Chapter 17

I woke up to loud banging on my balcony doors. Emma was at the doors before I could even blink.

"Who is it, Em?" I was so scared. I hate loud noises. In the matter of a second, she flung the door open and flung a body to the ground. The only thing I could fully see was the silhouettes of Emma and this stranger.

"Hector? What are you doing here? I thought you were dead?" Her voice was getting louder with each word. Wait, did she just say dead? I immediately flipped on the bedside lamp.

"Emma, who is this? Why did you think he was dead? And Oh my God, why do you have only one arm?" I exclaimed. Now my voice was rising as I was becoming more and more freaked out. She looked up at me then back down to the one-armed man on my floor that I now know is named Hector.

"Umm… I'll explain everything in a moment." She gave a nervous chuckle then gave Hector a pointed look.

"What the hell is going on, Hector?" She said, more pissed off than anything.

"Listen, I barely made it out alive. They all came out of nowhere; there were four of them. They were in fucking cloaks, man. I only saw one of their faces. It was a woman, gorgeous too. Like really hot." Emma cut him off.

"Damn it, Hector Focus." She snapped her fingers in front of his face.

"Right, there were four of them, and I only saw the chick. Well, she told me to give you a message, right before she incinerated my arm." I chimed in at this moment.

"And what did she have to say, hmm?" I'm not standing with my arms crossed, and I can only imagine the pissy look on my face. He then looked at me with wide-eyes like he just now noticed me.

"Damn, Emma. That's your mate?" He looks back at me. "You. Are. Gorgeous." I heard a low growl coming from Emma.

"Hector, I'll finish what they started. Now, what was this message?" When Emma first started talking, she was gritting every word through her teeth, but she was just shaking her head by the end.

"Sorry, Em. I'm just overwhelmed. It's been a crazy last two days. She said, "We will break down the barrier between Alium and this world, and take our rightful place as the new supremacy. All will submit willingly or by force. We are Kalayavana, fear us, expect us." But Em, that's not all…" I gasped. These people sound scary.

"I'm afraid to ask what she said next," I spoke my thoughts aloud. Hector looked at me then back at Emma.

"She said to tell you that you're just as beautiful as the last time she saw you. She said that she knows you won't want to give up, so she can't wait to catch back up with you and make you her pet once she takes her place as the Highest Supreme." Okay, now I'm pissed.

"I'll kill the bitch myself. She's not touching Emma." Both of them snapped their heads up to me with their mouths slightly open. They made eye contact with each other and burst out laughing.

"Oh, she's hilarious, Em." Emma was nodding her head, trying to get her laughter under control; meanwhile, my temper was rising exponentially. Emma seemed to have finally felt the anger rolling off of me in waves because she sobered up real quick.

"I'm sorry, love. Hector, we are going to discuss this further tomorrow with everyone. I'm going to inform the council now. I'll escort you home myself." He shook his head.

"Don't worry about it, Em. I already called Lance; he should be here soon. He's going to take me to my Aunt Carol's house." Emma nodded.

"Okay, Hector, I'll walk you to the door, at least. I'm glad you're alive. Sorry about slamming you off the ground, though." She helped him off the floor, and they started making their way to go out of my room.

"It's nice to meet you finally. Sorry, it wasn't under better circumstances. I can't wait to get to know you more; you're already living up to Emma's words." He grabbed my hand and kissed the back of it. I heard a loud smack as Emma had smacked the back of his head. He let out a painful groan, and I was trying to keep in a laugh.

"I'll take your other arm, Hector, stop playing. I love you, babe, I'll be back in a second." I nodded my head.

"When you get back, you're telling me everything. Don't think I forgot you said you thought he was dead." She looked at me with a scared expression.

"Ooh, you are in trouble." This earned Hector another smack to the back of the head.

"Of course, my love. I'll talk to you when I get back."

Emma's POV:

I am so screwed. We made it outside as Lance was pulling into the driveway.

"Make sure to check him out before you go back home tonight, Lance." He nodded his head.

"Already planned on it, Sis. I already called the council. I'll see you tomorrow." I nodded, acknowledging his statement.

"Yeah, okay. Hector, try not to lose your other arm. Bye, guys." With that, they drove off, and I went back inside. This should be interesting, talking to Emma. Once I got up there, she was already sitting on the bed, with her back straight, waiting patiently for me to start explaining.

"Hey, babe." She just clicked her tongue.

"Don't "Hey, babe" me. Start explaining." Yep, I'm screwed.

"Well, I didn't want to worry you. You're already worried about your day; I didn't want you to add this to your plate." She waved her hand at that, telling me to stop talking.

"Nuh, uh. Stop. We are mates; we are a team. It's not you; It's not me, It's us. We face shit together. From here on out, we are going to be completely transparent. Do you understand me?" I nodded my head, not looking at her. I heard her get up, and she moved my face up to where our eyes met.

"Do you understand me? We're in this together." She spoke in a soft voice. Completely opposite of the stern voice she just had. Her brown eyes had softened and are a lighter shade now. I cupped her cheek with my right hand and brushed across it with my thumb.

"Okay, my love. I'm sorry. I'll be fully transparent." I gave her a soft kiss, pouring every ounce of love I felt for this woman into it.

"I love you, Mila." She fluttered her eyes open and looked up at me.

"I love you too, Emma. Can we please go back to sleep now? I'm so exhausted." I didn't respond; I just picked her up and rushed us into bed. I had the light turned off and us under the covers, snuggling in the blink of an eye. She let out the cutest fit of giggles as she snuggled further into me. Before I fell asleep, the last thought on my mind was how lucky I was to have been blessed with Mila.
