Remy spent a lot of time with Landon, Renee, and Emmitt. So much time that, if he had a lot of homework to do, he'd be up until about 2 AM to finish it. He didn't mind, though. In fact, he figured that with his normal procrastination rate, he was actually ahead of his usual time frame for getting things done. He often compared this new friend group to ones he had before. And never had he been this close with any of the previous ones. But maybe that was because middle school and high school were just bullshit. Just a bunch of people trying to fit in somewhere, creating drama, and being fake. Except, Remy's old friend group wasn't like that. It was pretty much the opposite. They didn't really show any emotion, not enough to create drama, at least. They had fun together, but no matter how much time they spent, they never seemed to grow any closer.
But now he was in college. And things were different. Absolutely, completely different. And it was incredible. He was finally out of the rut that was his earlier teenage years, where nothing was happening and he wasn't going anywhere. He's pretty sure now that the year off he was going to take would have been bad for him. It wouldn't have been productive or helpful in any way. Remy found himself thinking about fate again. About how some things are just meant to happen. About how people could be anywhere at any time, but somehow he happened to be on the other side of that tree, and somehow that was the one where he heard Landon and Renee. But thinking about all that made him feel weird, like maybe he wasn't actually in control of anything he did (which watching Black Mirror did not help with), so he tried not to think about it too often.
Thanksgiving was coming up, and Remy was about to visit his parents for the first time. They told him to stay at college for at least a month before coming home, but he became so comfortable there, he didn't feel the need to visit. Which helped money-wise. They still called every once in a while, which was nice. But Remy noticed that he didn't miss them as much as he thought he would. And he felt bad about that, but he figured he just preferred living on his own.
It had been a week since Remy's last "incident" with Emmitt, and they still hadn't talked about it. For one thing, Landon and Renee were always with them, and it was kind of a private matter. But Remy also didn't feel like having the same conversation again. If it happened again, it happened again. So what?
