10: Who Doesn’t Like Twenty One Pilots?

Dark Lord: Pick you up in 10.

It was late at night and I was in my dorm when I received a message from Derek, we haven't talked the entire day after the incident at the library. I was a little upset about the way both Carson and him treated me at the library to prove their superiority, But I still got ready and was waiting for him.

A dashing Black sports car pulled up and he told me to get in.

"Where are we going?"

"It's a surprise," he said.

"Why all of a sudden?"

"As an apology for today," he gave me a puppy dog face.

"That face doesn't work on me," I rolled my eyes at him.

"Let's see if the surprise does," he says.

We drove off and he put some music on. Some heavy metal music started playing and I scrunched my face in annoyance.

"What is wrong with you?" I asked.

"I had a little gas earlier today, apart from it nothing, You?" He said. Idiot.

"No, not that, you buffoon, the music!"

"Oh, You don't like Twenty One Pilots?" He asked me with a horrid expression on his face.

"Can't you play something a little quieter!" I shouted, "why is he shouting?"

"I'm not sure about taking you out anywhere now, Can you find your way back to the dorms?"

"I'll kill you," I said and he listened to the shouting man for the rest of the ride.

"We're here," he said and I looked out excitedly, but my face fell when I saw the big gate and on it the initials 'EWU'.

"Your surprise is Eastwood? It's no surprise, I come here everyday," I said.

"Day, you come here everyday, it's night, that makes all the difference," he said.

"What difference does night make?"

"There are somethings that can only be done at night," he said looking at me seductively.

"What the hell? We are not doing anything. Are you crazy?" I shouted as he moved closer to me in his car.

"I want to do it, I won't be shy about it," he said slowly.

"I'll punch your balls so hard that I'm afraid you won't be doing it ever," I said. He looked at me for a few seconds before bursting out laughing.

"God, Your face, I'm kidding," he said and climbed out of the car, I followed him and he guided me to a wall, "Hop on," he said sitting down on the ground, I did and he pushed me up, I struggled to climb on the wall when I heard him say beneath me, "Must eat like a pig."

My jaw drops to the ground, "I don't eat like a pig,"

"You sure weigh like one," he says and I kick him on his head before settling on the wall, "Oops," I say.

"Ouch! Jump to the other side, Piggy!" he says rubbing his head with one hand.

"No way, I'm not jumping," I whispered back, sitting still on the wall. He climbed up the wall effortlessly and said. "Come on, It's not even high," he said.

I took a coin out of my pocket and threw it on the ground and it made a loud clamp sound.

"Okay, it's not even that high," he says.

"Keyword: that," I say.

He pulls his leg up looking at me funny. I couldn't understand why he was doing that until the leg came close enough to kick me.

"No, no, no, I swear to god-," was all I could say before he kicked me from the side and I landed on the ground. This jerk.

"Oops!" He says then jumped to the ground himself, picking me up.

"You'll pay for that," I said.

"I was born to pay for it," he gave me his biggest smile.

He took me to the centre of the University where 4 paths join together and in the middle is placed a big solid globe, the entire globe is plain grey except for one green dot, where Eastwood stands. The globe is broken from the top, it's supposed to be symbolic. There's this huge hole at the top of the globe from where it's broken. I'll never understand modern art, but this was still pretty good.

I was looking at my surroundings to see if someone's around while Derek was busy doing something on the other side of the globe.

"Come here," he shouts. I go round the globe, pun intended. And look at what he has been doing but he was nowhere to be seen.

"Oyi! Here!" He says and I look up at the direction of the voice and I'm shocked to see him standing on top of the globe. He throws the rope ladder down and says, "Come up."

"Are you crazy? Come down."

"Can you do this one thing without asking questions, please." He says and I climb up while he holds the ladder tightly. I was on the top of the globe where there's enough space for the both of us and his bag, I saw a big handle in the middle of the globe to which the ladder was tied to.

