Chapter 5

Summer's POV

"Good morning, Summer." Andre from HR greeted as I entered the company on Friday morning.

"Morning." I smiled at him and many more people who greeted me as I made my way to my office.

The door to my office slid open and I entered. Alex was already on his seat, working on the company's computer.

"Morning." I smiled at him when he finally looked up. He just nodded with his signature cold and bored look. I ignored his attitude and made my way to my own office and took a seat behind my desk.

Some minutes later, Alex came into my office and I noticed that he looked like he hadn't slept much last night, which brought up so many questions, none of which I asked him.

"We should go over the file for that new mall I'm going to be attending to this weekend. You are not going to be there and I don't want a situation whereby things get too much for me to handle." He said while taking a seat in front of me.

"The idea and everything you will need are already in that file, there is nothing left for us to do." I said without looking up. The next thing that happened surprised as well as annoyed me. He snapped my laptop shut and glared at me. Well excuse me, I was the boss and he had no right to do that.

"What was that for?" I matched his expression too, glaring at him so hard, all the muscles in my face were starting to protest.

"You are not going to ignore me." He said, his voice so cold, it made a shiver run up my spine. Wow, the man really needed to relax.

"I can do whatever I want in my company and you had no right to manhandle any of my personal properties like that." I used my most grave tone too but his expression made it so clear it had no effect on him and I didn't know why but, that drove me so crazy.

"Whatever, I can handle it by myself." He said before standing up and storming out of my office.

I glared at his back until he disappeared behind the door. I felt so bothered that he could get to me like that. No man had been able to do that to me since Nathan and he was past tense now. I got back to my work after some minutes of sitting in frustration. Why wasn't I firing him yet?

Alex's POV

Two weeks. Only two fucking weeks and she could already drive me so crazy, so mad. That was what I thought of after storming out of her office and taking my seat back. Last night made me feel so disoriented. I ndidn't like anything that happened. What was that shit with her straddling me and trying to kiss me? What pissed me off even more was that I'd gone to her office just to talk to her, not to talk about some boring file. I was really good at my job and I didn't need any help to deal with it. But then, she went ahead and ignored me like I wasn't even talking to her and I didn't think when I snapped her laptop shut. I expected her to fire me immediately but she had just glared at me. It was a good thing that she wasn't going to be around that weekend, not that it would have made any difference to me.

Last night, I'd been working with Nate, my kind of friend, who was in LA, trying to track him down. I stayed up late and even when I finally got to bed, I barely got 2 hours of sleep before the alarm was ringing. It made me even crankier than I normally was. I knew I was going to have to apologize to Summer, she was my boss afterall.

Summer's POV

"Do you have any plans after work closes?" I looked up not because I didn't know who was talking but I looked up because of surprise from what the person asked.

"No." I said looking up at Alex suspiciously.

"You want to go out with me?" What?

"Hmm…"

"You heard me." He snapped. Snapped? How was he still snapping at me even though he was asking me to go out with him?

"No." I wasn't going to just go on a date with him. What made me uncomfortable was the reason wasn't that he worked for me but that he was still being rude.

"Just go home after work, wear something comfortable and meet me here by seven." He said and walked out of my office. What was wrong with him? He couldn't just talk to me like that. I said no.

After finishing for the day, I went home. I had three hours before 7 but I hadn't even told him yes, he just assumed I was going to meet him back at the office. I showered and changed to white shorts and a huge black shirt. I wasn't planning to go anywhere with him. I headed back downstairs to hang out with Rosalia.

"How your day today?" Rosalia asked as I took a seat at the kitchen island. She had just been sitting there going through a magazine. I never understood why she liked to stay in the kitchen so much. The living room was right there.

"It was work Rosalia." I said. Not that I didn't love my job or anything but it was still work.

"You look like something happened." She pointed out. I forgot how she knew me so much since she had been with me since forever.

"Well, I have this new PA. His name is Alex." I started.

"What did this one say or do now?" She knew all about my ex-Pas.

"Well, this one is… different." She scooted closer at that.

"How so?"

"Well, he is rude and moody and cold and annoying." I rambled. "And the stupid thing is I don't have a reason to fire him. It's like he is doing the wrong thing but not enough to get himself fired."

Rosalia tilted her head at me with a suspicious but sly look on her face. "Don't give me that look." I whined.

"What did he do today?" She asked.

"Well he slammed my laptop shut while I was working on it and then asked me to go out with him." I explained shortly. I swore he was bipolar.

"So what did you say?"

"No." Of course I said no. What else did she expect me to say? There wasn't any other option. I mean there was but it was inconsiderable. I couldn't even think of saying it.

"Does this have anything to do with Nathan? If it does…" She started.

"No Rosalia, it's not about Nathan. I think." I mumbled and my thoughts started to stray but I shook my head. "Even though I said no, he still told me to meet him." She stayed quiet.

"What's the time?" I asked.

"6:30." That was enough time. I could as well go. What was the worse that could happen anyway? I stood and rushed upstairs to my room.

I changed to blue jeans, a white top and blue Jordans and topped it with a black leather jacket. Casual. I didn't bother with make up and just let my hair down.

"Well, are you going to tell me where you are rushing off to?" Rosalia stopped me with a smile as I started to rush out.

"Alex."

"How do I look?" I asked and she smiled before nodding her head vigorously in approval.

"Thanks, I don't know when I will be back, so goodnight." I said before hugging her and rushing out to the garage. I chose to take one of the black Porsches.

When I got to the office, it was 7:10 so I was surprised to see him resting against the wall outside the building in dark jeans and zipped up dark blue hoodie that made his steel blue eyes stand out. He didn't move even though I knew he saw me so I had to get out of the car and walk to him.

