I knew it would've been a bad idea to sit with the girls for a while, but once I got there I had an idea to ask them about the situation.
I decided to join them by the table next to the window.
I took the seat beside Dwight, but opposite Rachel and Jaslene. I had no idea why they want to have a chat.
It might not be too bad to get to know them. After my last encounter in making friends, I decided to not get too close to anyone.
I know it might sound absurd and very extra of me, but I have trust issues.
However, when they brought up the fact that I passed out, I was utterly embarrassed. I immediately regretted joining them.
I usually am not, since I recognized as a cool person.
"I heard you fainted. Is that really true?" Rachel asks me.
Hearing them talk about it made my face go red.
'I cannot believe I am blushing right now. This is very embarrassing.'
"So?" I say, folding my arms, while puffing my chest up on my seat as a very calmly collected person.
"What were you doing outside your room in the middle of the night?" she questions me again.
"I could the same for you." I try to turn the table around.
"I could not get much sleep last night. I heard lots of movements. When I took a peep, I saw you running down the stairs." I say to Rachel.
"That is non of your business?" she replies me.
"Do you guys have a cult or something that you are hiding?" I ask raising my brows.
"Sometimes we like to exercise at night when no one can disturb us." Dwight answer this time.
"We? As in the entire school, because that was what I saw."
"We are not obliged to answer your questions." Rachel says this time, with a type of leader of exterior.
To take away the awkward silence after our little chatter, Jaslene decides to make matters worse by asking me if Jonathan really did carry me after fainting.
"Did he really carry you when you fainted?"
'She is so naive. She can't even read the room. If she weren't so pretty, I'd want to smack the back of her tiny head with my shoe.'
Dwight obviously feeling the tension uses her shoulder to slightly bump Jaslene telling her to shut up.
"I'm sure he would've done that for anyone. That's just the type of leader he is." Rachel says eyeing me intently.
"Okay!" I exclaim not taking it anymore. "Do you have a problem with me?" I ask her.
"This literally the second time we are having a conversation, so I don't think I've done anything to you yet."
"Yet?!"
I shrug as a reply.
"Why do you ask?" she asks with a smug on her face.
"You keep watching my every move. and you are giving me the stink eye."
"Why would I have a problem with you? We clearly are not on the same level." she says smiling.
She may be smiling, but she really wants my head. For reasons I do not know.
I make enemies fast, but this fast.
I throw my head sighing. "Whatever." I honestly couldn't care less if she does not like me. Not everyone is meant to like me.
"Have any of you seen Jonathan?" I ask.
Rachel shifts in her chair at my question, while the girls look confused.
"Why would you be looking for him?"
"That's my problem don't you think."
"I don't think anything!" she stands angrily from her chair. "He is my boyfriend and I demand to know why you are looking for him."
"Dude chill. He has something to tell me. That's why I'm looking for him."
"Why would you two even have something to talk about? I thought you both hated your guts." Dwight says, while
Jaslene tries to get Rachel to back to her chair.
The sight is just remarkable.
However, I do understand. If a brilliant and gorgeous girl like me started asking questions about my boyfriend, I would be pissed.
Too bad that never happened to me, so maybe I do not understand.
"You know there is a fine line between love and hate, so we probably shouldn't us the word hate."
"Are you purposely trying to piss me off right now?" Rachel asks me folding her arms.
I laugh at her. "I'm just kidding. He has something he promised to tell me, but I can't find him, so I just thought I'd ask since you all seen close."
"Why would he promise you something?"
"If you find him please do ask him for me." Talking about him and to them makes my blood boil, so I decide to ask them about it instead of waiting.
"Can I ask you guys something?"
'What is it?" Dwight asks.
"Is it about the most eligible boys in school, because if you want their numbers, I can hook you up."
"...That is not what I was about to ask, but we should definitely have a chat later. I can tell your priorities are and I am very interested."
"Anyway, what do you girls think about shapeshifters?"
"What?"
"Like werewolves..." My immediate response leads to their shift in composure which does not go unnoticed.
"Why would you ask that?" Jaslene asks.
"I'm just curious." I give a little smile.
"That is a very odd curiosity." Dwight says.
"What made you suddenly curious?" Rachel asks.
"Recent events." I reply. "Anyway what are your thoughts? Think things like that exist?" I ask wanting to see their reactions.
While answering my question, I notice that Dwight is not making eye contact and she keeps rubbing her ears. "They are obviously fictitious." she answers nonchalantly.
"Right." I answer, obviously not believing a word.
"By the way what recent events?" Rachel asks me.
'Hmm... She's attentive.'
"Nothing. I just happen to see some sort of phenomenon."
"You know science can't explain a lot of things. There are just things that are... well I guess you could say supernatural."
I stay silent for a second while retaining the smile on my face.
"Anyway. I'm gonna leave now. I had a nice chat with you girls today. I've never really had girl chat with more than one girl, so It was nice. See you later."
As I immediately get up from my seat, I get a whiff of a familiar scent. The scent I had been looking for the entire day.
I whip my head to look at him standing at the entrance of the cafeteria. We immediately lock eyes.
I frown, and he takes that as a sign to walk to our table.
The other boys are with him. They stride into the cafeteria like those really popular guys in teenage romance movies, with the spotlight on them.
All the girls want them and all the boys want to be them.
Too bad I'm too pissed to notice all of their glorious handsomeness.
Once they finally get to the table, Jonathan and I are having a full fledged eye contest.
"Where the hell have you been?"
It seemed the entire cafeteria heard me, because everyone gasped, then remained silent while watching us.
"Have you been looking for me?" he asks me.
"Don't return my question with a question. Answer me."
