“Jesse?” she whispered, causing his eyes to close.

The sound of his real name coming from her had his stomach in knots. He’d missed hearing it. And she’d never said his name with so much concern in her voice. He didn’t want to tell her the truth. He wanted to keep her just the way she was. He would miss the way she treated him now, but if he lied to her and she found out, she wouldn’t want him ever again. He couldn’t risk that.

“Where did the name Kevin come from?”

“I saw my therapist today. She’s trying to help me recover my memories. I remembered a conversation we had about a dog. I’ve had dreams about him. I know I was in love with him. I’m just trying to piece together my life but it doesn’t make sense because everyone called me Renee, including you, and it seems to jump from him to you. And now you’re telling me that we’ve been on the run.”
