The grass felt wet and soft under my feet rushed after the moon, like it was directing to a certain place. I felt a gravitational pull towards a very mystical forest. it had the most beautiful scenery. The moon all of a sudden stopped moving, and I found myself in the middle of nowhere all alone. I could only hear the sounds of the water and the songs of the crickets and frogs. I walked a bit further pushing the dangling leaves away from my face, only to be faced with a mesmerizing view of a glowing waterfall.
Everywhere so peaceful. I've never more at peace than here since...
I couldn't hold myself anymore I had to get into the water and swim to the waterfall. it seemed a bit scary, but I had been taught to be fearless. I slowly went into the water. Surprisingly it wasn't too cold, just the right temperature. I engulfed myself in it, just floating. Not drowning or swimming. It was nice.
As I brought my head out of the water, I met a very familiar pair of brown eyes staring at me.
I immediately wake up from my sleep. Suddenly everywhere is hot. I can't breathe. I need some air. I get up from my bed, walk to the bathroom to rinse my face. After that I get my shoes, wear them, get my phone and step out. Once I have my hand on the doorknob, I remember we're not allowed outside after lights out.
"Shit. I need to get the hell out of here." I whisper to myself.
I open the door quietly and step out gently, because I honestly don't have the energy to get in trouble. I walk down to the hallway stairs and sit down. 'I really need to talk to someone.' There's only one person I can think of to talk to.
I dial the number. As I am about to hang up thinking he doesn't have time for me- he picks up.
"Hello." gosh his voice. I haven't spoken to him in a while.
"Hey." I respond
"Amira..."
"Yeah."
he chuckles before talking again. "You do know it's 3am right."
"You said you'll always have time for me." I whisper
He sighs "You couldn't sleep?"
"I had a dream about my dad again. Except this time it was really different."
"How different?"
"If I say you're gonna think I'm crazy and laugh at me." I rub my hand on my face and through my hair.
"Go on."
I take a really deep breath before talking. "I dreamt that I was walking through the woods. Then I found this very beautiful waterfall with the moonlight reflecting on it. I wanted to take a swim, so I went into the water and started floating. Anyway, when I was done floating, I brought my head out of the water, and there he was. Staring at me." I stop
"What's strange about that?" he whispers
"Well first of all, I was in the woods and it felt very safe familiar and free... and my dad was a wolf." I close my eyes like that would stop me from hearing myself.
There was silence, until he decided to laugh. I chuckle, because it does sound funny coming out of my mouth.
"Did he eat you?" he laughs again
"Hahaha very funny Steven."
He stops laughing. "What?" I ask him
"Nothing."
"What is it?"
"It's just that we haven't really spoken in a while and the first thing you say to me in months is this. Also it's really nice to hear you say my name. It has always sounded different from your mouth."
I don't say anything immediately.
"Now you're the one saying something funny." I reply
"Maybe. I miss you."
"Steven-" I sigh unable to continue
"I know, I know. We agreed."
"Yeah." I pause for a second. "Steven?"
"I miss you too." I could feel him smiling from the other end of the phone.
"Thanks for having my time and listening to my crazy ass."
"Goodnight Amira."
"Goodnight."
I smile and head back to my room ready to go back to bed.
