was off. He couldn't make something out of worry.

"Mr. Young, we have to go now. Or we'll miss the flight." Assistant Colton said. He was pulling Jin's trolley with him.

"You go ahead Colton, I'm not gonna leave this place without her."

Jin started walking to different places again. All of a sudden, a certain mountain peak caught his attention. "If it's a high place, she'll probably want to go there," he convinced himself.

He had to go deeper into the forest before reaching a path for the trek. He started climbing his way up the steep mountain.

About 200 meters from him, two masked figures were talking in signals.

"Do you think we can beat him both?" one of them said.

"It's alright. We got this don't worry."

As Jin climbed the mountain in a overwhelming godly speed, the two masked figures had to move fast in swinging from tree to another. They were bound to lose him if it weren't for their sharp senses.

One of them gestured, "I'll go for the nape,"

And the other one, crunched his nose under the mask, "Ok," he gestured.

They were about to execute their plan but Jin stopped on his tracks.

"Come on out, I already knew you were there even since I first stepped into this mountain," he said and the two masked figures eyed each other.

Left with no choice, they both decided to settle everything with a head-to-head confrontation. There were two of them, and they saw this as an advantage against Jin who was all alone.

"Then that leaves us with no choice," the other masked figure said with a very feminine voice.

She jumped up the tree as her partner stepped forward for a hand-and-hand combat with Jin. This guy sparked Jin's interest, he felt his opponent's strength and it was that of a professional's.

They exchanged punches and kicks. Ordinary audiences won't be able to enjoy this fight if there were some. At extremely fast speed, they were throwing jabs against each other, more than the actual eyes can permit.

On the top of the tree, the lady sat still, loading one of her needles with a tranquilizer.

From a tall height, she lounged the needle towards his neck. With only a centimeter gap, Jin was able to stop this needle from reaching him, and he eyed the lady with rage.

"If Zeirenne was here, she'd be so upset from such an underhanded move," he thought to himself.

He got serious. In one swift move, he grabbed the man's arm, twisting it to his back. The man grunted and he furrowed his eyebrows from this. Something felt wrong, very wrong.

"Don't brake his bones tsk!" the woman yelled.

Jin looked at her abruptly, "What-"

Before he could finish his words, he felt a slight ting on his arms. After that, everything went dark.

"Mission Accomplished!" he heard them rejoicing before losing consciousness.
