Chapter 17: The Value of Fear

~Third Person P.O.V~

One moment Leo felt the cold night air blowing against his skin, the next he felt nothing, but now the raven-haired boy felt warmth, yet somehow that unnerved him even more.

Forced to kneel, the chains of writhing black around his ankles and wrists weighed heavy on him, his mouth and eyes were both covered by bindings made of pure shadow. He felt helpless, he couldn't, he couldn't, he couldn't even scream; all he could do was listen and wait.

He could hear the crackling and snapping of an open flame, but nothing else, nothing but the sound of burning wood, that is until he heard it. The distinct sound of footsteps on a wood floor.

Thump. Thump. Thump. Thump. Thump. Thump. Thump. Thump. Thump.

They started off quiet, slowly growing louder, each time he heard the sound he knew whoever it was.. was drawing close. He felt his heart race, the sound of his heart increasing in speed as the footsteps increased in volume.
