Dinner Get-Together/Story Time

People say loving someone can make you feel a lot of pain but why would that happen? I figured that would never happen to me but it so happens to happen. It all started on a cold night in New York.

"Tala, get up and get changed. We'll be having guests over for Christmas dinner.", my mother says.

I would love to stay in my pajamas and sleep but I know for a fact that my mother is going to make sure that I've changed and left my room before the guest arrives. As I'm getting out of my comfortable bed, my mother calls me.

"Tala Nyx!"

"Yes, mother?", I answer.

"You better be up because our guest will be here any minute now.", my mother yells.

See what I mean; grabbing a shirt and jeans, just as I'm about to put them on…

"Tala, you better not be putting a shirt and jeans on. Wear a red or white dress.", my mother says.

'Nooooooo! There goes my happiness.' Grabbing the stupid red dress from the closet; I'm a little happy that the red dress is like a tank top with the bottom being short but layered. Quickly changing so my mother doesn't tell me to hurry. Just as I walk downstairs the doorbell rings.

"I'll get it, mother!", I yell, jogging to the door.

Opening the door to see two women with big smiles on their faces. I definitely don't know there are two. Before I knew it, the one lady with navy blue hair spoke.

"Tala, you've grown into a fine young lady."

"Now all you need to do is fall in love with a Grim reaper.", the other woman says.

"NO! She'll fall in love with a Gargoyle.", the woman before.

They continue to bicker back and forward. Where is my mother when I need her?

"Debbie! Beth! I'm so glad you guys could make it.", my mother says to the two bickering women.

I make my way to the kitchen to see cookies out so I quickly grab one accurately when the doorbell rings again. Just like before, I jog to the door while yelling that I'm getting it. Swinging the door open I see Krystal and Grace. Krystal is my best friend's mom; she has bright red hair with gorgeous baby blue eyes with her cat ears on top of her head. Grace on the other hand has beautiful blonde hair with some honey brown highlights with her emerald eyes; Grace has been in my life since I was a baby, meaning she's my godmother. Grace gets me more than my mother but I still love my mother.

"How are you doing, Tala?", Krystal asks.

"I'm good, now that you guys are here.", I say while hugging her.

"Where's my hug?.", Grace asks with fake sadness.

"I'm coming godmother.", I say with a smile on my face.

Once the hugs are done; Krystal and Grace head inside so I'm left outside with one of my best friends. There are so many words I could describe Rex with. A few would be honesty, loyal, courageous, and definitely way too energetic. Like this boy doesn't need any kind of sugar. To be honest though without him I wouldn't have the friends that I have now. I'm too shy actually start a conversation.

"Aren't you forgetting someone?", Rex asks.

I smile to myself before I say, "I'm not forgetting anyone."

I look out of the corner of my eye to see Rex's ears folded down, his eyes wide, and his mouth open. His ears perked up once he realized I was only teasing him; so he ran toward me. Hugging tightly while purring. This goofball is my forever best friend.

"You mean you know that Tala.", Rex says while sitting on the porch swing.

Rolling my eyes while closing the front door to join Rex on the swing; it's quiet for a few minutes before we start talking.

"So, I have this friend who recently moved here. And I believe you guys would totally hit it off.", Rex tells me.

"Rex, please for the love of God, don't try and hook me and your friend up. I like how my life is right now. So please don't ruin it; I'm begging you.", I say to Rex.

"Don't be like that! You need to open your shell; why must you be so shy? Is there a reason for that?", Rex says then asks.

This is what I've been dreading; taking a breather before telling him everything. "The reason for me being shy is because when I was living in France, I was an out-going person even if I did sometimes disappear but when I was in middle school that all changed. I started getting picked on by people who I didn't know but then I found out that the only reason my friends were with me was because I'm rich. I didn't like being used so I confronted them and that's when they started bullying me as well."

Taking a break while making sure he's still with me before continuing. "I figured if I become shy and don't talk to others unless they started the conversation, I would be safe. Surprisingly that worked but not for long; the week I was move, I got some texts from my so-called friends telling me to go kill myself and that I won't have actual friends. I moved to Texas for the eighth grade but the same thing happened but instead of just being shy, I started cutting myself. It helped a lot now that I think about it; I began to smile more because I wasn't afraid to get hurt by my bullies. Sadly they found out why and made sure everyone knew; so once again we moved but this time to here. Where I met Angela and you; I had no problems becoming friends with Ang. She got me but you, Rex, it was a whole different story. It was like I knew I could trust you but I was afraid too since I've been through so much."

Taking deep breaths so I don't end up crying. Once I got my breathing under control, I started again. "Once you found out I was rich you didn't change how you saw me; for that, I was incredibly happy and still am. Now you know why I'm so shy."

Rex gives me a hug while he's wiping his eyes. We both smile at each other before he helps me up. I begin floating since my emotions trigger my ghost genes; we make it to the living room where everyone is at.

"Tala! Rex! I'm glad you, guys could join us. You do know it's rude to leave your guest waiting?", the woman with the navy blue hair says then asks.

Before either Rex or myself got to speak Grace spoke. "Beth, leave them alone. You're here for her mother, not her." Rex ends up trying to grab me but since I'm a ghost his hand went right through. We make it to my room; he throws me, the shirt and jeans I was going to wear. Making myself solid; I quickly get changed while Rex is in the bathroom.

"Tala, you and Rex okay?", my mother asks.

"Yeah, we're okay. I think it would be best if we went somewhere.", I tell her.

"That's a good idea and one other thing, you'll be going to the same school as Rex and Angela. Just try not to get arrested.", my mother says.

Just when my mother stops talking Rex emerges from the bathroom. He grabs my hand and off we go into the cold New York. Thank god, it's not snowing; I'd be freezing since I'm wearing jean short shorts with black leggings, a tank top with a jean jacket plus my black boots.
