Chapter 4: The Explanation

Slavica might have sensed the coldness wrapping around her sincerity and care but she can't let her just yet. She was about to get away from Gwen's side when a hand took a grip followed by a pull. Gladly, Slavica immediately covered her scarred face when Gwen pulled to make her face her.

"Slavica, even though countless dreams kept haunting me, I'll stare back at it whenever it is necessary and I won't back down from it. So, why won't you let me see them?" Gwen sounded frank as a sharp knife pierced over Slavica's heart but along with her straightforwardness, there was care engulfed with it. That's one of her reasons why Slavica couldn't hurt her.

"She always has her kind heart like she always does." Slavica muttered under her breath as she took her mask over the side table of the bed and wore it so Gwen won't be able to see them just yet.

Slavica managed to easily cover her face once again with her black mask with a red crack designed over its right side before she turned fully and meet Gwen's disappointed face.

"Sorry, but I can't let you see things about me without letting you know something that will change your life after the incident that happened to you." Slavica sincerely spoke and Gwen crossed her arms and not looking straight into her eyes anymore.

"Even without saying anything about it, I already heard the conversation the four of you shared." Gwen muttered as her eyes looked over her numb legs. It saddens Slavica but she has to hide it which was a good thing that one of her teammates spoke and caught Gwen's attention.

"And what can you say? Can you leave everything that you used to be and change for something you know that you could be?" Gwen heard another familiar voice that was coming from the lady that was standing by the window. She looked familiar to her like they have seen each other before.

"I'm Irina Young. I'm the wife of the doctor who operates on you earlier, his name is Jeo Young." Irina introduced herself as she noticed the curious and familiar look on Gwen's face.

"Dr. Young. Yes, I remember him that's why you looked familiar to me." Gwen smiled as she recalled her few consultations regarding about her sleepless hours because of her work.

"So, what can you say regarding what you've heard from us?" Irina asked Gwen once again as she tried to read the heated steam that was still coming out from Gwen's body.

"Nothing, since not everything was clear. Why do I have to be dead when I am alive? And what change I'll be facing to force me to hide?" Gwen answered but asked twice in a row which made them quiet for the time being but Slavica took the liberty to say something first before answering her completely.

"You guys go on your way and report things to the headquarters; I'll handle this matter personally." Slavica commanded her team which made Yui whine.

"Understood, boss." Tacker agreed and was about to open the door when Yui kept whining.

"What? We didn't get any chance to introduce ourselves." Yui whined to their leader with her pouting which Slavica was already used to it.

"You'll have time soon. Go." She only answered and usher them to leave.

"Fine." Yui turned her heels and stomped her feet like a mad kid doing her tantrums.

"Detail later, boss." Tacker winked at their boss as he followed his mate out of the said room.

"Irina, you know what to do to them and your husband says hi." Slavica sighs heavily from having such teammates like them.

"Noted." Irina was the only one who could she talk with like an adult because she was a married woman and had a family that she could run to.

When her teammates were all gone, Slavica turned to meet Gwen who was still not looking at her in silence. She was sad because she loved to meet those eyes fixed only on her but she couldn't ask for that, not even plead for it. She released a sigh before answering her questions in a row.

"The reason you have to change your status or your identity was that you'll be no longer who you are, a human." Slavica was being careful when she informed Gwen of the sudden changes that will happen in her life.

"What do you mean?" Gwen curiously wondered what she meant about her not being a human.

"There was something inside of you that keep you not human after the incident in the orphanage. No human would have survived that fall." She started off there which made Gwen curious about what happened to her before she woke up in the hospital bed with strangers like Slavica.

Gwen already felt something around not just Slavica but as well to her team. But there was something in Slavica that pulled her closer to her. She knew to herself that she was not gay or attracted to anyone particularly because she was just focusing on her work until Slavica happened. She found herself kept looking at Slavica's way in some manner that she couldn't put a name for.

"About that…can you tell me what happened when I fall down? All I could remember back there was I am numb and when I tried to call for some help, nobody did till you came." Gwen wanted to know what happened to her at the perimeter of the orphanage. Trying to hide the fact that Slavica starting to have a pull around her.

"Alright, the case was that you flown out from the second floor of the orphanage was something no human would survive. Due to the impact of the explosion, you should just fall out of the window and not be flown out for five hundred meters away from the orphanage's second-floor window. You even landed in the woods which explained that nobody could see you if I and my team didn't come to rescue you around the orphanage's perimeter." Slavica started on clearing to Gewn what just happened to her but at the same time, she left some other detail while waiting for Gwen's reaction.

"That's something." Gwen just nodded as if she could understand fully what she just went through but deep inside she found it odd and bothersome.

"Indeed. Also, the energy that was radiating around you cause the fire and burned the entire orphanage. Don't worry no one was harmed during the fire if that's what you're thinking now." Slavica continued which made Gwen only nod and smiled in relief at that news.

"That's good to hear but how did I do that? I don't recall manipulating the fire before…" but even though she was glad about the orphanage, she still wondered how she could release such fire when couldn't remember possessing such a gift when she was young.

