Chapter 5

Author's note: I think I left you with a lot of unanswered questions as to Damien in the previous chapters. So surprise I'm starting off with a brief pov in this chapter but that won't be an occasional thing so don't get used to it.

Pov Damien:

I couldn't help but admire her beauty. I kept taking out my journal and sketching her while she was observing the scenery. Then she asked to see it. I gave it to her without hesitation which was unusual considering I didn't trust anyone not even myself at times. She flipped through the pages and looked at me.

"They're beautiful." She said.

"Well I had the perfect muse. You." I responded her with a small smile.

Then I saw her blush. At this point I  felt like it was time I told her. She was ready.

At least I think she is.

I thought to myself then I opened my mouth. My face now serious.

"I need to tell you something..." I paused having been interrupted by screaming.

Emilia and I ran towards the screaming and the familiar site left me feeling a deep anger.

Not again.

I had seen this before. Multiple times before. It was back and I wasn't going to let it do this. Not this time.

The gore of the dismembered child reminded me of my previous encounter with the beast over 4 decades back.

"Run!!!The beast cometh!!!"

A man yelled as he sprinted to his home and barricaded himself inside. I stood in the middle of the dust road. My sword drawn.

"Everyone get to a safe place!! I will deal with this unholy creature."

I said to everyone as I gripped my sword tightly and the beast came into my line of vision.

It snarled then slowly approached me. I carefully moved towards it. It's fur dark. It's eyes as red as the blood it had spilled. It's teeth sharp enough to rip through solid bone. It was larger than any wolf I had ever seen.

"You die today. You monstrous creature."

I said as I charged toward it with my iron sword and thrust it into the side of the creature. It quickly recovered then attacked and landed on top of me. I used my sword as protection from it's bite.

Then I kicked it off me and charged at the same time as the creature once again this time I pierced it's skull with the sword and left it for dead or so I thought. I turned to back to the village.

"THE BEAST IS DEAD!!!"

I cheered. People began walking from their homes but to their astonishment and my own the beast was gone. It was very much alive. I let it escape.

After having remembered my last encounter with the beast. I began fuming at the site of a dead child. An innocent child. Then Emilia called me and I snapped out of it.

"I have to go. I'll see you at the cabin." I said as I ran off.

I got home and instantly grabbed my sword. My axe and a few daggers. This time I intended to finish the job. Just as I was about to leave my eyes met Emilia who was standing by the door.

"What is happening Damien?"

She asked.

"I need to finish what I started." I said as I walked passed her then I felt her hand on my shoulder.

"Please help me understand." She said.

"I've seen this beast before.I've killed it before or so I thought. I won't let it hurt anyone, not this time."

I said to her unable to look her in the eye. My rage beyond control at the thought of this demonic creature. Then I left for the woods my silver weapons in hand.

Emilia pov:

I watched as he left and his words kept ringing in my head. 'I won't let it hurt anyone, not this time.' This was personal from the sound of it. He had been hunting this creature for a long time by the looks of it.

I pray you do not get harmed Damien.

I closed the door to the cabin after having watched Damien storm off into the forest fuming. His mind set on killing the beast. This meant more to him than I knew. I couldn't stop him but at the same time I was worried.

I began cleaning the entire cabin. To get my mind of the stressful thoughts out of my head. He burst through the door. He was breathing heavily most of his weapons broken but he was unharmed.

How?

"Damien are you okay? Are you hurt?"

I asked him to see if needed nursing. He looked at me then looked down.

"No I'm not hurt and neither is the beast."

I knew this beast was something that was too personal to him so I brought him food in efforts to distract him from everything.

"I made food." I said as I placed the plate of food beside him.

He looked up but I could tell his mind was elsewhere.

"Damien!"

I yelled trying to get his attention.

"I am sorry Emilia. I need to end this. I need to stop this demon before it hurts anyone else."

He said as he went to his room and gathered more weapons. It was now dark out.

"No don't tell me you plan on going out again."

I asked him.

"I have to." He said as he left.

This time I followed him even though I knew it would be dangerous but I also knew it would give me answers. I tracked behind him from a safe distance careful not to make so much as a sound then I heard howling. The moon was out and the night time version of the forest became clearer. The chirping of the crickets seized when the howling began. Then Damien began to run towards the howl. I followed him struggling to keep up with his pace. Then he stopped. From the shadows I saw a golden shade of yellow eyes. I heard growling and I hid behind a tree peaking as best I could then I saw Damien draw his silver sword and get in a fighting stance. The beast leaped forward and Damien sliced it's paw and it winced backwards.

"DIE YOU DEMON!!!"

He yelled in rage as he pushed forward with his attacks. Then he finally drove the sword through the beast and what I saw next shocked me beyond comprehension. All of the beasts black fur began falling of it. It's eyes turned a normal shade of brown and I saw a man.

"OH MY GOD!" I said as I quickly covered my mouth at the sight.

Damien heard me and turned to face my direction.

"What are you doing here?"

He asked. I couldn't master a reply.

"It's not safe." He continued to say.

"It's a man." I said having ignored his earlier statements.

He nodded.

Did he know this entire time?

If so I need answers.
