The man's body weighed down on her to the point where she was almost suffocated. At that moment, Ren Yupei placed his nose onto her neck, the place where her blood flow the warmest. He sniffed and his body turned rigid.
Ouyang Xueqing yelped when he suddenly shoved her away so hard that she skidded across the floor and grimaced in pain.
Ren Yupei's crazed eyes glared at her, the red dot within them was glowing akin to devils. "Not Little Song…you're not Little Song…"
Despite the burn traveling from her shoulder to her arm, Ouyang Xueqing braced herself up and tried to wake him again. She cried out. "Ren Yupei!" If it's the usual Ren Yupei, he would know that Ouyang Xueqing only call him by his name when she's mad, or scared.
In this case, it was the latter though. She was terrified by the figure of the man that was so familiar yet foreign at the same time. His built towering against her as he stood and glanced down at her as if she was some kind of bug that wasn't worthy of his attention.
Those eyes, the eyes that had always filled with warmth and gentleness now vanished. The coldness and murderous intent within them was sending shiver down her spine and her skin crawled. Alarms was ringing inside her head.
She knew that he was dangerous right now, but being stared by those unfeeling eyes, Ouyang Xueqing found herself frozen in place.
She could have retaliated by using her life-saving talisman, but she knew the damage those talismans could cause. If she used it on him, he would surely get injured. He was sick now, if she used those against him and aggravated his condition, what should she do?
Staring at the man's face, Ouyang Xueqing felt her eyes burn and she blinked the tears away. The hand that had halfway lunged into her sleeve slipped down. As he gazed at the man's approaching footsteps, she chose to give herself one more chance. "Brother Ren! Wake up, I am Ouyang Xueqing!"
Alas, her words were like air failed to get through him. He frowned in disgust. "Where is Little Song?"
With trembling calf, she stood up. Even then, she looked like a harmless rabbit in the face of roaring tiger. "I—I don't know."
"You don't know?!" He growled. "Don't lie! Did you do something to her?!"
Ouyang Xueqing flinched at the man's harsh tone and her eyes blurred with unshed tears. Despite being scared, she was even sadder at his maniacal state. She bit her lips and whispered. "She…isn't here, Brother Ren…" Even though it hurt, she still had to tell him the truth.
Hearing her answer made his eyes reflected with bleak and despair. The rims of his eyes reddened as fragments of scenes flashed through his mind and filled his head with turmoil. "No, no." He murmured in disbelief. "It's not possible!" He clutched his head and crouched down in pain.
Ouyang Xueqing shot forward and support him. "Are you okay?!"
"No!" He hollered and brushed her away. His strength imbued with spiritual energy which had ran havoc was more than what she could have handled. She crashed against the wall and slumped down. Blood trickled down her mouth.
Ren Yupei fell deeper into his nightmares as he staggered and grasped his head. "You…you killed her!" His head snapped toward her and a reddish blue spiritual energy ball form on his hand. "I will take my revenge!"
Ouyang Xueqing clutched her chest and coughed. Her whole body prickled in pain and she struggled to avoid the attack. She had totally forgotten that there was supposed to be two guards standing outside. They had made such a loud noise, yet nobody had noticed anything. She didn't have time to think that something was wrong when faced with such a strong spiritual energy that it could blew the whole room apart.
She gritted her teeth and finally decided to pull out a talisman. But before she could yell out a spell, he had arrived in front of her in the blink of an eye. Ouyang Xueqing's eyes bulged out. Such fast! She had never seen anyone with that speed before.
He grabbed her by her neck and lift her easily. Her feet dangling on air and she swung them to kick him in a feat of struggle. Ouyang Xueqing gasped heavily as her airway was blocked. Tears streamed down her face and blue veins protruding from her neck as she gurgled. "R—Ren…"
He inserted more strength on his fingers and Ouyang Xueqing's head started buzzing and her sight was dotted in black. She clawed the man's hand, leaving a trail of wound on his skin, yet he didn't seem to notice. His eyes blazed in hatred and his jaw tightened.
With just a snap, he could easily break her neck right there and then.
Strength started to seep out from her as her limbs fell down on her sides. Her chest felt like it was lit in furnace and her strife to catch a breath turned futile.
When she thought that she was done for sure, suddenly, there was a gush of wind caressing her hair and the sound of glass breaking.
"What the hell?!" As the man's voice fell, Ren Yupei was kicked away from her body and his strangle loosened. Ouyang Xueqing collapsed instantly and coughed heavily as she hold her stinging neck. It took her a few seconds to regain her senses, and when she came to, she saw An Zhengnan's wide back from her blurry eyes.
"Princess!" He yelled without averting his gaze from Ren Yupei. "Are you okay?!"
Ouyang Xueqing choked on her breath and answered weakly. "I—I'm okay…"
Seeing her pathetic state and the skin around her neck bruised in ugly purplish blue, An Zhengnan's pupils constricted and he gritted his teeth. "REN YUPEI!" He bellowed in rage. "How dare you?!"
The wind around him turned chaotic as an animalistic growl escaped his throat. His eyes turned onto crimson slits and his nails sharpened into sharp claws. He dashed forward and choked him exactly the same way as he had done her a few seconds ago.
Nobody except him knew how he felt when he received news that the Princess had been spending hours inside Ren Yupei's room. He had decided to care less, but in the end, he succumbed to temptation and decided to sneak a peek just for a second to see what they're doing.
Alas, he was greeted by this unexpected surprise.
He was grateful from the bottom of his heart. If he hadn't gone to observe from the window, what could have happened to her? His fangs grew as he brushed the terrifying thoughts away. Nothing could happen to her, not on his watch!
Ren Yupei retaliated by punching him on the stomach, at the same time his leg imbued with spiritual energy aimed at An Zhengnan's shin. He dodged and landed swiftly by Ouyang Xueqing's side. Without any word, he lifted her easily and carried her out of the window. She exclaimed in shock. "Zhengnan, how about him?!"
He glanced sideways at her, but his feet agilely danced across the roof and paced ahead. "Your safety is my priority."
Her arms snaked around his neck as the wind slapped against her cheek and ruffled her hair. What happened just now shook her for sure, and now, when she was safe and secured, fear began to dawn on her and her fingertips trembled.
"Don't be scared." She couldn't look at his face because of the howling wind. "I am here."
Ouyang Xueqing nodded. She tightened her hold on him and sobbed. "He…isn't Brother Ren."
He grunted in a low voice.
"I don't know what happen to him. He doesn't recognize me anymore. He kept on searching for Little Song."
"Little Song?"
"The girl he liked."
When he didn't answer, Ouyang Xueqing continued. "I don't know who she is, but I feel like something happened between them and they separated. He only search for her, and he accuse me of killing her." Her voice ended in a whisper. "He wants to kill me."
