Chapter 96 - Blade of Skarda

Zio runs carefully like he was being careful not to trip. He headed to the armory and grabbed a medium-sized shield that could cover his neck and down to the half of his thigh. His father’s word reverberates through his mind; ‘A warrior could never go home without his shield’.

At first, he thought that it was an antique saying about honor and virtue. He thought that if a man returned home alive and without the shield, it means that he had thrown it away while deserting for his life. An act of cowardice that is unacceptable to all.

But the truth is, the reason is much straightforward. It doesn’t take any advanced understanding of metaphor to decipher the meaning of the words. A warrior could never go home without a shield is simply because the shield protects him from harm that could hinder him on his journey.

“ A sword to slash the path and a shield to keep it straight. ”
