Birthday

I sat down on the couch and asked "What's wrong?"

Suga looked at Lo and then at me.

Lo said "My birthday is tomorrow and I was wondering if our parents are coming."

I raised an eyebrow and said "They can't come over here because they can't travel. Do you want to see them?"

Lo looked at me sad and said "Yes but I don't think they want to see me."

I said "Let's go see them and see what happens."

Lo said "I'm scared they will hurt my feelings on my birthday."

I chuckled and said "You can't ever let people ruin your day. You need to learn to shake it off and look at the bright side."

Lo pouted and said "I don't know if I want to go now."

I said "What if we go before your birthday?"

Lo said "Lets just go on my birthday and if they're mean then oh well."

Suga said "We'll make it up to you!"

Lo chuckled and said "You sound like a dad."

Suga looked at me and I looked away. "Ok well go pack up." I said.

Lo said "Ok I'll pack up."

*Next day at the airport*

"Stay close because the airport will be packed." I said to Lo.

Suga said "Hold my hand tight. If someone does something to you scream and tell us."

Lo said "Ok I got it."

I said "Let's go."

*A few hours later*

"Finally home." I said.

Suga said "Old home sweet memories. I love this. Well some."

I looked at my parents house and sighed. "Lets go." I said.

Suga said "You want me to stay out here."

I said "No come with us."

Suga said "I don't know if I'll be able to control myself."

I said "Don't worry."

Suga nodded and we got to the door.

Lo knocked the door and my mother opened the door.

Lo said "Mommy!"

My mother hugged her and said "Lo I missed you!"

My father joined the hug. Lo said "It's my birthday."

My mother said "I know happy birthday. I thought you wouldn't be here."

Lo said "I wanted to see you guys since you guys can't go over there."

My father said "I will go buy a cake."

Suga said "We brought one with us already."

He held it up and gave it to my father.

Lo said "So has everything been ok?"

My father said "Of course."

My mother said "You left! Of course not! You were suppose to stay here with us!"

Lo looked down and I said "Come lets get you a piece of cake."

Lo whispered "Is she mad?"

I said "She just missed you."

Lo said "I wouldn't act like that."

"Good." I said.

We started to eat cake and my mother said "Your living with him and your not married! Are you pregnant?"

Suga looked at me and I said "We all have our own rooms and we're not married."

My mother said "Your living with him though!"

My father said "You can't live with someone who doesn't want marriage!"

My mother said "You didn't even graduate! How will you take care of Lo."

I said "You don't need to graduate in order to paint. I have my own businesses just like you guys. Thanks to Suga you guys have money."

My mother said "We didn't ask him for anything."

I said "But I did and paid him back."

My mother hissed and said "He asked for the money?!"

I said "He didn't take it back so I gave it to the cancer foundation."

My father said "You couldn't do that because it wasn't your money."

I said "He didn't want it."

Suga said "Why can't you guys just be happy with what she has done for others?"

My father said "She didn't graduate and is living as a sinner!"

Lo said "Not true! I live with them and we all sleep separately. Except Suga's parents."

My father said "The people here say your a sinner so if you both are going to be living together then get married!"

My mother said "No not until she graduates as an engineer."

I said "I won't graduate as a engineer because I'm already doing what I love. We're both rich and happy."

My mother said "Married and have a kid on the way."

I said "We're not married and if we're not married then their is no kid."

I paused for a second.

"Suga always has wanted to marry me but I always have told him no." I said.

My parents looked at eachother and then at Suga.

I felt so bad for saying that so direct but they were just driving me crazy.

Lo said "Suga proposed to you but you said no? Why?!"

I said "Mom and dad don't let me. They don't even want me with him in the first place."

My parents gasped and said "What?!"

My mother said "Don't bring me into this."

My father said "Don't be lying."

I said disgusted "Oh please don't act like you like koreans."

My father said "What I never said that."

"You don't have too!" I said.

Lo said "I heard you guys say racist things all the time."

My mother said "If you want to marry him then go ahead. You didn't even ask us to date him in the first place."

I said "You made me break up with him and I did! This whole time he's been my friend and when we left we left as a couple."

We all stayed silent a couple of seconds. I didn't even want cake as I was mad and felt disgusted.

My father said "Well, you better think twice before having a kid because it's not easy."

Lo laughed and said "Shes been my mom this whole time and I like her."

I wanted to melt as Lo said she liked me. I wish I could say the same about our parents but I didn't like them. How could I like two humans that didn't even like me.

My mother said "I'm your mother and only me!"

Lo got frightened and Suga saw.

Suga said "Well, we only stopped by for awhile because we still have to celebrate Lo's birthday."

I said "Yeah were going to Seaworld and it's sort of a long drive to get there."

Lo said "Yeah it was nice seeing you guys."

My parents said "Your leaving?! You can't just take Lo."

Lo said "I don't want to stay here anymore. I want to leave."

Lo went to go hold Suga's hand.

My father looked at there hands and didn't say nothing.

My mother said "Fine leave and never come back."

Lo said "What?!"

Suga said "Don't say that in front of Lo."

My mother said "I'm telling Moni to never come back."

I said "If Lo comes back I will too."

My mother said "If you come back pregnant and not married I will kill you!"

My father said "Calm down. She doesn't even like kids or knows how to do anything."

Suga said "Let's go Moni."

I said "Alright, let's go have fun."

My mother said "You won't! Only Lo will. You know what maybe both of you won't! Since you turned her against me!"

I said "What?! I did not!"

My mother said "Don't raise your voice at me!"

My throat began to hurt as memories started to fill up my mind.

"Bye." I said as I walked away with Suga and Lo.

My mother said "Are you walking away from me?!"

I said "We have to go to Seaworld."

My mother said "Just spend it here!"

"Lo doesn't want to bye!" I said before getting into the car.

We drove away and my lungs began to hurt. Tears covered my eye sight and I closed my eyes. I covered my face with my hat and laid back in my seat. "My lungs don't hurt." I repeatedly said this in my mind.

Lo said "I'm going to sleep too."

Lo fell asleep right away and I just starred into my hat.

Suga took my hat off my face and said "Breathe slower or you'll have a heart attack."

I didn't say anything and Suga turned on the radio. I digged in my bag for my inhaler and took in two deep breaths out of it.

"Relax Moni!" Suga said with a smile.

I looked out the window and just let my thoughts take over my brain.
