Waking up to the sound of my alarm and the sun-ray shining on my face, I sat up before proceeding to take a shower.
Getting out I wore an outfit I just recently came up with, usually, I'd be wearing shirts, hoodie, shorts and joggers but they say first impressions counts, right?
Jogging to the kitchen Sarah had cut an apple and had some bananas on the island.
"Here" sliding the plate over to me.
"Thanks." I chirped, putting a smile on, wanting to forget whatever tension made yesterday.
Finishing up I threw the plate away as Sarah was out and ready, wearing her kind of attire, jeans and button-ups.
Getting to the parking area we hopped in a car we rented for the week, but by the end of the week, her car should already be here. I didn't have a car, but I passed my drivers license, it's just there's always someone driving me and also my brothers wouldn't let me drive after I drove a Go-Kart, thinking I'd go crashing into someone. I could still remember their faces as horror was written all over it, and at that very moment I knew well I wouldn't be able to drive ever again.
But it's Go-Kart for goodness sake, where's the fun when you're not repeatedly crashing into someone elses.
Sarah drove us to a coffee shop near our campus. It was the same shop we went to yesterday.
A spectacle curly-haired boy looked up as he felt our presence, he smiled and asked: "Welcome, I'm Carl, what can I get you both?"
"One mint Choco frappe and one vanilla frappe please," I ordered.
Not long our drinks were done and we headed to the campus.
Sarah drove to a path with trees and soon you'll meet a gate with 'MAULANA UNIVERSITY' at the top, we went through and stopped to greet the security at the gate.
"Morning ladies can I see your IDs?" the man wearing an uniform asked and Sarah wiped out both our IDs.
"Alright thank you, you may go in." we drove in and it was kind of like a maze there were trees and buildings there were also signs for the places.
I pointed at a building which had a sign "B-1" which was where I was supposed to be.
She dropped me off and went to find her building. When I entered I was greeted by a girl.
"Hi Welcome, I'm Diana part of the student organisation here, please go to the Main Hall to assemble."
I went to the direction Diana told me. The corridor wall had lots of mini houses, sketches and other designs each had different drawings, paintings, sketches it was cool. Was too caught up in the decorations that I didn't notice where I was walking and bumped into something.
"Wow there." A guy's voice said as he steadied my shoulders. Looking up it was a boy who seems to be a first-year like me, he was Asian I could tell by his features. His hair was a bit too long that it kind of covered his eyes.
"Oops sorry about that." I apologised feeling sheepish.
"No it's OK, the decors are cool, I'm Andrew." He introduced taking his hand out.
"Akira, but call me Akira, I'm in my first year too, and also in architecture." She shook hands, then he pointed to the Main Hall.
"Want to go there together?" he offered and I nodded following him.
The assembly was just a welcome speech from the Head, but there I met Andrew's cousin, Stephanie, she was a first-year in university too, and not long we three got along really well, surprisingly we even had the same schedule.
We went to the homeroom together and the lecturer was an odd one, but I could tell I was an amazing lecturer.
-
The bell rang, it was lunchtime.
"The canteen is pretty far and I am no way in hell going to walk that far. Drew, did you bring your car?" Stephanie asked desperately. But Andre shook his head. Stephanie looked my way and I immediately held my hands up.
"Can't drive." Then suddenly there were some students behind us riding scooters and bikes. There was even our campus logo on it.
Stephanie stopped one of the guys. "Hi sorry to bother but are those campus bikes?" she asked sweetly batting her eyelash. He gulped then nodded she asked for directions to borrow them and we got ourselves bikes by using our IDs.
Sarah POV.
The class was over. I haven't managed to talk to anyone, yeah I'm not used to it. Then I thought back about Akira's words yesterday 'you must make friends, to survive!'. I chuckled, maybe next time.
It was lunchtime and the canteen was just in the next building, I placed my bag in the locker and then began walking outside. I wore my earphones and turned on some music to block the world.
