It's been... I think 3 to 4 weeks since I was born, and there are just few things that I noticed.
It's wherever I am right now, I'm sure it's not the Philippines, nor the present time.
People around me are wearing something I could only see in paintings and books or on the museum in my past life. Everyone around me looks like... a person who lives in renaissance period... or is it medieval period?
I haven't gone outside the house or in this room since I was born, but base on the design of this room, it really looks like I'm in the old times. Other than that, it seems like this house, is big... really big.
The other weird thing is... I'm pretty sure this place isn't the Philippines, but how come I can understand their language?
I look at the girl in front of me with a bored face. She's trying to make me laugh, but I don't see anything funny on what she's doing.
"Baby Adi, please, smile?" She said pouting, almost sulking.
If I heard it right, they call her Quisquiliae (Kwiskwilya), which I don't know how to spell. She looks around nine to twelve years old, but it looks like she's already the one assigned to take care of me.
Quisquiliae is a little girl with a perfect tan skin. In the Philippines we call this skin, morena.
I might think that she's a Filipina if only she doesn't have a round and green eyes. Her brown straight hair that are long enough to touch her chest really suits the color of her skin and face shape. I can already see that she'll grew up to be a beautiful lady... if only she's not wearing something, if I remember correctly from what I've seen in the museum, is the cloths of the poor people in this period.
"Can you smile for me, just this once, please?"
She stop trying to make me laugh when she didn't see any reaction again. She put her elbow in my bed and leaned her chin in her palm... or maybe this is a crib?
"Baby Adi... I'm not sure, but maybe we can't see each other again after today," she said in a very sad voice, while holding my small hands.
I don't know why I'm holding her fingers though. It feels like it's my reflex, that's why I'm doing it.
"You're so adorable. Beautiful and kind baby. Why would they do this to you?"
I want to wrinkle my forehead with what she said, but that's really hard to do for a newborn baby, so I just remained silent and listened to what she's gonna say. But... she never talk again. She just remained silent and just look at me with that sad eyes of hers. Like she's sympathizing with me for something.
There's a long moment of silence inside the room, and then all of sudden she started talking again.
"Adira Mulier... you have a beautiful name. Do you know what that means?" She go back to her smiling face when she ask me that question. "Adira means 'strong', and Mulier means 'woman'... beautiful, isn't it?" She ask while playing with my small hands. "I think..." she look straight into my eyes. "Lady Decoris named you like that because she want you to grew up as a strong woman."
She then look away and realease my hand from her grasp. She look at the door as if she can see what's outside, and then heave a sigh.
"Do you wanna know what's the meaning of the name they gave me?" She uttered, dejected, while looking down. "Quisquiliae... trash... I'm just a trash they found in the dumpster. A poor human being with no parents or family," she unhappily said before looking at me. "We're not the same, but also the same..." and then she look at my eyes again as if she's sympathizing with me.
Trash? What kind of person would name a kid like that? Yes, maybe she was found in a dumpster, but why would they name a beautiful girl like that?
I felt sad for her for not having any parents nor friends, for not having someone you call a family and for being treated like a trash. I know how it feels to be alone in your own world. I know how it feels like, to get abandoned and be forsaken in your life.
I tried to reach for her face - which I did somehow - and smiled to comfort her.
She look at me with wide eyes. Her beautiful green eyes shined brightly as she look at me full of happiness.
"You smiled!" She blurted out, full of excitement. "Lady Adira, you smiled! You smiled at me!" She energetically voiced out and hold my small hand that's on her cheek
"Quisquiliae!" Someone shouted outside.
I was so surprise with that shout that I almost cried, while Quisquiliae turn her eyes to the door. Her smile were gone. You can see her disgusto with how that person called her.
"I'm coming," she shouted back before looking back at me. She leaned to my face before whispering, "I'll get you away of this place, Lady Adira. I'm not going to let them touch you. We'll run away. I promise," then she stood up, smiled at me again before turning away.
Get me away of this place? Not gonna let them touch me? Who? Why?
I felt sleepy while thinking of what is Quisquiliae's talking about, so, I closed my eyes and let myself to fall asleep.
This kid's body is really super annoying. Other than it gets tired so fast, and wanted to sleep a lot, it also has a lot of things it couldn't control. Like, getting hungry for like every hour. Farting, pooping, urinating. Seriously, I feel so bad for Quisquiliae every time I do this and that even though I can't control it. I also hate it that all I can do right now is lifting my hand and feet.
I thought getting out of that darkness would be good, but I guess I'm wrong, everything is still boring.
Speaking of darkness, ever since the day that I was born I haven't seen Decoris yet... or should I call her mother?
Newborn babies should drink from the milk of their mother, but I haven't done that ever since I was born here. Is it not a tradition here? Do they never do it here? Does not seeing your parents is also part of their tradition?
I only saw my mother that day. The day I was born to this world. I can't see clearly back then yet, and the person carrying me is a bit far from her so I can't really see her, but I know she's smiling. She's smiling at me.
A very tired and faint smile.
I suddenly woke up when someone lift me out of the bed. I was about to cry because other than it's so dark and I can't really see who's carrying me, it also surprised me and wake me up from my sleep - which is, you should never do to a baby who's having a nap - but then I heard that person shh-ing and patting me gently.
I don't know how, but I immediately recognize who it was.
It was Decoris... my mother.
Suddenly I felt comfortable and happy. I smiled at her and tried to reach her face. She smiled back at me and hold my little hands that was trying to reach her with her one hand that is carrying me.
