Swore on Heaven's Name 2

"My Lord!"

Ren Yupei was dumbfounded at the Lord's sudden excuse. He, seducing a thirteenth years old girl? What was he, a pedophile?!

Moreover, The Lord had asked him to swear on Heaven's name! It was a sacred oath that if one had broken it, one would instantly be punished by heavenly lightning for 49 days straight. It was a cruel torture that no one could ever endure.

Did he really look that suspicious?!

Ren Yupei solemnly lifted three fingers and said every words loudly. "I, Ren Yupei, swear on the Heaven's name that I have never and will never seduce The Princess in my life!"

In a flash, a light was shimmering beneath the ground he kneeled on as it gathered into his forehead and disappear slowly. The room returned to its messy state before.

No heavenly lightning, no streaks of light on the sky, nothing.

It means that Ren Yupei was indeed innocent.

Wang Ze sighed as he realized that he was indeed a little excessive. "Okay, then. You are—"

Before he could say the word 'excused', suddenly—

BOOM!

A loud sound of lightning strike the ground nearby was heard.

Ren Yupei's soul almost flew away from his body.

Wang Ze's eyes shone with cruelness and hatred. "YOU—"

"My Lord! My Lord! Wait!" Ren Yupei cried out desperately as he felt his heart sank to his stomach. "It's a coincidence ah! It is merely a coincidence! The weather has been cloudy since afternoon and it is natural that rain will fall tonight."

No sooner that the words had fallen from his mouth, a drizzle of soft rain arrived alongside the whistling sound of wind and a few streaks of soundless lightning, illuminating the Lord's face occasionally. His silent and still figure was akin to a grim reaper ready for action.

Ren Yupei didn't dare to raise his head as he felt his heart slowly crawled back from his stomach back to his chest. He was right, though. It was a normal rain, nothing like the majestic heavenly lightning.

He breathed a sigh of relief.

The Lord conceded, this time. But he still wasn't satisfied if he didn't teach Ren Yupei a lesson he would never forget.

"You are excused this time."

Ren Yupei smiled brightly. "Thank you for your—"

"But This Lord has a task that he know only you will accomplish. Receive the Imperial Edict."

Ren Yupei's words of gratitude got stuck on his throat. It couldn't be said, nor could it be swallowed back. He choked and lost his breath for a moment. He looked suffocated as his face changed color from ashy white to green and blue before it settled on a greenish hue.

A task only he could accomplish? My Lord! Can you give a better excuse to hand out your punishment? Am I not innocent here? Why am I getting punished?!

Yet he could do nothing but nodded in submission. "This subordinate gladly received."

"This Lord has heard of the Ghost Town's rumors. It's said that the town has been haunted by evil ghosts and many of our citizens had died with resentment. Go and investigate what happened there, don't come back before you get any evidence!"

Ren Yupei discreetly took a very, very deep breath to calm his high blood pressure. This was clearly the job of the shadow guards ah! But he, a minister, had been given this task. If it's not punishment, what could it be?

"Yes, My Lord! When will I go? Next week?"

"You will depart tomorrow at dawn before the sun arises."

"What?!" Ren Yupei exclaimed in shock. "Tomorrow? But the preparation—"

Wang Ze waved his hand and dismissed him. "Fret not. All you need will be prepared by tomorrow. What?" He eyed the man fidgeting in front of him suspiciously. "You have something you need to do?"

Aiyah, what should he do? He had promised The Princess to accompany her for shopping her thirteenth birthday's present the day after tomorrow ah! But then, if he admit the truth to the Lord…Ren Yupei gulped and shook his head. "Nothing, My Lord."

"Good." Wang Ze harrumphed and sneered mockingly. You think This Lord will give you another chance to meet Qing'er? In your dreams! "Go back and prepare yourself. It will be a tough journey to the north."

If Ren Yupei had known what was in The Lord's mind and how childish it was, he would surely cried river of tears and fought for his innocence. He never did anything wrong ah! Fortunately, the Lord's serious look had given him away.

Ren Yupei was helpless yet there was nothing he could do. In the end, he sighed and kneeled respectfully. "Yes, My Lord."

While walking out, his mind was full on how he could beg the Princess' forgiveness.

They had made the promise last month.

The Princess would be so disappointed…