Looking up the weather was perfect, the sun was shining but it was nice and breezy. Humming to the song I looked at the clouds, one looked like pizza, and my stomach started to rumble. 'don't worry tummy we'll get you fed.'
Suddenly I was tapped on my shoulder and out of reflex, I shoved the person with my elbow.
"Arghh" a familiar person groaned. 'Shit' I looked at the guy who was clutching his stomach. And that guy had to be Danial.
"I'm so sorry, it's just that you tapped me and I usually have a reflex when someone does that and if it was Akira she would reflect away but she usually shouts so i- I-" I was expecting shouts or even anger but no, instead he was laughing.
"A-are you ok?" I asked looking at him weirdly, others would get annoyed, except Akira she's just a… well Akira. And this guy here is an odd one.
I asked if he wanted to go to the infirmary, but he denied and shrugged it off. "Do you have asthma? Or any health problems that may get you sick if you run?" I shook my head.
"You're going to get lunch right? Let's go!" Before I could even reply, he pulled me by the hand and ran.
By the time we got to the canteen, I was a sweating mess and I was panting hard, looking up at Danial, he looked fine as if we hadn't been running at all. 'Damn it, I need to exercise more' I groaned.
"You see on the 24th of every month the canteen would always have a special menu and it would always taste good, it's cheap but not everyone can get to buy it." He explained and I noticed the huge crowd demanding for that special menu, I gulped at the sight, there is no way I'm going there. I would rather get a bag of chips from the vending machine.
"Don't I'll get us both the menus." And he disappeared through the crown. 'Yup he's an odd one.' And I thought Akira was weird.
Not long he got out running to me holding two trays in the air. 'That's going to fall'. But it seems like he has a good balance and handed me my tray. He wasn't kidding when he said it always tastes good, you could tell by the smell.
Now we're trying to find empty seats that seemed impossible in this packed place. "SARAH!" a voice called out, I was too familiar with that voice and began walking towards it. There sat Akira and two faces I hadn't met.
"Guys this is Sarah, my roomie, we've known each other since toddlers," Akira explained as I sat next to her. "Eh Danial?" looks like she just noticed him.
"Mind if I eat with you guys?" he asked and Akira nodded.
The two new people were Andrew and his cousin Stephanie, they're in the same year and major. 'I guess I don't need to worry about her making friends'. I'm kidding, Akira is a friend magnet. She's too friendly. I worry sometimes but if she doesn't mind well I don't care.
We ate and chatted, later on, Haykal joined us.
"So what clubs are you all going to join?" Asked Haykal.
"Oh I heard there was this video editing club so I guess I'm joining that," Andrew replied
"I'm taking basketball," I said munching on some fries.
"Basket?" asked Danial, unsure.
"What do you think because of my height I can't play basketball, the only thing I can't do is a dunk," I said mumbling the last part to myself.
"She's our school captain" Sarah spoke as she scrolled through her phone.
"You are?! Wow for judging you, I shouldn't have done that." I shrugged him off, I was aware of my height, I stood at 158. And I'm used to those judgment looks.
But the thing I love, those priceless faces of other captains when I shake their hand in victory.
"I'm taking modelling." Said Stephanie as she sipped her drink.
"So am I!" exclaimed Haykal.
"How about you Sarah?" Danial asked.
Sarah looked up from her phone as she heard her name being called. "um- I guess acoustic."
"But you already know how to play the guitar, right." Spoke Danial.
She shrugged. "Doesn't matter" then she went back to her phone.
Danial looked at her as if he's studying her then went to say "I guess I'm taking acoustic again like last year. And also Animal helpers."
The bell went, there was an announcement through the speakers.
"Hello to all college students, today I will be announcing that the field is finally open for club sign-ups. For this week we will have a class-free day for tryouts. And you must participate in at least one club. If not the consequences are that we will have to get you to join one of the clubs with empty slots at the end, and you will get a low grade for club activities which will affect your report cards. Well, that's it, enjoy the rest of today."