"Don't make any noise, Adi. I'm getting you out of here," she whispered and smiled at me.
I smiled at her and nod. I can't talk so I just moved my head to tell her that I understand, but instead of getting out, she look at me with a bit of confusion.
"You understand?" I smiled at her and nod again which made her more confuse. She was about to ask something again but then we heard a noise outside. "We should get out of here, Adi."
She took my blanket in the bed and wrap it on me, the immediately run outside while carrying me.
I don't know what's happening, but my mother looks like she's getting me away of here without anyone knowing.
She's walking in the darkness while carrying me. I can't see the place because of the blanket, only my nose and mouth were out of the blanket so I can breath properly, but I'm sure that my mother is walking on a marbled floor and there were no lights.
She always stop before we turn, like she's always looking around before walking again.
"Just a one last straight walk, Adi. We'll be there," she whispered again.
We walk in a dark long hallway again, and then I heard a door opening up. My mother was about to hide again, but she stopped.
"Lady Harrisod."
"Ah... Lady Magnus, what took you so long? They're coming."
"I didn't took the faster route to get here. I think there's a lot of guard around there," my mother told her while handling me over to the girl she called Lady Harrisod.
I felt like my mother put something inside my blankets too, before kissing my forehead.
"Please, give her to Bonum. Save my daughter, Lady Harrisod."
"I will. Go back now, before they notice that you're not in your room," the girl my mother called Lady Harrisod told her.
I don't know how my mother responded to her.The next thing I know is that I felt her hands again in my face.
"I love you, Adi. Please, don't forget that," she whispered before kissing me again and the let me go, the next thing I heard were the sounds of steps moving away from me.
I heard the door closing and the step of the woman carrying me in this dark silence.
Wait! Why?
I wan to ask, but the only thing that came out of my mouth were 'Aa ee aa'.
Instead of going out of the door where she came from, we came back to the way where me and Decoris came from. A few moments later, I heard noises.
We're getting nearer to those noises.
Maybe, I don't understand what's happening around me right now, but I, at least know, that my mother is trying to get me out of this house and out of the sight of whoever those people are. I don't know anything, but I know what this woman is trying to do. She's trying to hand me over to those people that Quisquiliae is talking about, she's not getting me out of here.
I was about to start crying, 'cause for some reason, that's the only thing I could do when I'm getting upset or frustrated in a situation like this, when...
"What are you doing?" Someone ask from her back which made me stop from almost crying. I know that voice, it's Quisquiliae.
The girl that my mother called Lady Harrisod stopped from walking and look at her back.
"Oh, it's the trash," she said with a bitchy tone, which made me so annoyed. That's not how she used to talk to my mother a while ago. "I'm putting this thing on her right place. I'm giving her to them."
"What?!" I can't see Quisquiliae because of the blanket, but I know she's mad. I've never heard her mad before. "They'll kill her!"
I was stunned, I can't react much, but I really want to talk right now.
Kill me? Why?
"I know," the woman, Lady Harrisod said, as if she already knew and she doesn't care. "It's the right thing to do. This thing will only cause a trouble in Magnus. She have to die."
"She's still a Magnus, and she's the daughter of your friend!"
The woman, who's holding me, laugh like an insane woman for almost 20 seconds. Then all of sudden, she shouted.
"A Magnus with a filthy blood doesn't have the right to live! Just like how a trash like you need to die!"
And then...
I saw something... unbelievable.
The blanket is still blocking my view to see Quisquiliae, but I can see Lady Harrisod, and I saw how her blue eyes emits light, how the a spiky ice or a glass form around her and how it fly towards the direction of Quisquiliae.
A magic.
It's a magic that I can only see in anime's or movies, or read in books, manga's or light novel before.
What the hell?!
Where did I really got reborn to?
"Y-You!" I snap out of my thoughts when Lady Harrisod talk again. "You have already awakened!"
What happened?
I want to look but my hands is wrap in the blanket and I can't move much.
"Give Lady Adira to me!"
And then I heard something, I saw how Lady Harrisod fight with her ice and then... I don't know what happened next between them, but the next thing I knew to myself, is that I'm falling to the ground.
No! I just got born, a baby can't handle a fall in the ground with that height. If I fall, I'll break.
I'm going to die again!
I closed my eyes tightly and waited for the moment of my fall, but it never happened.
"You're safe now, Lady Adira."
I opened my eyes and I saw a shadow carrying me.
A freaking shadow.
I heard footsteps walking towards me and a few moments later, I saw Quisquiliae looking at me with a smile. Then, she look at the shadow holding me.
"I command you to get that baby away from here and leave it in front of Master Bonum's house, Umbra," she said with full of authority to the shadow. "And you, Sirpe, take care of that woman," she turned to somewhere and point to something, which I think, Lady Harrisod, and then she look back at me. "Lady Adira, I'm not sure if we'll see each other again. I'm just a trash in this place, so I'm not sure what they'll do to me with what I did today," she smiled bitterly at me. "But I promise, I'll do everything I can to see you again and make sure that you're alright."
She touched my face anf look straight into my eyes. I was amazed, for some reason, I can see a love and sincerity from her eyes.
"I'll think of you as my lady until my last breath. This servant of you loves you so much, Lady Adira," she leaned on me and kiss my forehead.
After kissing my forehead, she look at shadow that is holding me.
"Leave! Now!"