"It's not about manipulating the fire but something triggers it." Slavica cleared which still left some puzzles in her mind.

"Then what?" she was curious about it.

"You said before that you've been haunted by nightmares…" Slavica tried to make sense by mentioning what Gwen told her a while ago. She used it as she thought it might connect the dots for Gwen to easily understood what just happened.

"What about them?" Gwen wondered about the connection of her dreams to what caused the fire that she never had the slightest thought of having.

"Trigger. It just happened to trigger the powerful energy resting inside of you without your knowing about it." She simply answered which still puzzled her mind.

"When you were still a kid, did you have any recollection about something you can't explain, or just out of the blue it appeared before you?" Slavica noticed the puzzled reaction from Gwen and sighed then changed the question.

Changing the question was the right move that Slavica asked since Gwen went into deep thought regarding that matter. She was starting to recall something from her past.

"Hmm…not that I could remember…wait! There's one." Gwen thought till she recalled the weird burn over her wrist.

"What was it?" she asked about it as she took a closer look over Gwen's wrist. Gwen suddenly felt some rush of heat passing throughout her body but then, quickly ignored it and just focused on the discussion that they were having instead.

"This thing happened. I was in the kitchen one time in my apartment when I spill some hot coffee over here then at night, it turned into this mark. I just ignored it but ever since I heard about my parents' death and went to the funeral, I think it was also the start that I'm having those nightmares." Gwen explained how she got it before her adoptive parents died in an accident.

"Triquetra. Magic." Slavica only managed to say to Gwen who was taken back to what she just heard from her.

She didn't believe it at first but the more she thought about it; from the fire, from her fall, and the recent status of her well-being, she should be in a coma or dead to be precise.

"Fuck." Gwen cursed about what she realized on her own after what she heard from Slavica. Then she started to notice something She knew it wasn't just the case why they stayed with her which made her grab the hand Slavica that she could reach but still didn't look at her.

Slavica didn't say anything when Gwen took hold of her hand that was near her. She could tell that Gwen was thinking of something that she wanted to ask but couldn't figure out what the right one to ask was. Slavica smiled through her mind when she saw how deeply Gwen could think and made her cut the chase for her.

"Whatever you wanted to hear from me, I will answer them as much as it's necessary for you to know them at the moment. But once that I do, you could say a word from anyone about it, do you understand?" Slavica break Gwen's deep thinking and just carefully informed her that she could give her honest answers to whatever she wanted to be answered.

"Alright. I think it's time for you to tell me, who are you and why you stayed?" Gwen released a sigh as she dropped what she really wants to know from Slavica.

"It's our job." Slavica answered but she could tell that Gwen really wanted to know more about them and her.

"Explain." Gwen firmly told Slavica who took a second to stare before giving one nod.

"Okay, Gwen. For starters, do you believe in supernatural entities lurking around us or myths?" Slavica asked first before she jumped on telling her anything about their group.

"I respect others' beliefs. I was taught that way." Gwen honestly answered which made Slavica smile though it can't be seen since she was already wearing her mask.

"But to you, do you believe about their existence?" she still asked Gwen's thought about it.

"Not sure but if I looked at what happened to me, I could say I could believe in their existence. It was like I'm blessed by something that's why I am alive." Gwen answered based on what happened to her. She already believed in it after she realized that something was indeed protecting her that she couldn't put any word about it just yet.

"Yes, you're blessed but to control that, that's our job. We could help you control them till you could walk around freely but the return favor was to work with us and leave the life you used to know. You will work in the shadows to protect those innocent people, like those people in the orphanage." Slavica straightly informed what their group had been doing around the town.

"Okay, let me get this straight, you're an underground organization that keeping the people safe from those entities you were saying to me." Gwen simply guessed according to how she understood what Slavica what just informed her.

"Correct." She nodded while she carefully tried to read Gwen's way of thinking but they were totally blurred and too many things running in her mind all at the same time. Slavica found it interesting since she never heard of anyone who possessed such a million thoughts running inside their mind - just hers.

"And now I am blessed with those entities which I have to control and working with your organization could help me with it along the way, right?" she went on telling Slavica how she understand the information that she shared with her. Slavica nodded to clarify it.

"Yet, I have to sell the old life that I had just to be able to control it…can I just do both?" Gwen ended her guessed as she still wondered if she could have both.

"Can you do both? Can you be tied your tongue and never speak that you have this power since none the people believe in that kind of thing? Also, can you bear those people closest to your heart would be in danger while you're around them?" Slavica was intrigued by what Gwen she told her there and made her ask very serious questions in a row. She wanted for Gwen to be considerate if she was willing to do both.

"What do you mean danger?" Gwen wondered as she was caught by the last question.

"Being chosen to have supernatural gifts has some catch which could lead anyone closest to your heart into their dead beds. Honestly, even you will protect them from any nasty supernatural entities, you can't saved them from dying in those creatures that you're going to be surrounded later." She answered honestly that leave Gwen speechless and put a thought about it deeply.