"I had to take care of something."
"For the entire day. You didn't attend any class today. And yes I looked for you. You made a promise and you didn't fulfil it."
Everyone seems to be listening in on our conversation.
"Jonathan." Rachel calls for him. We take a second to break eye contact before he silently apologizes and goes to her side of the table.
"I heard about what happened. How are you feeling?"
"Does the whole school know about it?" I ask the group.
"They know now." Dwight says, referring to the amount of eyes and ears concentrated on us.
I sigh - not out of embarrassment, but pure irritation.
It's like my old school, everyone thought they had the right to my business, just because I was considered a delinquent.
I realize that I have not replied Charlie.
I tell him I'm okay before leaving.
"I'm okay Charlie. I', actually tired from my recent adventures. I would like to go to bed early tonight."
"Bye guys." I say, then take my leave.
"Amira!" I hear Jonathan call out for me once I reach the entrance of the cafeteria building.
I stand in front of the building waiting for him to catch up to me.
"Can we talk?" he asks.
"Sure." I say facing him.
"I'm sorry about today. I promised that I would explain everything to you, but I didn't."
I remain silent, debating what to say. But I decided not to get angry because it's not worth it, nor am I entitled to his time.
"Truthfully Jonathan I'm not angry about today. I admit that I was a bit frustrated because I was looking for you earlier, but honestly I'm not anymore."
"I am a bit disappointed, because initially I wasn't interested in hearing about all this, but you showed up and turned into that thing. Then you made a promise that you didn't keep, but to be fair I shouldn't get angry, because you are actually taking time out of your daily routine to explain something to me that I maybe am not even entitled to knowing."
I continue.
"So it's fine. Besides we aren't even friends, so your words don't really have much effect on me."
"You are entitled to know. Everything about here is connected to you." he says ignoring my last statement.
"Then why didn't you show up?"
"You know what. I don't really care. Just tell me the truth. Please." I plead more anxious to know more about these werewolves more than ever.
"Wait here for a second." he says before zooming off.
It was like a scene from Tom and Jerry, where one minute they're there and the next it's the mist of their body.
While waiting for him in front of the cafeteria building, I sway my right leg side ways on the ground out of boredom.
After a couple of minutes, he arrives in front of me with a bag on his back.
He tells me to follow him to the water fountain. As we were headed there, I ask him what he had to do.
"Why did you get your bag?"
"I'm hungry."
I stare at his back in confusion.
Once we got to the water fountain, we sat down on the benches near it. He opens the bag and brings out snacks and two drinks.
I giggle finding it funny for no reason.
He looks at me with a straight face.
'I can tell he is serious.'
He hands me one of the drinks, then takes a big sip out of his own coke.
"So where to begin."
I sit silently waiting for him.
"As you already know. I am a werewolf. And so are ninety eight percent of the students here."
'I knew it. It's a good thing I called Lizzy before my death.'
"What?!" Jonathan exclaims.
"What?" I ask confused.
"Okay I'm going to explain this mind communication thing."
"Wait you heard my thought just now."
"Yes. Well... sort of."
"I knew it. When I thought of something around you and Charlie. You guys would either snicker or make a comment about it. I never understood."
"Yes yes you have a good intuition. Whatever. Can I continue?"
I roll my eyes, but keep quiet.
"It isn't really about reading ones mind. It's mainly like you channeling your wolf to communicates things to us."
"If I was channeling my wolf then how would I be scared of getting eaten by you guys."
"There is also a mind link between mates." he says nonchalantly.
"What?" I know what mates are. I read about them.
Wolves can choose a mate, whom they would be mated to for life, but can always choose new mates.
"It's not only with mates. It's also with pack members."
"But I'm not a pack member."
"Technically, you are. Your dad was part of the pack, so I guess that automatically makes you a pack member."
"Wait you know what a pack member is?" he asks me.
"I did some research."
"Oh... Okay."
"I'm still confused about something though." I say.
"What is it?" he asks turning on the bench to face me, while putting a whole biscuit in his mouth.
I chuckle a bit before asking my question.
"I read about lycans and werewolves. Which one are you guys?"
"Well I did turn at my own will the other night. So which do you think?" he looks at me with a small smile o his face.
"A lycan. I thought lycans were originally... You know what forget it. I want to know my real connection to it all."
"In a pack we have an alpha, beta, luna, delta and so on. In our pack, my dad is the alpha."
"Oh so that means, your mum is the luna." I say truly surprised.
"Your dad... he was the beta." he says ignoring my comment. I don't ask why, because I'm here for information on me - not his family line.
"The beta is the second in command after the alpha."
"Yes." he says.
"Well I guess that explains why he almost never home."
"What about my mum?" I ask
"She's human."
"What?"
He laughs finding my confusion funny. "Isn't it obvious?" he asks
"I'm pretty sure I've only known humans in my life. I don't think I've had much experience knowing what's assumed to be real and what's assumed to not be real."
"But I don't get it. Shouldn't your kind be with your kind?" I ask still confused.
"My kind?" he furrows a brow at me. "My kind is your kind. We're the same."
"Not really. You're half human and half wolf. Not me. I'm more human than wolf. I'm probably three quarters human and one quarter human." I say with a straight face, which seemed to make him laugh again.
We both burst into laughter, finding what I said completely ludicrous.

As the evening darkened, Jonathan suggested to go back to out dorms early to get some rest since we both had been rather exhausted.
For some reason, I felt a bit disappointed about having to leave. Weirdly enough I was enjoying his company.
He wasn't so bad after all. All he needs to do is loosen up, and he'll be a lot more relaxing to be around.
I ended up sleeping really well that night that I didn't want to wake up the next day.
