04 ~ To be Human

When they all awoke the house came alive again, only Irina remained in the house with the child, she was talking to the child as he laid in the crib and reached for the bars of its walls. He was listening to her but had yet to fully figure out what she was saying to him.

He was unable to view their thoughts as he did before, currently the most he could do was see in the dark by emitting waves of light from his eyes, that the couple were still unable to see. The view, however, in his case it wasn't very much, Irina and Damir didn't have a lot in their bedroom besides the fireplace that would go out slowly at night, there was only their bed and his crib.

Board he would lay on his back and try to get up using the bars, and move how the two of them did. Alas he was far too weak to even do this, he remembered watching other children grow, that he would soon achieve the ability to walk for himself. But until then he would have to rely on Irina completely to quell the now-known feelings of hunger and release these products afterwards, like all the rest of them did on their own when they got bigger.

Each day passed rather quickly, being able to do nothing for eight days until his mother Irina picked him up and brought him out to see the animals as they called them. He saw Damir racing around frantically as since Irina was unable to help him he had to do everything himself for the time being.

Irina pointed to Damir and waved, "Wave for your papa Jason." not expecting any response, she was about to keep walking to the barn, but the child figuring out his name was Jason, raised his hand and slowly waved to Damir.

Both surprised for a moment, breaking the silence Damir laughed a bit, and called out from the field, "Our boys tougher than we thought! Say Irina, you don't have to be so worried about him, he gave us a scare there but look at him!"

Running over Damir gave Jason a peck on the forehead, then carefully wrapped his arms around Irina and Jason.

"It's nice to see you out and about too my dear, you've been quite weak, it honestly started worrying me a bit. I thought I'd have to go call that doctor over from town."

"I wasn't toughing it out or anything, believe me this boy gave me hell, no one ever told me birthing a kid was so painful. Then he goes and gives us the scare of a lifetime, after we cut him free, he has the audacity to go start fading out on us. You expect me to move at all after a scare like that? But don't go thinking this means I'm gonna start helping out again."

Jason was paying attention to the parts of their conversation he could piece together what they said with what he remembered. According to Irina, once he was out and his mother was recovering his heart rate got really weak unable to feel it anymore Damir started panicking, and cursing that the doctor wasn't close enough to go and fetch within a reasonable period of time.

However, they both felt luck was on their side because once his breathing stopped they thought they had lost him. Even so, after a moment of extreme panic from the two, his heart beat came back more powerful than before and with that his breathing too.

Relieved, the two had put him down in the crib once they were sure he was fine, but later he opened his eyes and looked at them, interrupting Damir's comical attempts at helping Irina with whatever she needed, this lead to him filling in all he didn't already know about that night.

Once the two were done, Damir took Jason in his arms and showed him all around their farm, he called many of the animals by name. Jason found it comical the amount of love his father showed these animals despite what they did with them later on once they weren't in his hands anymore.

Not knowing his son was taking note of his duality, chalking it up to him just being active and giggly at seeing the animals. Damir showed him around, happily, with a visible jump even to each of his steps as he did.

Alas, play time was over for the two when Damir tried to take Jason up on the back of their hoarse Odin for a stroll around the farm before sunset. Irina came out yelling at him to get down, saying he needed to be more careful with him since he was only a week old.

Damir, acknowledging that he just got a little too excited, handed him off to Irina and she brought him in to be fed.

After he had his fill for the night, Damir came back in and the two sat and ate for themselves, thinking Jason to be fast asleep. However, he was far from resting, attempting to pull himself up everyday had yet to pay off but he was determined to be able to ride Odin with his father for some reason.

The feeling of going around outside with his parents ingrained deep inside his mind, the feeling was drastically different from before, he could feel the air, touch the things around him and he was in absolute wonder over the whole thing.

Sadly he was still far too young to do what he wanted, eventually falling asleep. The weeks passed very easily like this, his parents were rather confused though having heard and seen children were supposed to be a handful to take care of in their first years.

Jason was far from this, he would only cry out when his mother forgot to feed him, or didn't do so at normal times.

Yet if anything Jason was slightly more muscular than what they knew a child to be. Not very panicked but still concerned, they had the town doctor make the journey over for him to check on their child.

Yet on his arrival and checkup of Jason, who was endlessly confused as he was tossed and turned by a stranger. The man who went by the name Alec was equally confused as well at first, but that eventually faded into fascination. Turning around quickly to face the couple he exclaimed, "He's far healthier physically than almost any child I've seen at this age, I must say whatever you're doing right now to care for him is working fantastically!"

Damir and Irina looked at each other with even more confusion till Irina spoke up, "That's the part we don't know, we don't do much for him he rarely cries let alone makes a sound"

"I suppose the unique thing about him is the amount of muscle he has on his body, which is higher than most and he is a lot heavier than most his age because of this. Are you by chance holding him up and trying to get him to stand on his own?"

Damir pipped in now, "No, we've been extremely careful, we almost lost him the night he was born, his heart stopped and then suddenly started beating again out of the blue. We've been extra careful like I said, we've not done anything out of the norm, or anything to push him."

Thinking for a moment Alec brushed his hair past his glasses then continued,

"I don't have any factual knowledge backing this but it could always be possible that your son could be struggling around at night to try and get over to you two. The crib is rather far from the bed, I assume this is to help keep him warm at night?"

Damir spoke up again this time,

"Yes, that would make sense, but wouldn't he call out to us if that were the case he's just a baby, Irina and I would wake up and hear him?"

"Aye, but as you said for some reason he doesn't seem to be crying at all that much as unusual as it is, it's not necessarily a bad thing, you might just be great parents. There's nothing I can really do about it at this point if anything changes do send word to me, but until then I must be going have a good night now Mr. and Mrs. Tesla"

Throughout this whole conversation Jason's mind has been elsewhere for bits and pieces completely missing the last piece, which would have confused him why Alec had addressed them as such.

He got the gist of their conversation though it while thinking to himself,

'They're worried I'm not acting enough like a child my age, I suppose that makes sense, I'm truly really not one after all either. Had I known I'd been in this situation I might have paid more attention to the automatic behaviors of children towards their parents. Their perception must be rather accurate since I tried my best to replicate it all. Oh well guess I'll have to try harder.'

'My efforts are paying off though I can finally pull my body up, though the legs are another story, I still can't even stand like the rest of them. From what I've seen it takes what they call a year for children to walk, I really don't want to wait that long, however long that is...'