"What were you holding the ladder for then?" I asked the stupid boy beside me.

"Dramatics," he shrugs. This idiot.

"What are we doing here?" I ask him.

"Relaxing," he said and laid down, "Lay down and look up," he looked so peaceful at this point.

I realised I was so busy freaking out that I didn't even see how beautiful the campus looked with just a couple street lamps on, I laid down with Derek and looked up, the sky was so clear and full of stars. It feels like I'm watching the sky for the first time, like actually looking at it, just for the the purpose of looking at it.

"Wow," I say.

"I know. It's my favourite place in this town,"

"Your home isn't your favourite place in this town?" I asked, still gazing at the stars.

"This is home," He smiles at me, some minutes pass and we just lie there gazing at the sky then, he takes his air pods out, handing one to me and stuffing one in his own ear.

'Get you the Moon' by Kina ft. Snow starts playing.

Here I am in the middle of Eastwood looking at the stars in this breezy night and it feels like heaven. This is not what I thought I'll be doing in college, but this definitely is better.

'Cause you are, you are

The reason why I'm still hanging on

'Cause you are, you are

The reason why my head is still above water.'

As soon as the lines came I felt his eyes turning to me for no reason.

'And if I could I'd get you the moon

And give it to you

And if death was coming for you

I'd give my life for you'

We stayed there for two hours and were talking about the most random stuff we could think of.

"Okay, your turn," he says.

"Ummm, I can't say STS words," I say eating my gummy bears which he had in his bag.

"What does that mean?" He asks giggling.

"Words like beastsss, dustsss, lastsss," I try saying the words but fail miserably and he laughs.

"I can't say it, my tongue just twistsssss," I say without realising twists is also a STS word and he laughs louder.

"Okay okay, shut up now!" I say.

"That's nothing, I can't cut my own nails, I don't know how to use a nail-cutter, My life is definitely harder," he says.

"Oh please, Can you imagine trying to ask my friends to come watch 'Fantastic Beastsss and where to find them' with me? Nothing could be harder." I say and he laughs at me.

I wait for him to finish laughing then say, "Are you sure we won't be caught on CCTV?"

"Relax, I know where each camera is, Do you think this is my first time?"

"I'm sure not," I looked at my watch, "It's late, Should we head back?"

"Yeah," he nods and we both get down the globe.

"Just a second, there's one last thing I need to do," he says and I nod.

"Just promise me that you won't tell anyone," he says and I get suspicious about what it could be.

"Okay," I reply.

"And don't shout, just stay calm, don't speak at all," he said and at this point I was losing my mind.

"Okay."

He took a few steps away from me and took two spray cans out of his bag, and started painting a graffiti on the ground, but I couldn't make out what he was painting. After a while I realised it's not a graffiti, those are words, he's writing something down. It took him about 10 minutes to write something two sentences long. I couldn't make out what it was because it was too dark.

Derek took his phone out and played a song, the air-pods were still in our ears, "For theatrics," he said with an evil smirk on his face.

Boys will be boys.

The song 'River' by Bishop Briggs starts playing.

'Like a river, like a river, sh-

Like a river, like a river, sh-

Like a river, like a river

Shut your mouth and run me like a river.'

Derek took a small gun out, obviously not real. But I couldn't understand what he meant to do with it, then my eyes flew open when he suddenly fired at the ground where he wrote, he kept on firing and I saw fire erupting from the shots he fired. What was in those spray cans? The fire was low and within a minute all the words he wrote were on fire, leaving a permanent mark on the ground. It looks epic, it looks historic, the words down there will always be fresh in my mind as it is now, I will remember these words on fire as they are now.

We're here in the devil's land,

Doing God's work. -F3

'Shut your mouth, baby, stand and deliver

Holy hands, will they make me a sinner?

Like a river, like a river

Shut your mouth and run me like a river.'

"Time to go," he took my hand and we walked away with the ground still on fire.
