Chap 6

"Calm down, at least you won." Samantha said laughing at me.

We were sitting in our normal spot near the entrance of the Viridian Forest. I was trying to calm down after an annoyingly close battle. I had caught a Weedle the day before. Since, I wanted it to become a Beedrill as soon as possible, I decided that each day, I would train it against any Pokémon that attacked me until it fainted. It was going well at first. I was attacked by a Metapod that, for some reason, could only make its skin harder. I was attacked by two Kakuna in a row following that. They had the same problem.

It was the Pidgey that attacked me next that caused me problems. Apparently bug type Pokémon struggle against flying types, who could've known that.

"Only because that Pidgey was poisoned so badly." I responded just before a white light started streaming from my backpack.

"What the hell is that" Samantha said and took several steps away from me.

I sat the bag down cautiously and opened it. The light was coming from the cracks, that now completely covered, the egg. We both watched in awe as the light continued to intensify. When it finally died down a Pokémon was standing where the egg used to be.

The Pokémon looked like a kitten. It had large green eyes and metallic jet-black fur. It stood on all fours and had a tail. The strangest thing about it was that it had two heads.

"I have no idea" I said with my palms turned up.

I sat down and held out my right hand in front of it. After sniffing my hand a few times, it started nuzzling against my hand and purring. It was strange hearing the two heads purr out of sync with each other. I picked the kitten up once I knew it wasn't going to attack me. Its fur was soft, even though it looked like thousands of tiny black needles.

"That is totally the Pokémon Team Rocket is after. We gotta go." Samantha said.

"Go where, they're gonna find me anywhere I go. I may as well just stay here and fight them." I said feeling defeated already.

"I never said you. I said we. As in the two of us. We have no idea what that Pokémon is, or what it can do, and there's only one scientist in the world I trust enough to help us figure it out." She said.

"And who would that be?" I asked cautiously.

"My mom, she works out of her house in Saffron City. If we can make it to her, she can definitely help us."

That if hit me like a charging Tauros. It underscored just how dangerous our journey would be. There wouldn't be any fame or fanfare for us, we would most likely end up dead wherever Team Rocket finally caught up to us. I looked at the kitten again. It had fallen asleep in my hand. How could something so small and fragile be so precious to them? Why was human life something they were willing to cast aside like it was meaningless?

"What are you thinking about?" Samantha asked me.

"I was just thinking that if we do get caught, I'm not sure what's gonna happen." I said hoping she would reassure me.

"Oh, they're definitely gonna kill us" She said too happily as we walked out of the forest.

We didn't waste any time back at the academy. We quickly gathered what little we had and slipped away before anyone could ask any questions. We were back in the forest within 20 minutes of the egg hatching.

"Okay I've never gone deep in this forest before. I've been told it's mazelike. That's why I always stay close to the exit." Samantha warned as we walked into the thicket of green.

The forest lived up to its reputation faster than I thought it would. There were dead ends everywhere we turned. We spent hours walking in circles trying to figure out what trees we'd already seen. It didn't bother me though. Samantha and I took turns battling any wild Pokémon that attacked us. I made it a point not to use the kitten. I didn't know what he could do or how much of a beating he could take. I really didn't like the idea of getting the poor thing knocked around just to see what it was made of.

As we wandered, we did run into a few young trainers. They didn't really present us with any real challenges. There were four of them in total the first three only used bug types. I let Pidgey easily handle them.

Samantha tried to handle the fourth guy, but he had a surprise that neither of us saw coming. His Pokémon was a round, blue creature with two long antennae coming out of its head. The antennae ended in yellow bulbs. Its eyes looked like yellow X's. it had two feet and a small pair of fins as well.

"That's a water type, will Larvitar be able it?" I whispered to Samantha.

"It looks like an electric type to me. I think I'll be fine." She said with her eyes narrowed.

The fight was even shorter than I was afraid it would be. Samantha went first. She told Larvitar to use rock throw. As Larvitar went into his leap the other trainer struck.

"Now Chinchou use water gun" He yelled.

The Pokémon shot a thin, continuous stream of water at Larvitar. It hit it directly in the face. Larvitar was knocked head over heels and landed directly on its back. Samantha didn't wait for Larvitar to try and get back up before recalling it. We all knew the fight was over.

"Okay you beat me." Samantha said and offered a handshake.

"Of course, I did only an idiot would use that Pokémon against mine." He said and laughed. As he pushed past us.

Samantha didn't say a word, but her tightly clenched fists and jaw let me know she wanted to hurt him.

"Hey clown" I called after him.

He stopped walking and turned around.

"Are you talking to me?"

"No, I'm talking to your mom for creating something like you." I said.

I wasn't sure if I wanted to challenge him to a battle or just hit him. Either way it went though, he wasn't just walking away after insulting Samantha.

"You need to apologize to my friend, like right now" I said clenching my own fists.

"Or else what little boy" The guy asked and stepped face to face with me.

It was more like face to neck. He was quite a bit taller than me.

"Then we're gonna kick the crap outta you" Samantha said stepping next to me.

"I'm not fighting you two idiots. If you really wanna prove to your little girlfriend how tough you are then beat me in a battle." He said and smirked.

