The ten minutes ride felt like a millennium to Cyn who was facing Victor's assault, and fear of getting caught in a self driven car, that she didn't even notice where they were going.
"We are here." He whispered into her ears. And finally, he reluctantly let her go back. But still her hand was tightly held by him.
Like the final spell was broken, She finally came out of her stupor and looked around with big bright eyes. Like a curious child her eyes sparkled and followed the movements around. So many stalls, shops, rides, dressed up people were near the river and the whole river was shining with lots of small fire earthenwares. And in the air many small fire lanterns were flowing. The whole place was illuminated with its brightness, like many mini suns.
Victor also became happy seeing her this escalated. "It's a lantern festival, It's celebrated during the start of winters, to pray to God for a good harvest. People light small earthenwares and paper lanterns by writing a wish in it.
I thought you would like it, I even asked Valerie to join us. So she will be here in some time." He replied scratching the back of his neck and praying in his heart that Valerie got caught in some work and wouldn't be able to join them.
"Wow, it's really beautiful Vic, this whole place is shining like stars. " she said, still happily looking around and moving forward holding his hands.
"But you are more beautiful." He said tugging her arms.
"Beautiful than stars?" She asked, raising a brow.
"Moon is more beautiful than the stars." He replied, shrugging his shoulders.
"Oh" she replied Keeping her face down, a bit of disappointment in her voice.
"But you are more beautiful than the moon." He whispered in her ears, tucking her hairs back on her ears, which brought a laughter on her face.
"Cheesy." She replied, shaking her head. She couldn't believe she was having this kind of foolish conversation, where she was comparing herself with stars and moon so seriously. Only thinking about this, she chuckled.
"Come let's eat something or do you want to play games before?" He asked her gently, moving her forward, and covering her from the crowd.
"Oh let's play some games until Valerie comes, then we can eat together." She replied looking around and spotting a dart game. "Come let's see who has better aim."
The game was simple five chances in three dollars you have to dart the balloons and the toy will be yours if you point three correct balloons.
"You are forgetting princess, I am the commander of knights. My aim is best in the empire." he said with a smug look.
"Second in command." She added, shaking her head. "and maybe you are also forgetting that we both have taken the training of archery together and I am no less than you." She replied pointing her chin high and looking eye to eye.
"So, Let's have a bet to see who will win. The winner can ask the loser anything." He asked with a provocative look.
"Anything?" She asked with enquiring eyes.
"Anything" He replied with a devilish grin.
"Fine then, but no cheating. I mean no powers." She said meaningfully.
"Of course princess, come." He dragged her to the payment corner and bought 50 darts each.
And so they started playing, each took a corner and started shooting from the corner to the center. The owner of the stall had a smile in the beginning, because hardly anyone had won the prize, darting aim was far and very few were able to aim correctly. But soon his smile turned into an ugly scowl, and then into silent tears, but lastly he couldn't control anymore. Because all the gifts were won by these two. Not a single one was left and these two abnormal beings were still taking the aims. None of them had lost a single aim like they were professionals. Each aim was shot to the point and perfect within seconds.
In Fact the guy, just to show off to her girl, even shot twice with closed eyes. Soon there was a crowd collected around them. People even started betting on both. Who will take more shots? while girls were looking at Victor with love struck, dreamy eyes, they had admiration for Cynthia also.
The owner could take it no more.So he started taking bets to earn some money. He knew people would bet on Victor more, but Cynthia is going to win. Maybe the crowd failed to notice, since both have made all shots perfect but his experienced eyes could see.
The girl was having difficulty in keeping up, she was struggling. So everyone would think that the boy will win. But what they didn't see was, the boy was not looking at aims but at the girl. His eyes were filled with worry. So he has slowed his speed. He was taking half aim only.
So in the end the girl would have more aims and she could win. He didn't lose aims, because it would be obvious that he had lost knowingly. 'lovestruck fool' he shook his head. Love could clearly be seen in his eyes. But there was not enough love in the girl's eyes.
He was definitely going to lose, not only in the game, but in life also. He laughed at his self examination, and started taking bets.
And just like he has thought, most people have put their bet on the boy. And when the balloons got finished, the boy had shot 99 while the girl had shot 101. He had just let her win with the least margin.
