The night before Ouyang Xueqing's departure, they held a small gathering in the General's Manor as they ate dinner together and chatted merrily. Sadly, she couldn't say her farewell to Ouyang Chunxia as he had travelled across the region to open his new branch market.
It was a heart-warming dinner of her, Ouyang Feiyang and Xia Wei. As they sat under the moonlight, Ouyang Xueqing relished on the sight of her family as she felt the warmth of love on her chest. Toward the end of the dinner, it was only her and Ouyang Feiyang remained while Xia Wei had bid them goodnight.
Ouyang Feiyang was a little drunk as he told Ouyang Xueqing about his experience in war before the Beast Mainland was founded.
"You can't imagine, Qing'er, how we fought tooth and nails against those wicked humans. Don't ever spare them any mercy if you ever met one."
Ouyang Xueqing scratched her nose and laughed awkwardly. What would be his reaction if he knew that she was going to human's mainland? He would surely puked out blood.
Now that she thought of it, she decided to ask further. "Grandpa, I heard that you fought in the Great War, how did it felt like?."
Ouyang Feiyang's eyes were glazed as he reminisced. "Of course, that was the biggest battle I've ever participate in."
"How was it? Do you met Sheng Li? Or the four generals? Qing'er only knew that they exist from the legend but haven't heard anything about them after that."
"Hmm." He gulped down his wine and burped. "They exist, indeed. The fact was, this old man had even faced one of them before."
"Really?" Her blood sang in excitement as she poured him more drink. "Who was that? Grandpa was so cool to have face them!"
"It's one of the four generals, Undead. You have heard of her, right?"
Ouyang Xueqing nodded. "He was said to possess an immortal body that could still be alive after being chopped to pieces. Wait a minute." She raised her eyebrows in surprise. "He is a 'she'?"
"That's right." He slurred. "The rumor had really lived up to her name. I saw it with my own eyes, even if her limbs were cut, they really grew back. And the point that no one had mentioned before was, she was a beautiful, very beautiful and young woman."
Ouyang Xueqing's eyes opened as wide as saucers. "A beautiful young woman?"
"Yes." Words poured out of his mouth as his mind travelled back to the battlefield a thousand years ago. "A young woman in the middle of the battlefield, the flame that was dancing in her eyes, the playful smirk on her lips, it was so eye-catching and didn't fit in at all, but strangely she provoked fear from every one of us.."
"Then, then, do you met the other? Shark Eye, Venom Crown, Thousand Form? What about Sheng Li himself?"
"Nah." He swung his bottle of wine around. "Our area, at least the area in which I was stationed in was infiltrated by the Undead."
"I see. She pondered for a moment. "Then, how could you make it out alive?" Well, that was what she was waiting for. Being able to return alive after meeting one of the Sheng Li's four generals, how amazing was it?
Ouyang Feiyang sighed. "Qing'er, it's not me that returned alive."
She blinked in confusion. "What?"
"I mean, the four generals, they had never meant to harm us at all. The worst they could do was beat us until we couldn't get up anymore, but they didn't kill us. Sheng Li ordered it himself, because he had hated blood and violence."
"Huh?" She frowned. "Isn't war all about blood and violence?"
"Yeah, at least that's what we thought about. But Sheng Li was different. He never liked war, and the only reason he took the matter into his own hands was to stop the war."
Suddenly, Ouyang Xueqing remembered what Furball had said about the Supreme Emperor. A gloomy brat with an aura of melancholy around him just like a heartbroken man. She pictured the image of an aloof and expressionless man who had the strongest power on earth, yet didn't abuse that power at all. What was on his mind? Why did he had that kind of sadness surrounding him?
Ouyang Xueqing was so curious.
Unfortunately, she couldn't find any information about Sheng Li at all. Because the man was originally secluded and didn't like crowd. Even the only time they could see him was at The Great War.
"The only reason I was said to be the one returned alive after facing one of the four generals was because everyone around me was killed, not by the Undead, but humans." At that moment, Ouyang Feiyang's eyes reddened as if he was recalling something heart-wrenching. "The humans, they didn't spare any kind of foul methods to kill us. They are wicked, evil and malicious."
Ouyang Xueqing gulped nervously. It was not once or twice she had heard of the human's reputation among the beasts, and none was good. She was set to depart tomorrow, and the rumor just making her feel more nervous than ever.
"The only thing I'm grateful about The Great War was I met your grandma there."
Ouyang Xueqing's eyes brightened. "Grandma?! She was in the army?!" The only thing Ouyang Xueqing remembered about her grandma was how she had cuddled her when she was young. Her grandma had passed away when she was one year old, that's why her image in Ouyang Xueqing's mind was blurry.
"Yes, she was a valiant and brave soldier." Ouyang Feiyang's eyes were filled with gentleness as he began to tell his story. "We met at the soldier camp. At that time, she was paralyzed by the Shark Eye."
"Shark Eye?" She gasped. "Wasn't they said that he has the eyes that could kill?"
"That's right." He nodded. "When they carried your grandma to the camp, she was already hanging on her last breath and her whole body was paralyzed. And then, I don't know why, but I felt the need to save her." Ouyang Feiyang's attributes was earth, and that enabled him to heal wounds using his own spiritual energy. He often treated her too since she was often injured by her bad luck.
Ouyang Xueqing squealed. "And then, the two of you fell in love after that?"
"Yeah." He grinned sheepishly. "After knowing that I had saved her life, she confessed to me and we got married after The Great War ended. Sadly, because of the aftereffect, her body had been weak since then and she was gone so fast."
"Grandpa…" Ouyang Xueqing clasped the old man's hand. It felt warm and rough, and she loved it very much. "I'm sure Grandma loved you very much until her last breath."
"You think so?" He pursed his lips, yet his eyes danced in joy and happiness.
"Yeah, I'm sure," She beamed.