I still wanted to hit him, but instead I took a deep breath and accepted his challenge.

"Not so fast kid. I said I would battle you, I never told you it was a free battle. Since you made this personal, after you lose I want every Pokémon that my Chinchou Ko's." He said still grinning.

"Let's just walk away, your Pokémon aren't even a match for my Larvitar. You can't win this battle." Samantha said.

She was right. Every time we sparred, she beat me easily, but I needed him to hurt for what he said to her.

"I can't let it slide." I said.

"So, you agree then?" the guy asked. The greed visible in his eyes.

"Yeah, I'm in, but if I win that Chinchou goes to my friend." I said.

"As if you stand a chance, deal." he said as we shook hands.

Samantha shook her head and backed away from me. I went with my safety net first.

"Lets go Pidgey" I said and tossed the ball.

I knew the Chinchou was a water type and as far as I remembered water didn't have any major advantage over flying. So, this battle would come down to who the strongest Pokémon was overall.

"Chinchou lets end this kid dreams now so he can give up and continue being a nothing like everyone else he cares about" he said and threw out his ball.

I wasn't in a sporting mood anymore. I wanted to win and shut this guy up by any means necessary.

"Go Pidgey peck his face off" I said as soon as Chinchou appeared.

To my surprise the trainer didn't seem to care about me blitzing him like that. As pidgey closed in for its attack he showed me why.

"Now Chinchou use electro ball" He commanded.

"I knew that thing was an electric type" Samantha called from behind me.

Electric currents from both antennae began gathering into a ball in front of the Chichou's face. The timing was perfect, he didn't have to do anything with the ball. Pidgey's own momentum pushed it into it. When Pidgey hit the ball there was a loud crackling sound that was followed by an explosion. Pidgey's smoking body was blown back toward me. I recalled it before it hit the ground.

"That's one. Got anymore for me. The guy said rubbing his hands together.

"This isn't over yet" I said and sent out Weedle.

Weedle stood even less of a chance than pidgey did. He wasn't as strong as Pidgey and he wasn't at full health, but it was either use him or throw my kitten out there and let it get smacked around.

"Chinchou light this one up too" The trainer said and pointed to Weedle.

Weedle was already breathing heavily when I called it out. There was nothing it could do except take the electro ball attack and faint afterward.

I was out of options, I had to play the kitten and chance it, or just accept defeat.

"You're not thinking about doing what I think you are?" Samantha said and gripped the strap of my backpack.

I turned around to face her.

"it's a win win, if he beats me and takes it Team Rock will simply target him from now on. If I win though, then I won." I whispered and turned back around.

"So, I'm guessing there's an even weaker Pokémon your saving for last. Well let's get this over with. I have to get started if I'm gonna make these weaklings I get from you worth anything." He said.

I threw out the kitten after taking a deep breath. My heart pounded as Chinchou stared it down. The trainer broke into a loud, cocky laugh.

"What in the world is that thing?" he said while laughing so hard he couldn't stand up straight.

"Whatever, he's gonna make you cry pretty soon." I bluffed.

"Oh, is he? Chinchou electrify that thing so we can be done please."

The Chinchou fired the same electro ball at the kitten. Just before the ball connected. The kitten's right head moved. I thought it yawned but it created some kind force field around itself. The electro ball hit it and vanished. When the attack landed something else happened as well. A yellow glow flashed in the kittens' eyes and then it shivered as its fur turned green. It looked up at me with what looked like a smile on its face after that.

"Umm attack it back" I said unsure of what to say.

The trainer started to give his Pokémon a command, but the kitten appeared in front of the Chinchou before he had the chance. He moved so fast none of us saw it happen. He just disappeared from one spot and reappeared in another. We all watched with wide eyes as the kitten swiped at the Chinchou with its claws extended. A green wave of energy slammed into Chinchou. The impact sent it rolling backward away from the kitten. When it finally stopped it was on its back with its antennae limply lying in the grass. It was clearly not getting back up.

"What…. How?" Was all the trainer could manage to say.

I didn't have a clue what I had just seen either, so I just stared at the kitten with my mouth hanging open.

"It's over." Samantha whispered to the trainer with a hand on his shoulder.

He snatched away from her.

"You hustled me!" he yelled at me.

The kitten arched its back and both of its heads hissed loudly. Its fur becoming the color of a wildfire. The trainer threw up his hands in surrender and lowered his voice.

"I don't want any trouble" He said softly before he recalled Chinchou and tossed me the ball.

He carefully inched past the kitten and I. when he was clear of us, he took off running and crying. I recalled the kitten after giving it a good petting.

"That was awesome" Samantha said and hugged me tightly.

I was about to speak when her fist slammed into my stomach. I dropped to my knees gagging and gasping for air.

"That's for thinking I needed you to fight my battles.

She kneeled down and kissed me on the cheek.

"That's for being enough of a friend to do so. Now come on I found the exit." She said and walked ahead of me.

note

I am looking for a good name for the new Pokémon. If anyone reading this wants to offer some choices that would be awesome. The choice i like best will be chosen as the name and revealed in the next chapter. Thank you for reading and I hope to hear from you.
