Chapter 2: History

Xavier walked into his sister's room, which was bigger than his own by quite a bit. He wasn't mad about it though because he was the one who recommended she get the bigger better room. He loved his sister more than anyone and he was willing to sacrifice everything for his family to begin with.

Walking into the room he could see she was fake sleeping so he went next to the bed and started to tickle her. She started laughing and tried to kick him off of her bed saying, "Bad brother! I was trying to sleep!"

While looking at her playfully pouting face, he pinched her cheeks. "You were faking your sleep! Lying gets your cheeks pinched!" He started making his hands resemble a lobster claw and making snap noises with his hands.

Suddenly Annie had a sad look on her face. "Brother are we going to have another winter where we don't have any food?"

Surprised, Xavier finally understood why she was fake sleeping. "So you were eavesdropping! No wonder you were faking your sleep, but honestly I don't know. If I have too i will fight the biggest beast out there just for you so we can all eat together and fill our bellies." Xavier said while over exaggerating how big the beast he was willing to kill.

Giggling at the weird movements her brother was making, she asked him "Brother, I'm turning 10 soon so can I help kill beasts?"

His sister was always one not to shy away from what's considered masculine activities. She would rather play fight with wooden swords than go and clean or do laundry. Sure there were female adventurers out there, but they always were discriminated against as being weaker so they hardly ever were given jobs thay fit their talents.

He looked at his sister and said, "When I become and strong adventurer and create my own Sect I'll make you my number one hunter! We will explore, fight, kill, and take whatever we want!"

Looking at the enthusiasm her brother was showing she was equally as excited for that future.

"Come little one, let's go check on the crops." He said whilst taking a peek at his Status screen.

[Name: Xavier Nightengale - Age 16]

[Level: 1]

[Experience: 0/10]

[Class- None]

[Occupation- Peasant]

[Skills- Farming lvl 2]

[Abilities- None]

Looking at his Status screen he couldn't help feeling depressed. after 10 years he only has one skill and that's farming. The rich and noble might have held the secrets to increasing main levels and gaining classes, but they could never monopolize skills. You can gain a skill on just about anything if you work on it long enough. Although there isn't an experience indicator for skills it seems that just by using them they automatically gain experience. I just started farming this year to help out and I've already leveled it to two and that's just randomly helping out like picking weeds or even watering them.

Something I also don't understand is abilities and occupation. I've heard people in town talking about occupations though. Apparently it automatically changes whenever you get a new job or promotion. Sometimes being good at your occupation can even grant skills and abilities, but nothing was further explained.

While in his own thoughts, his sister was amused looking at him with a concentrated look on his face. "Brother if you have to use the bathroom go outside!"

Brought back from his own thoughts and interface he chased his sister playfully outside while making pinching motions with his hands.

Hearing the laughter and joy coming from their children, Trista and Razz looked at each other and laughed heartily, making their depressed mood earlier disappear like nothing happened.

"I've made my decision, love. I'm going to take Xavier out to show him the ropes on hunting and tracking. I'm not going to hunt anything, just show him. If there is danger we will immediately come home I promise l." Razz said whilst looking at his wife. He was hoping to take advantage of the new happy atmosphere in the house to finally train his son who he knew would make the family proud. He was excited to show his son all the skills he learned and how decently leveled they were to show that his old man wasn't as useless as others that lived in town unafraid of the beasts.

Trista looked at Razz seriously and said, "Fine, but absolutely no beast hunting! The last thing we need is someone injured or maimed! We don't have the coin to pay for food let alone a healer and their ridiculous prices!

Excited at being given the okay, Razz ran outside immediately to give Xavier the good news. Completely forgetting about saying thank you to his wife or even saying he loved her before he left.

Trista, still sitting in the kitchen, had a playful smile on her face watching her husband run outside thought, "Boys will always be boys. Always excited to run to danger without kissing their wives goodbye. I'll teach him when I get back how to behave!" Amused at how she was going to punish Razz when he gets back, she suddenly thought about little Annie. "I wish she was like most little girls her age. Instead of striving to be a good little girl, she wants to fight beasts just like her older brother tells her about in stories. What am I going to do with her?" She sighs at the thought of her little girl wanting to be a warrior instead of a wife that's safe from danger.
