'Well f*ck,' Thought Aoife. 'A dragonwrought like this is way above what mere D-rank dungeon adventurers can handle.'
"Should we take Johnny with us and run?" Asked Dream.
"Attempting to escape would do us no good. Night is falling outside, and that thing thrives in the open night skies. Might as well face it here within the confines of the cave." Aoife said to the other three.
"Well then." Said Shadow. "We'll see who's grave it will be!"
Dream suddenly noticed the aura thickening around Shadow.
"Chad! Protect Shadow!"
With a whoosh, the winged kobold appeared before Shadow. He jumped back just in time as he watched the ground below him crack under the sheer might of the spear.
Seeing that Shadow gritted his teeth. 'Sh*t, it's faster and stronger than all of us combined.''
Immediately retracting it's spear, the dragonwrought thrusted forward it's spear again. This time Shadow couldn't dodge it as barely a second had passed, and he still hadn't made contact with the ground yet.
"THUD!"
Chad had appeared, blocking the advance of the spear. His looks were that of shock, the steel shield of his was being bent by a spear!?
Aoife stepped out from the left of Chad, slashing down at the kobold. Flapping its wings, it pulled back it's spear and retreated back into the air with an unbelievable speed.
"That's a little dangerous for Salvar." Chuckled the Kobold as it positioned itself for another strike, this time at Aoife.
Dream, who had dropped the flaming spear and had pulled out his sword, lunged at it in a plow sword stance. He stopped it's strike, but in return his own sword stopped with a clank. The cloak of the kobold slided back, revealing a small buckler on it's left arm.
The dragonwrought turned it's spear towards him.
Chad yelled out in a panic. "Be careful Dream! He is strong enough to tear through your armour!'
Time seemingly slowed down to a trickle as Dream thought to himself.
'Well, I f*cked up."
…
17 hours later. 5 pm the next day.
"Where did that little rascal go?" Grumbled An Liu. "It's morning and he still hasn't shown his ugly mug."
He sat on a small wooden stool in front of the class overlooking the whole class. As he watched students in the chalk circle spar, a familiar face made her way in.
"Ah late as usual I see. Eh, Dawn?"
She smiled at his taunting words.
"Yes, unfortunately so. I woke up a bit late today because of the time difference."
"Hmmmm," He sized her up. "and I bet that you wouldn't have even come to class today if it weren't for your male friend"
She blushed lightly.
"Well speaking of which, did you see him today?"
An Liu looked back towards the chalk circles.
"Hell if I know where he has disappeared to. I have enough trouble with finding Shadow already." He grumbled.
"Really? Did Shadow disappear too?"
She looked around the class.
"I also don't see his usual teammates in class."
"Yeah he must have forgotten our deal."
"A deal. About what?"
"He has the night off for himself, but he must attend class everyday."
'Night off for himself, but must attend classes everyday… Everyday!' She thought.
"Everyday?!" Yelled out Ling in shock.
The other students in the chalk circles stopped and looked at her.
"Don't mind her. Keep sparring." Said An Liu loudly.
"Keep your voice down," He whispered. "Do you want the whole world to know?!"
"Sorry, but do you really mean it? Shadow really made a deal to you to not miss a day of class?"
"Yep."
"Then how does he even clear dungeons? Most letter dungeons can't be cleared in a day, let alone a night! Heck! Many adventurers even bring along tents and blankets!" Whispered Ling excitedly.
"Do you mean that he has been clearing dungeons by night, while attending classes by day?!"
An Liu simply smiled.
"That mad lad!" She whispered before glaring at him. "Sir, you are a deranged madman! Who else would ever force this on a student?"
Ling grabbed onto his shirt. "Not even I can clear a D-tier dungeon in the span of one night! You're insane!"
An Liu's eyes twinkled. "I guess I am."
He smiled, "But so are you. Ms. S rank dungeon clearer."
She loosened her grip and let go of him with a sigh.
The whole class gasped at the scene.
Ling turned and faced the class. "What are you all looking at?" She grinned with her teeth showing.
"Shouldn't you all be sparring or something?"
The class looked away and went back to sparring.
Ling eyeballed An Liu.
"Are you teaching students or monsters here?"
Liu merely chuckled in response.
...
Blurs of sliver stuck the Kobold before it could finish off Dream.
It howled out in surprise. A few more knives came, but none found it's mark as the dragonwrought had already retreated into the air.
""
This time the kobold eyed Shadow cautiously.
"Salvar wonders how many knives and daggers do you have?"
"I sometimes wonder too." Chuckled Shadow, who grew nervous seeing that his knives do little, but surprise the kobold.
The dragonwrought then casually brushed the knives off it's cloak revealing a metallic shine underneath it.
Aoife eyes widen.
"A dragonscale armour." She said in half awe and half horror.
"Could it be a kobold chief?!"
Salvar chuckled.
"Yes, Salvar is a dragon chosen one. Let Salvar show you why."
"WHOOSH!"
Salvar dashed towards Shadow who had turned tail and ran.
Aoife rushes in for a slash at its wings, but Salvar, hearing her, responded in kind with a blunt strike from the end of his spear.
"Thud!"
The quick, vicious strike sented the lightly armoured Aoife tumbling back. Chad dropped his sword and caught her.
"Dream go help him!" He said with one hand pointing at Shadow frantically running away from the kobold.
Dream nodded and sprinted towards Shadow.
Shadow desperately dashed away, dodging multiple slashes and stabs by the hair on his neck. The kobold closed their distance and had cornered him. It once again stabbed towards him with seemingly no way to dodge when he rolled onto the ground.
"Gruhh!" Yelled the kobold irritatedly.
"Are you a human, a squirrel or a tumbleweed? Make up your mind!"
"F*ck you and your ma!" Shadow spitted before he rolled away.
"Step, step, step!"
Hearing Dream approaching, the kobold turned an eye towards him and went to bludgeon him with the spear, but unlike Aoife. He had leaped up high into the air, causing the spear to miss him.
"Now die!" He screamed as he brought his raised sword down upon his foe.
Aoife was stunned beyond words.
"What in Nirvana is that jump?! It must have been around 30 inches!" Exclaimed Chad.
The kobold widened its eyes in surprise as it turned to block with it's shield, but it was already too late.
Dream shifted his sword and slashed down on its exposed left wing. It went through clean.
"Greh!" It's mouth dropped open as it saw it's sliced wing.
"AHHHHHHHHHH!" It screamed loudly and dropped it's shield.
With wild eyes, Salvar grabbed onto it's spear with two hands and swung. The spear slashed across Dream's chest, breaking through his chainmail and drawing crimson blood. Dream crumpled back in shock.
"DIE HUMAN!" It screeched, raising it's spear. This time it was going to behead him.
Shadow who had rolled off earlier had somehow found his way behind the kobold. He jumped onto the kobold and wrapped his arm around its neck. Feeling chainmail, he went for the second best opinion and stabbed it's right eye.
