Cortana's POV
The day before
Rat-tat-tat
There was a knock on my chamber door, "Who is it?" I called. It's probably my maid. When your father is the king it does come with some perks. Like good food, nice outfits (that you have to wear whether you like it or not), and a few others. But, also some downfalls, like not getting a choice in certain things or not being able to be yourself outside of your room.
I was in loose fitting trousers and a loose shirt, I looked at my rose colored cloak that was hanging by my mirror. "Your father," I heard the reply, my eyes widened as I ran to hide the cloak. I looked around my chamber's and found one of my dresser drawers open. I scrambled to put it in there and closed it.
"Come in," I said, sitting down at my make-up table. I looked in the mirror as I grabbed my brush, my father entered. I began brushing my hair back out of my face as he came over to me.
"I will be in a meeting for most of the day," my father told me, I nodded.
"Okay," I said, "did you actually need anything?"
He stared at me for a moment, shocked that I was talking back, but I really didn't care. "No, but I expect you to be ready to go for your classes at noon." I nodded.
Yeah, after I sign up for the king's assassin's tryouts. "Yes, father," I answered, he nodded at me, then left my chambers.
About fifteen minutes later, I was outside and at the sign up, I put down a different name than my own. I turned around to see a boy with long blonde hair and with brown eyes behind me, I saw that he was staring at me as I walked away from the sign up sheet. I had to be back here at five a.m.
