“You were hiding from me, but not because you wanted to. I’ll explain everything later, okay? I think Valerie is wondering why I’m still talking to you. I really don’t want her to blow my cover. I’ll see you Friday night,” Kevin said as he slid out of the booth.

He handed her money for the coffee and a tip. His hand squeezed hers as he did. She felt her face blush. She put the money in her apron and walked over to the register. Valerie had been eyeing Kevin to see what he would do. She figured she wouldn’t see Kevin in here again since Valerie was so suspicious. She took the money out to pay for his coffee and saw a piece of paper wrapped in it. She took the paper and put it back in her apron. When she went on break, she went to the bathroom. She pulled the paper out of her apron.
