Leaving

The rest of the summer days just dragged on and blurred together. It was the same thing day after day. Remy would do something with his friends, which of course, was fun, but he just couldn't focus or bring himself to care about anything they were doing. Then, he'd go home and pack a few things, have dinner with his parents, and watch TV. All he really wanted was to be at college, and he felt like the days were just something he had to endure. It was a weird change of pace for Remy to want summer to end so that he could go to school. No one wants that. But obviously, he wasn't going for the education.

Remy's life had been pretty boring. And he was very aware of that. But then that night changed all of that. And now, he wasn't going to let the most exciting thing to ever happen to him slip through his fingers.

Finally, finally, after so much waiting and anticipation and anxiety, the day had arrived. The day where Remy would go off to college. When he had all his stuff packed and ready to go in the car, he took one last look at his old room before walking out, feeling insanely good. He felt happy, like he was moving on in his life. And since his current life wasn't anything special, moving on was good.

The drive made Remy feel very sentimental about his hometown. He didn't feel sad about leaving, but he had grown up there, so it meant a lot to him. It's like a distant family member that you have to love unconditionally. As they left the state of Wisconsin, Remy said one last goodbye, even though he knew he'd be back sometime, and probably soon. He got settled in for the long drive ahead of them as his mom drove with his dad in the passenger seat, all of them listening and singing along to the '80s station that was playing, enjoying each other's company, knowing it might be some time before they'd be able to do it again.
