D Minor

"No, no, no!"

"That is not a C major, that is an A minor.", Ms Lemoine scolded Jade.

Ms Lemoine, Jade's unfortunate piano teacher was now visibly frustrated.

But to be fair, it was only Jade's 27th attempt of the afternoon at playing a C major chord and only the 5th week of her life that she had been learning piano. I don't think that even I would be able to play a single note in that time.

I forget, is it Doh Ray Me So Fa or Doh Ray You a Dear La make Me So Fa I a Tea?

Which ever be the case, that is not what we are talking about.

Back to Jade.

"Sorry...", Jade murmured as she sunk into her seat.

She took a moment and stared in confusion at the many black and white piano keys infront of her

Jade was quite nervous and cautious, because she did not want to make yet another mistake. If her parents were to find out that she made so little progress, well then...

She would be a DEAD pianist.

Not that there's anything wrong with dead pianists. I mean if you're a dead pianist reading this then let's be friends. And hey even if you're dead but can't play the piano we can still be friends. I'm not racist against the ghost race. And if I know Jade, which I do, then she isn't racist either.

I think she would just prefer a bit more time being in the human race.

"Uh- maybe...Like this?", she hovered her right hand over a few white keys which she thought were the right notes.

Ms Lemoine gasped, "No -"

"Why is this so difficult for you. Have you learned nothing?

Your skill will be the end of my reputation."

"Please don't tell my parents.", Jade pleaded.

"All the keys are just so confusing.", she groaned whilst gesturing at the patterned white and black keys.

"I don't know about that young lady. I can't promise you anything. It has been 5 weeks already and your parents expect you to at least know Twinkle Twinkle Little Star by now."

"When I was your age, I could play the national Anthem with my eyes closed and one arm tied behind my back.", Ms Lemoine said proudly.

"What are you talking about, you're not even that old, you're like 7 years older than I am.", Jade said light heartedly, pointing out the fact that Ms Lemoine was indeed just 7 years older at the age of 24.

"Exactly, it is that easy."

Ms Lemoine placed her hands gently onto the piano keys.

"The piano is a place of good...", Ms Lemoine played a D major chord.

"...and evil", she played a D minor chord.

"Think of it like life. As you travel through this land of chaos and order

You will find darkness and light, only to be high and low.", Ms Lemoine struck the lowest note on the piano. There was a moment of silence as she allowed the note to completely ring out.

Jade watched intently, trying to pick up on what Ms Lemoine was going on about.

Ms Lemoine proceeded to play higher up on the piano,

"And if you move back up, you shall meet many people or notes on your way. Each person has a different tone or mood. If you interact with the right notes, you shall get to your intended destination or sound. "

At this point, Ms lemoine was playing a beautiful melody. It was so soft and lush, every note was rich and vibrant with just the right amounts of emotion.

By listening to this eardrum lullaby, Jade felt even more discouraged. She thought to herself that this sounded so exotic and good, she would never be able to play the piano like Ms Lemoine. Furthermore Ms Lemoine was only 7 years older than Jade, which meant that Ms Lemoine could certainly play all her chords correctly at Jade's age. But alas, Jade couldn't even play one chord correctly. How was she supposed to impress audiences when she couldn't even impress herself?

"Bravo."

"That's a fine explanation Ms Lemoine.", Jade's mom interrupted them from the doorway.

Jade fell into her chair trying to cower from what her mother might say next depending on how much she had just heard.

Jade's mum walked into the living room and threw a piece of dry wood into the fireplace.

Fiery ash rose into the air as it engulfed the wood in it's flames.

"Jade, please excuse us, I need to have a word with Ms Lemoine. Go finish your studies.",

Jade was quick to reply,

"But I already know my work and school literally started only today."

"Jade.", Jade's mum shot a stern look at Jade.

Jade got up and put her head down. She walked past her mum in frustration.

"I bet no one else has to study on the first day of school.", she mumbled to herself.

Jade walked past the wooden door frame of the living room and then proceeded down a short hallway which led to a wooden door.

