When morning came everybody was already up early, except Nuka he was still sleeping because she stayed up too late. They heard a car outside of the house; they all looked out the window and ran outside.
"Mother," White Hawk said in excitement!
"Oh I've missed my boys," smiled Angel hugging White Hawk.
"Mom, we've missed you too," said Big Ben hugging her.
Running Water stepped outside and walked towards her; they both looked at each other for a long time and smiled. Running Water wrapped his arms around hers and brought her inside the house to eat breakfast. White Hawk went and woke Nuka up.
"Hey, brother, mom is here you stayed up too late last night didn't you," smiled White Hawk.
"Yes," Nuka rubbing his eyes from sleep.
He jumped up out of bed and ran out into the kitchen with his pajamas on and wild hair.
"Mom," ran Nuka with excitement!
"Nuka," smiled Angel.
"Are you here to stay for good?" asked Nuka.
"No more, my boss said I can do my work from the house and send it through the mail," smiled Angel.
"Sounds good to me," smiled Nuka.
As they were eating, they had a lot of stories to tell her. So they told their stories. When they were finished the boys helped Running Water cleanup and go to White Clay grocery store on the edge of Nebraska and pine ridge.
As they drove to White Clay White Hawk was seeing the shadow figure again as he was looking out the window. He just shook his head and the figure went away.
They arrived at the grocery store and went inside. White Hawk was looking at things, he happened to look out the store window and saw the figure across the street, and then he saw Jimmy walking over and came inside. White Hawk turned and BAM! There was the shadowy figure standing right in front of him, it startled him a bit. White Hawk closed his eyes and then opened them, the figure was gone and then he saw Jimmy.
"Tokhesk he ya un he kola" (how are you friend)?" asked White Hawk.
"Washte" (good)," said Jimmy.
"What are you doing?" asked White Hawk.
"Shopping, what are you doing?" asked Jimmy.
"Nothing just waiting on my mom to get done shopping as well," said White Hawk.
So they sat down on the wooden steps of the store and started talking.
"You know, it's really good to be back in Pine Ridge, all my friends are here, I even grew up here with you. I'm glad I came back," said Jimmy.
"Me too "kola" (friend)," said White Hawk.
"White Hawk?" asked Jimmy.
"Yeah," said White Hawk.
"We're friends, right?" asked Jimmy.
"More than friends Jimmy were brothers," said White Hawk smiling.
"Yeah, brothers, nothing can come between us, we'll always be best friends, forever, brothers forever," said Jimmy.
"That's right, nothing is going to change that, nothing, brothers for life," said White Hawk.
They both looked out into the open fields. White Hawk saw the shadowy figure again and was in danger, and then he looked at Jimmy and back at the shadow figure.
"Uh, I got to go, I'll see you later," said White Hawk quickly getting up and going inside the store.
Jimmy just stared and watched him quickly go inside.
"Jimmy," Shouted mother!
He walked over and they got into the car and they went back to pine ridge as did White Hawk and his family. The next day they drove out of town and came to a convenience store outside of the reservation.
"What are you doing here?" asked the storekeeper.
They were off the reservation they were on a trip and they stopped at the store.
"Just looking, I'm getting a few things," Running Water said while getting a few things off the shelf.
"Well we don't serve your kind here, so get lost," the storekeeper said in a rude voice.
"I'll go to a different store where they do serve my kind," Running Water said in a polite voice.
"You go do that," said the storekeeper.
So he left the store and saw his wife Angel, walking up towards him.
"Did you buy anything?" Angel asked.
"No he wouldn't let me, he doesn't serve my kind," Running Water said in a troubled voice.
"Dad this is not right, I thought things have changed?" asked White Hawk.
"I know son, but the whites today are the same as they were long ago," Running Water said as he was starting the car.
"Let's go home," Angel said buckling herself in.
As they arrived back on the reservation they drove up to the driveway and went inside the house. They sat down and started to watch television. Then there was a knock at the door.
"Who is it?" asked Running Water.
"It's me, Jimmy," Jimmy looking through the screen door.
"Haw kola" (hello friend) what brings you to hear?" Running Water asked in the Lakota language.
"Nothing just stopped by to say hello, and ask how your trip was," said Jimmy.
"Haw kola, toeke ya un he" (hello friend, how are you)?" White Hawk asked in the Lakota language.
"Washte" (good)," said Jimmy.
"Washte" (good)," said White Hawk.
"I was wondering if you would like to go catch some fish by the stream
with me and my sister?" asked Jimmy.
"Sister, you have a sister," said White Hawk.
"Yeah," said Jimmy.
"I didn't know you had a sister?" asked White Hawk.
"Well at that time she wasn't thought of yet," Jimmy laughs.
"Oh," smiled White Hawk.
"Come on let's go fishing," said Jimmy.
So they fished in the stream and caught a few fish and threw them back in.
"Wow we caught a few, yeah, my sister she probably could catch more than we caught," smiled Jimmy.
"Hey Jimmy," said Lisa holding her tackle box and fishing pole.
"Hey sister," said Jimmy.
"Hey," said Lisa.
"Sis, come over here, I want you to meet a friend of mine, White Hawk this is my sister Lisa," said Jimmy.
Lisa looked at White Hawk and fainted.
"Oh jeez, uh, sister, sister wake up, hello," said Jimmy.
White Hawk got some water and sprinkled it on Lisa's face.
"Huh what happened," said Lisa
"You fainted," said Jimmy picking her up.
"Hello, I am White Hawk," White Hawk about to shake Lisa's hand.
"Lisa," Lisa shaking White Hawk's hand.
"I'll take you home," said Jimmy helping his sister to the car.
White Hawk grabbed their gear and looked across the stream and saw the figure, White Hawk closed his eyes and opened them again, and the figure was gone.
"White Hawk, are you coming?" Jimmy asked.
"Yeah," said White Hawk walking towards Jimmy and looking back.
They got into the car and drove to Jimmy's house. When they arrived, they helped Lisa up to her room where she can rest.
"Wow, I can't believe she fainted, I must be that cute," smiled White Hawk.
"I know, that's funny, what is it with women and long hair?" laughed Jimmy.
"I don't know, I guess it depends on who has the long hair," laughed White Hawk.
"Well let's go do something while it's still daylight?" asked Jimmy.
"Okay let's go for a walk," said White Hawk.
So they started walking together around the reservation.
"Why do whites and Native hate each other so much?" White Hawk asked.
"Well I wouldn't say hate, I think it's because we are different," said Jimmy.
"Oh, but we're friends, right?" asked White Hawk.
"Always, friends forever," said Jimmy.
