"Me?" Um well, Jack didn't know how to answer this question.
He feels that Anna will find it hard to believe, both have a point at this aspect come to think of it. "I just want to help you out of this situation, I just really hate blackmailers."
"Do you realise that I have over 20,000£ of debt, excuse my language but only a dumbass would give that much money to a stranger." Anna's tone became thicker, and inevitably it sounds like there is more life in her tone.
"I have over 6,000,000£ in my bank account, I don't think 20,000£ would necessarily make a big irreversible hole in my wealth." Although half intended, this claim revealed more about Jack and what he is capable of apart from smacking the daylights out of a blackmailer.
"You don't sell drugs do you?" Anna asks, half as a joke and half out of dying curiosity.
"No, I'm a champion heavy weight boxer." Giving it a little thought after, he decides to add. "Or at least I was."
"Was?" She puzzles, wanting to know if this last sentence has anything at all to do with her.
"Last night I was supposed to defend my title, my belt. But since I couldn't make it there, to the officials it seemed like I chickened out." He explained, although he doesn't sound quite sad about it.
"You didn't chicken out, you faced an armed man!" She recalls, but this of course opened more questions in her mind about what happened last night but this exact second isn't the best time to ask.
"That's not how they see it, as far as I'm concerned even the people in the streets thought that I attacked your boyfriend and kidnapped you after it." He pitches bit by bit, not trying to startle her but just trying to explain. "But I think it is all for the best."
"What people see it as doesn't matter, at least if you did not show your face to those strangers." She tried to comfort him, although barely knowing him.
Feels like the least she could do in exchange for all this help aye? But she got this urge to ask, "How is this for the best? It could not have gone worse!"
"This boxing life, it can and will be overwhelming. It is like a weight on my shoulders that I could not have brushed off for years." He expresses in his average thick tone, but this time it felt a bit more lifeless.
It is clear to notice that this boxing life has drained him.
"Sounds like you have enough cash to retire plus it doesn't sound like you have another option." She tries to comfort him again but somehow everything she said came out the way she did not mean it, rougher.
"Oh there is another way around, I just don't think I want to take it." Now his tone arising in enthusiasm just a little bit, he adds. "I'll call my manager and ask him to fill in my resignation."
...
"How did the bank even give you 15,000£?" Jack puzzles, not angry but curious.
It is actually a base for another question. "Where do you work?" He glanced at her, finding cute how she is wearing brown clothing again.
"I work in an office, I actually have a good position. I'm above employees in a costumer service hotline." She cited to the last detail, I mean why would she hide such information to a guy who just casually handed 15,000£ to her?
"Still sounds a tad big, I'm guessing your salary ranges anywhere from 1,800 to 2,100£." He queries once more, surprisingly curious about such an unusual topic.
I mean most people just ask what you work and practically try to guess the salary themselves, some take the liberty to ask.
"That's a good guess actually, I earn 2,000£ a month. Or at least I used too after I got the promotion, most of my salary went by paying debt thanks to that jackass!" Indeed she has gathered a lot of hate for the blackmailer who did her wrong and who can blame her?
They were passing through a burger stand and the smell went through Anna's nose, a crave follows right after.
The little breakfast that Jack provided was nice but she craves to enjoy the finer things again. Due to the debt all around her, she has been eating worse than a homeless person.
Jack noticed her reaction, her whole chest expanded when she took in the burger's smell. Although this isn't actually her favourite food, it sure meets the top 10.
"Can I treat you with a burger?" And afterwards with a joking manner so Anna can feel better about spending his money again, he adds. "On your next salary you can treat me."
"It's a date then." She threw that word around as a joke, even let out a short laugh after and rushed towards the window where she can pick up a burger.
This is a unique restaurant although low budget, the sign says. "Ali's Burgers".
In the first sign it does sound middle eastern, but damn they know how to make burgers.
A light skinned man walked near the window, inevitably a UK native. Noticeable to the exact when he spoke, his accent is unmistakable. "What will you be having mate?"
"I'll take a chicken burger, hold the Mayonnaise but add a lot of ketchup." Anna weighs in, giving it another short thought she requests. "Also add just a little bit of salad."
"Of course." The man replied and started making the burger while taking Jack's order as well.
Jack took a double beef burger, it also has a little bit of mayonnaise over it and a pinch of hot pepper. Anna noticed it, and jokingly stretched her words. "Ewww you like mayonnaise?"
"Of course, I'm not scared of a condiment." He deciphers, obviously aiming to tease Anna.
"That would be 7£ mate!" The man interrupted, aiming to take their money first before handing out the burgers.
"Of course of course." Jack lightly utters, pulls out his wallet and gives a 100£ bill, assuring. "Keep the change."
Opening his eyes wide in shock, the light skinned man answers. "Thanks mate!"
And started working faster, more precise thanks to his enthusiasm being tampered for the best.