The door was plastered with no entry signs and biohazard signs. Aside from the rather hostile signs, there were also many pictures of cute panda bear characters from Jade's favorite TV show, "Looney Toons". Some people who are Jade's age would have considered themselves too old for such a program, but that would never stop Jade from loving the nostalgia and light hearted nature of such a program.

She always found it easier to watch light hearted comedy programs than serious ones. This was because they didn't give you much to think about. The very essence of a child's program was so simple and neat that it allowed the viewer to have fun watching it. It didn't always leave you guessing what was coming next or leave you thinking about life. Thus it was a nice fresh breath of air for Jade.

Jade placed her hand on the silver handle of the door. She pulled it down and the door opened into her room.

Light green walls which were lined with cream colored borders surrounded her.

More pictures of panda bears as well as an addition of pictures of the morning sky could be seen stuck to the light green walls.

Jade picked up her phone from the wood varnished dressing table and flung herself onto her bed.

It took her awhile to find the "right spot", but eventually she did.

Jade unlocked her phone and started typing into a notepad.

Now I can't show you everything that she typed, because that would be the invasion of her privacy...and I think we've invaded enough privacies thus far. However, I will show you just this part.

Log 1039 :

12 Wednesday, January 2013.

* Activity - Low

* Occurrence - None

* Last Time - 020001830pm

* Elapsed - 0013

After doing whatever it was she was doing, she opened up her messenger app.

Jade was distraught to find no calls or messages from Aaron. Maybe she was being too "needy" or "clingy", but Aaron would never go a day without calling or texting her atleast once a day, and even if they did just see each other at school, they would still always talk later.

Jade decided to send him a message, even if his last seen was two days ago.

___________

Jade: Peek-a-boo | _ | *

___________

The message only got one

" * ", meaning that Aaron had not yet received it on his side. Either his data was off or Jade was blocked. Ofcourse there's no way that Jade was blocked.

Jade waited patiently for a second " * ".

What seemed like a minute, was actually a second. And a second " * " appeared next to Jade's message.

___________

Jade: Peek-a-boo | _ | **

___________

So he did receive it.

However, there was still no response from Aaron.

"Urgh, Aaron...I hate you so much sometimes.", Jade mumbled to herself, feeling just a little bit annoyed.

She had no idea where he could possibly be. Was he ok?

Did something happen? And he promised to call later.

Knowing how he had been since she last saw him at school, Jade had all the more reason to be concerned.

___________

Jade: Peek-a-boo | _ | **

Aaron: I see youuuu o_o **

___________

Jade's phone lit up and so did her eyes.

Aaron had finally replied.

Jade was relieved to see that he was okay.

But now the question was, should she reply back? Or give him anxiety too....

After several debates in her head, she had come to a conclusion.

___________

Jade: Peek-a-boo | _ | **

Aaron: I see youuuu o_o **

Jade: You know that those eyes just yell "STALKER" right? ^_^ **

Aaron: But who's to say that I'm not stalking you right now? O_o **

Jade: You haven't even had the time to call me yet, so why would you have the time to stalk me of all people? **

Aaron: Sorry, I was getting around to it, I promise. But I thought you still had piano lessons which I know only finish at 19:00 pm. And logically after that you go for dinner and only around 19:47 (to be precise) would you have checked your phone.

(I calculated 15 minutes to eat and 32 to have a brief argument with your mum about studying today) **

___________

Jade quickly looked at the time on her phone which read ; 18:30pm.

Jade smiled, seeing that Aaron knew her that well. If she did have dinner according to plan, she would have most likely argued with her mom. However, she also felt quite silly and "stupid" for being angry for something which wasn't even Aaron's fault.

___________

Aaron: Now that you're here, I know that things didn't go according to plan (the only flaw with probability is the outcome against the probable plan (^_-)), what happened? **

Jade : Oh youuu, Mr smarty pants. Well momma interrupted our piano lesson and kicked me out. It wasn't as harsh as it sounds. She just came in and said that she needed to speak to Lemoine alone. So she sent me to study.

Who studies on the FIRST day of school anyway besides maybe you? **

Aaron: Jade, you know she only means well for you. It's your last year of school and she's probably just worried about you. **

Aaron: and yes I would totally study today. But I've run out of things to study (rich people problems) (does it make me seem like a jerk saying that phrase seeing that I am actually rich?)

