Part 12: Church of Mammon
A few days later, the group arrives in Salt Lake City, Utah in the morning, where they find themselves in front of a church that appears to look like a castle with a huge bell in the top and all of it appear to be made of gold and iron. With multicolored windows with a huge fountain that has a statue depicting a husky man sitting on a throne made of coins and other treasures.
Jake stretches his arms "Ah I'm tired but how are we doing this? I'll jump through the window and catch them by surprise."
Jaden smiles "I'll be right behind you! Let's do it!"
Evie sighs "Enough playing around boys, we're here to investigate the church and see if they have any clues about the Sigil of Greed."
Leslie looks at the statue "I mean yeah, they should be considering it seems to be represented around wealth in the first place."
The bell rings loudly across the sky as people start to enter the church, the group notices that they are carrying a book called 'Mammon' as they enter the church. Opening the door appears to be a young man wearing a white and grey suit,with gold rings, and a gold necklace around his neck. He opens the door and helps everyone inside. "Good morning my fellow worshipers! Welcome to another day of riches!"
Xander looks at the man "I guess we found our place...this seems a little too easy you know?" Saying that him and the rest of the group walks inside the church.
Jake is stopped by the man which surprises Jake "He's strong…" he thinks to himself.
The man looks at Jake up and down. "You remind me of something, have you been here before?"
Jake grabs his arm and tries to move it but it doesn't budge "What the hell?!" He thinks to himself. He looks the man in his eyes "No
I'm new here."
The man lets go and smiles at the group "Welcome to the original Church of Mammon! I'm your High Priest Giovanno. Please…" he motions in front of him "Come in and take a seat, the sermon is about to start."
Everyone takes their seats waiting patiently for it to begin as the room darkens until a spotlight is shown above Giovanno as he stares into the crowd with his arms wide open "Welcome again Children of Mammon as another day we reach our goals for wealth and prosperity! Today is quite a wonderful day as we have some new people joining us today! Some agents from The Federal Authority of The SuperNatural!~"
Another spotlight is shown on the group as everyone is looking at them smiling and clapping their hands. "Welcome! Welcome!" The group hears throughout the crowd.
Giovanno clears his throat and instantly everything goes quiet, not a single word is heard. It gave a really eerie throughout the church as only the footsteps of Giovanno walking on stage were heard.
Giovanno just looks at the group once again and smiles "Thank you for welcoming them here to our church, especially on such a wondrous day..Today we are going to be giving our Lord and Savior Mammon something in return for everything he has given us. Does everyone know what we are giving him? "
A Lot of people raise their hands into the air eager to get chosen. Giovanno looks around with his finger on his chin wondering who he is going to choose, watching people start to get up from their seats jumping to get chosen.
Jake looks around with an uncomfortable look on his face "This is really disturbing it's like they are children around this guy…"
"Yeah..they seem to worship him more than they worship Mammon…" Xander says, watching intensely "What is this guy's deal?"
Giovanno points into the crowd as a spotlight hits a random woman as she smiles with gleeful yet crazed eyes. "Yes High Priest Giovanno! We are giving him more riches?!"
Giovanno frowns at the woman's answer "Incorrect ma'am.."
The woman screams loudly as she starts crying and people around her are either shaking their heads or frowning "Pathetic" they hear from the crowd of people as the woman is dragged out of the church.
Evie looks in shock "What the…" see watches the woman get dragged off as she screams in the distance.
Jake stands up clenching his fist, until Evie grabs his arm stopping him from moving "Wait..not just yet." she says watching Giovanno "He's testing us."
Giovanno looks at Jake and smiles "To the new people here i would like to humbly apologize for what happened, as you can see..people tend to get really emotional here so we had to remove her for her to 'calm' down."
The crowd looks at Jake watching his every movement. "They seem to be under some sort of trance..like their minds can only think of one thing." Jake thinks to himself watching everyone stare at him.
"Now!" Giovanno says clapping his hands "What we really have here today is a sacrifice, but not riches or treasures but something more organic.."
Jake's eyes widen as Giovanno gestures his hands off stage as a little girl with ashy black skin, white hair , and earthly green eyes is dragged by a chain on stage. Jake notices that this is a Drow, a creature born with dark and unstable magick, the Drow looks out into the stage with tear filled eyes scared and confused. "This is our sacrifice!" Giovanno says, smirking evilly.
Jake's eyes light up as in a flash he appears in front of the girl shocking everyone. The Drow backs up in fear murmuring and quivering at the sight of Jake. He gets on one knee smiling at the Drow girl. "Hey..it's okay..i'm not going to hurt you.." He takes his jacket off and covers the drow girl with it.
Giovanno and the crowd gasps in horror and disgust watching him cover the drow.
"An agent protecting a monster?! I've never seen anything like it!" Giovanno says and the crowd screams in agreement "You are messing with our practice!" "Our religion!"
Evie looks at Jake "He's..protecting that drow…"
Xander looks in shock "I've never seen an agent actually protect a monster before what the hell is he doing?!"
Jake stands up holding the Drow girl "You can practice anything you want...I don't care..but when you bring someone else into it in order to hurt them." He looks at Giovanno "That's when I draw the line! Giovanno! We're taking you in!"
