???
My head hurts. And my body feels heavy.
With effort, I opened my eyes.
Before me were dozens of skeletal monsters and shadowlings.
I stared, confused.
'What's going on here?' I thought as I looked around to find a bleak a landscape.
The ground was covered in a black mucous-like substance.
There was a stone block like the one next to the portal a few feet from me.
It was lit up and had words on it.
[You are the first to die in the world dungeon. As such you have activated the hidden effect; reverse death. Status has been reset, and race has been altered. You have been placed in the first Shadow Zone. Good luck.]
'What? I... died? But how? The last thing I remember was going through the portal.' I thought.
"Status." I said.
My voice was sharper than I remembered.

'What the hell? What is this? What's going on?' I thought.
'My status... what...' I raised a hand only to find bony fingers greeting me as my thoughts trailed off.
I sat in a daze for I don't know how long. An hour, two?
Anger started to burn within me.
The Great Me died? Impossible.
Simply impossible.
No, this must be a test from Knasver.
So be it, if Knasver wills it, I shall obey. I shall serve him as the greatest Lich the world has ever seen!
I shifted my bony frame and pointed at one of the shadowlings.
'Dark Arrow was it?' I thought.
"Dark Arrow." I chanted.
A foot long pointed cylinder of energy flew from my finger.
It ripped through the shadowling in an instant.
I pointed at the remaining four and killed them with Dark Arrow.
Three skeletons approached me.
"We are this one's Bone Guardians. We swear our fealty till second death." The one in the lead said in a raspy voice.
"You will serve me well. For now keep watch as I reanimate these shadowlings." I said.
"Understood Lord." The lead guardian said.
Each dark arrow cost three mana, raise lesser zombie took 20, and raise lesser skeleton took 10. However, raise lesser zombie required that they be reanimated within five minutes. I would only be able to raise two zombies and the other three as skeletons.
As I waited for my mana to regenerate, I looked at the Bone Exchange skill.
Bone Exchange: Using Qi one can switch their bones with those of another. One can also alter their bone structure. Both processes are painful. When using bones belonging to an entity much more powerful than the user, the process will take longer and cause more pain.
'Interesting. So this is why a Lich is normally stronger the older they are.' I contemplated how useful the skill was to me at the moment.
'Bone exchange will be the foundation for my future, however at the moment it has no use to me. I should focus more on building an army at the moment.' I thought as I raised the shadowlings one by one.
They were simple creatures. They were about ten inches tall and a foot long. They had a spiked tail and razor-sharp fangs and claws. They didn't have much in the way of strength, however they were fast and agile.
