Chapter 7

The next morning Luther Standing Bear got up and put some coffee on. Then Black Elk started to wake up, he was a little sore but he didn't show it. Then the girls started to wake up.

"Here son, drink some coffee, are you sore," asked Luther.

"Yeah, how'd you know?" asked Black Elk.

"The way you got up this morning," smiled Luther.

"Oh I'm shocked I didn't bleed again when he kicked me in the stomach," Black Elk sipping his coffee.

"I know, I'm surprised you didn't either," said Luther Standing Bear.

"May I have some please?" asked Victoria.

"You drink coffee?" asked Luther Standing Bear.

"Yes, momma lets me drink coffee," laughed Victoria.

"Okay then, here you go," said Luther Standing Bear.

"Thank you," said Victoria.

"Thank you, dad," said Gloria.

"Your welcome," said Luther Standing Bear.

They were all drinking coffee, when they were finished they packed up all their belongings and headed back home. Again, they went through many valleys, and flat lands, until they finally reached their home, in South Dakota. They came through the town and went to the farm. They were so glad to see their home.

So they unloaded the horses, put them up in the barn and fed them. Then they all went inside and Gloria started to cook up a meal for everybody.

"It smells good," said Luther Standing Bear.

"Thanks' dad," said Gloria checking on the biscuits.

"Victoria, were Indians," Madison said with excitement.

"I know that sister," smiled Victoria.

"You do?" questioned Madison.

"Yes, I noticed when I got a little older, that I was half white and half Indian, because daddy was a full blood Indian, and mom is white and Indian, because her dad is full blood Indian also and her mom was white," said Victoria.

"Oh I forgot about daddy, is that a bad thing, we don't talk about him anymore," said Madison.

"Silly girl, its not a bad thing, the reason we don't talk about dad is because it will bring back all the hurt and sadness, you can never forget daddy, because he'll always be in our hearts," said Victoria.

Black Elk looked at Victoria and smiled.

"Uncle, I've been practicing knife throwing, I know how to shoot a bow as well," said Victoria.

"That's great, I'm glad you're learning," said Black Elk.

"But she needs to learn to be a lady, instead of being one of the guys, before she was taken, she got in trouble at school," said Gloria.

"She did," said Luther Standing Bear.

"Yes, she picked a fight with a boy," said Gloria.

"Really," said Black Elk.

"Yeah, he was picking on me and another girl, for being half-breeds, he called us apple's, so I punch him in the face, and the fight was on. But the teacher came out and pulled me off him," said Victoria.

"Does that remind you of someone," Luther Standing Bear looking at Black Elk.

"What," smiled Black Elk.

"You were the same way in the village, when the other Indian kids would pick on him because he was lighted skinned, they would call him names, he too fought them, but then as he got older and his skin started to look more like there's, they quit picking on him and finally excepted him," said Luther Standing Bear.

"Well when you go to an all-white school it's kind of hard to get excepted, because my skin is not light it's the same color as uncles and my dads, it's hard to make friends, and my other friend I stood up for her because has the same skin color like mom," said Victoria.

"Well people like that, you just have to keep walking a go on, they were taught to hate, you can't change those people's minds, they were raised that way, they've heard stories, but when they get older, that's when they'll get killed, or thrown in jail," said Luther Standing Bear.

"That's true, they'll become outlaws and be killed," said Victoria.

"Right," said Luther Standing Bear.

Gloria was putting the food on the table and started eating. As they finished it was getting late and time for bed. So they started cleaning up and the younger girls were on their way to their room to put their pajamas on and get ready for bed. Victoria was helping her mother clean up.

"Well we better get going," said Luther Standing Bear.

"What, your leaving?" asked Gloria.

"Yes, we need to go home as well," said Luther Standing Bear.

"But we just got here," saddened Victoria.

"I know, but were just up and over that hill, we don't live to far from you guys, we'll see ya again soon," said Luther Standing Bear.

"Really," said Victoria.

"Yes, we we'll be back soon," said Luther Standing Bear.

"I'll see you later sis, it was good seeing you and your kids," said Black Elk.

"Your welcome, it was good to see you also, don't make it too long in between visits, and that goes for you to dad," smiled Gloria.

"We won't," said Luther Standing Bear.

"It was nice to meet you uncle, I hope to see you again," said Victoria.

"You will see me again, soon," said Black Elk leaving the house.

"Goodbye, we'll see each other again," said Luther Standing Bear.

Gloria and Victoria walked to the door and watched them get on their horses and ride away.

"Momma," said Victoria.

"There'll be back sweet heart, I promise, its just they have a home as well, that they need to get to," said Gloria.

"True," Victoria turned around and headed towards her room to go to sleep.

Gloria finished cleaning the kitchen, she went to her room and went to bed.