So now I was thinking of looking deeper into quantum mechanics, but I've already gotten my hands tied tonight.

**

Jade: I know she means well, but sometimes I wonder, what if they think I'm not good enough the way I am? But just a few more months and if I go away to study anywhere I know I'll miss them. [And no you don't seem like a jerk saying that :) ] **

Aaron: You're perfect the way you are, I know that and your parents definitely know that too. But I think your mom is just worried about your future. It's a "parent thing".

**

Aaron : And yes you're right, you'd miss them. We might never understand why the events in a certain time period occur, but we can only appreciate the fact that they do occur. Cherish those seconds gifted with souls you love, because eventually time leaves only memories. I'm not a poetic mind, you know that, but I think the science of time is actually more emotions than numbers. **

Jade: You're such a nerd but, I'm glad that you're my nerd.

**

Jade: Anyway enough about me. How's your parents and what exactly are your hands tied into tonight? (Human brains perhaps?) **

Aaron: (Was that a thank you I hear ^_^)

Well Both of those questions can be answered in the following explanation.

My hands are not tied into human brains but rather into human hair. You see, my parents are back in rehab and everytime that they do have a relapse their drug addiction becomes 10 times worse. The exact drug which they are addicted to is unknown but the combination of drugs which they abuse is. It's mainly a mixture of cocaine, heroine, LSD, chlorophyll from plants and the pollen from germinating plants.

Now here's where it gets interesting.

It is normal for any human to experience relapse. But when they relapse, it's way worse. Everytime they have had a relapse, one or more ingredients are changed/added to the mixture. It's like they're trying to perfect a stronger drug or something.

Now any normal human would die from such amounts of drug abuse. However they don't seem to be negatively affected (regarding organs) by the drugs.

This must mean that there's something different about the way that their bodies react to drugs. Which means that normal drug treatment would obviously not be effective. It has to have something to do with their genetics, I just know it. That's why I'm here in the lab. **

Jade: I can't argue with that, it does seem like a compelling argument.

Different reaction = different treatment. I assume that you're analyzing their genetic make up through their hair strands then?

And I didn't know you had a lab??? **

Aaron: I must've forgotten to mention it. It was my grandfather's. It's more like a study than a lab. Just a study with the items from a lab. Reminds me of an alchemist's lab actually (You know the medieval look).

And yes, I'm looking at their hair as we speak. It most likely has something to do with mitosis and the cell regenerative properties. **

Jade: Seeing that you've gotten "Rich people problems", how come you haven't just hired actual scientists and lab specialists to analyze this for you? **

Aaron: They already did many times before. Doctors and specialists of all majors have tried with my parents but apparently nobody knows what's wrong. So if you want something done right, gotta do it yourself.... Even if you're rich. **

Jade: Okay, let's hear it. **

Aaron: Hear what? **

Jade: Your hypothesis Einstein. (^o^). **

Aaron: Ohh...Well long term drug abuse does eventually damage organ and brain tissue as well as functioning. However, the body does also heal itself through cell replacement and regeneration by mitosis over time.

The brain forms new cells through neurogenesis. There's something in the drugs or their genetics that's making their new formed cells so immune to the drugs, that they have to keep making a drastically stronger dose to satisfy their cravings. Something has to be changing the normal coding of DNA. It's like a false evolving of most probably the brain cells.

By analyzing their hair samples I can find out if it's genetics or something in the drug itself. **

Jade: Or also what if there's something that is causing their cells to regenerate differently from the other cells, therefore those cells don't have the pre - known knowledge of how to fight the drug, thus it craves for more.

**

Aaron: What would I do without you. That could actually be a possibility. Definitely noted. Thanks Ms “smartier” pants.

Anyway I have to get back to work now, see you tomorrow. Goodnight, Sweet dreams and DON'T bite the bed bugs.

<3 <3 <3 :) **

Jade: You're welcome, Don't hurt your head too much. And don't worry about me biting the bed bugs, I'll definitely leave some for you. ^_-

Goodnight, sweet dreams.

<3<3<3<3. **