"You are still here." I said as I approached him. Up close he looked so dangerous and ruthless.

"I knew you would come." He said making me raise my eyebrow at him in question.

"One thing people like you know is that it's rude to stand someone up." He shrugged. What did he even mean by that?

"People like me?"

He didn't offer any explanation as he leaned away from the wall and started to walk towards my car. I followed. When we reached my car, I got in the driver's seat and waited for him to get in but he didn't.

"You gonna come in or what?" I asked him. He answered by getting into the car without opening the door. He just placed is hands on it and jumped over. Show off.

"So, porsche?" He raised his eyebrow at me. "I have seen you with three different cars for the little time that I have known you. How rich are you?"

"You tell me."

"I should take the wheel. I am the one that knows where we are going." He said. I was starting to think I shouldn't have come. He didn't even look the least bit interested in the date, if that was what it even was.

"I don't let just anyone to touch my car, so you should feel honoured." I said getting down and going around to the passenger side.

"I'm not just anyone." He said stepping out as I got to the passenger side.

He stood blocking the way in a somewhat threatening stance. "I still don't know you." I replied before pushing him aside and settling down on the passenger's seat. He went around the car and got in the driver's seat.

"So are you going to tell me where we are going?" I asked but as I already knew, he didn't reply.

About twenty minutes later, I heard the noise before I saw it. We were at a park, at a carnival and I turned my head to Alex as he parked the car.

"A carnival?" I asked.

"I don't care if you don't like it. It's just to ap..pologize for manhandling your laptop." His face scrunched up as he said the word 'apologize' like it sounded bitter.

"Awesome. Come on." I said with genuine excitement as I jumped down from the car and he got down too. Even though I went to the club every night and there was always a new guy to mess with and make my night fun, it wasn't as interesting anymore. I genuinely liked where he brought me even though he was being his usual detached self about it. The carnival looked pretty impressive with so many rides, lights, colors and people everywhere.

I pointed at a ride, "That ride looks scary, let's go." I shouted over the noise and started rushing towards it, not caring to see if he was following.

A few hours and many rides I had to force him on later, Alex and I are sitting on a bench at one of the darker more quiet parts of the park. He had been totally annoying and unbearable on all the rides. Complaining about people screaming like chicken and not laughing or shouting with me as the adrenaline rush came.

"I am hungry." I said after sitting in silence for a while.

"I saw some food stands on the other side of the park." He said without making any move.

"And you are going to make me go all by myself?" Not that I couldn't but still. I thought he was just going to say yes and I would have had to go on my own but he surprised me by sighing and getting up. I stood too and we walked to the other side. He paid for the chicken and soda I got. I also made him buy me cotton candy. I could have paid for it myself but what would have been the fun in that?

We picked another bench and sat to eat. He was been so quiet. Even though he was always moody, he still always asked questions or have something offensive to say.

"Now, you win me something." I said and he immediately started to decline but I didn't waste anytime. I just pulled him to one of the stands. This one had a basketball hoop.

"I want that one." I said to the man at the stand, pointing to a stuffed hedgehog. Its relatedness to the broody guy beside me was not so much but it was closer than any of the others. Its stiff spines could be related to the prickly attitude Alex has.

"A dollar and you have to get three out of five balls through the net to get that." He said and I turned to Alex.

He gave the man the money and positioned himself. He threw the first ball and it entered so did the remaining four balls. Well, something he was good at aside from being grumpy.

"Did you play basketball anytime in your life?" I asked as we moved on. He looked like he wasn't going to answer but seemed to realise how harmless the question was.

"Yeah in highschool."

"How old are you?" I asked just to push him further.

"Do you have to ask questions?" He asked irritably. I was getting to his prickliness.

"How old are you?" I asked again just to annoy him.

"34." He answered shortly.

"32. Month?"

"January." He grumbled. I didn't care how as long as he was asnwering.

"March. Day?" He scowled at me but answered. His birthday was New Year's Day. I didn't bother to tell him mine and he didn't ask. Suddenly, I decided to annoy him even more.

"So, what's your story?" he stopped walking and turned with a livid look.

"No." He growled.

"No what?" I asked with an innocent smile.

"You should go home."

"Nah, I think I will hang around for a little while." I said and he started to say something but stopped as a yawn escaped my lips. He gave me a smug look and his lips lifted ever so slightly. His lips… Nope! Nope! Get your head out now.

"I will see you on Monday." He said.

"I'm driving you home." I said eyeing him.

"No." He said sharply.

"I don't care, I am driving you home, it's late and you won't be any use to me dead." I rolled my eyes at him.

"No."

"Why? You live in a shithole?" I asked with a smirk but he just glared at me even more. Okay, not funny. Got it.

"I don't see any cab around. Stop being difficult and get in the car." I said and relaxed when he sighed and didn't argue as he followed me to the car.

"Address?" I asked when we had settled in the car.

He didn't answer, just pressed it into the GPS and I followed until I pulled up in front of an apartment building downtown. It was almost the same distance from my place to the company, just in the other direction.

"Goodnight." He said and cleared out. I was even surprised he said anything.

"Goodnight." I muttered to myself. My mind replayed the night and somehow just zoomed in on his reaction when I asked him about his story. I had always been a curious person and I wanted to know why he reacted that way. What could have being so bad?

ALEX'S POV

I didn't want her getting caught up in my shit. I was used to been alone and closed-off and I wasn't ready for any of that to change. I was never going to be ready. I didn't even think about calling her during the weekend until she didn't come back on Monday that she was supposed to come back, which pissed me off. So, I called her on Wednesday.
