Since the first day of school, I have always thought of how should I go about obtaining magic as early as possible. Cause I ain't waiting for the advanced class to just learn a magic foundation.
So I thought, if they won't teach me how to do magic, then I'll just teach myself.
So I went to the school library to search for books on the magic foundation. Took me weeks before I found any decent books on magic for a beginner. Cause I don't wanna cripple myself by accident you know.
Many would ask why look for books and not search online? Well here's the thing, there is no internet here. Nada, as a modern person one could imagine how bored I am. The latest invention that remotely related to information technology was a magic TV.
Which by the way, only broadcast 3 channels. The plus was that it has a holographic screen, hence magic.
Anyway the lack of technology aside.
While I was searching for books, I also have Sophie and Eru to accompany me. I don't want to isolate myself from them while I spend hours upon hours searching for the magic books.
Not to say that Sophie and Eru depend on me to be a pillar of support since they have grown out of that somewhat. It is also because I want to include them in this venture since learning magic will always be beneficial to them too.
Sophie whined a lot about being stuck indoors and about having a lot of pent up energy. While she whines about it, she still stays and helps me look for the books on magic.
If Sophie is talkative, Eru on the other just helps me without so much of a comment. I chalk it up as she always been, the perfect Kuudere. Still, I'm grateful that she help me without any complaints.
Anyway, one of the applicable books we found was called "Magic for dummies".
I mean really? The dummies series exist here too.
"Magic for dummies" explains magic in the most simplistic terms without any in-depth jargon involve.
The book itself was not that thick, it's around 300 pages in total. However, it talks through all the complicated jargon and goes right into the main points of the basics of Magic.
To summarize, Magic is a phenomenon the caster evokes through the usage of mana. Mana is the energy that exists in all things. To used magic, the caster must awaken the spiritual mana container in the caster's body.
The container size determines the amount of initial mana the caster can uses in the beginning. By awaken it early, it allows the container to grow as the Caster ages.
It's not to say that having a small mana container makes one unsuitable to become a caster profession, since the container can grow with enough meditation.
However, Mana container capacity is largely innate, which is to say it is based on innate ability and bloodline.
Mana is the energy that the multiverse breath out to vitalize worlds. It is encompassing.
There are many types of mana, from fire mana that burns to water mana that soaks. There is as many types of mana as there are aspects of the world.
As such mana are all mixed up in the environment. The caster needs to use mana in their body (which are called OD) to draw the correct type of mana in the surrounding to construct a magic circle or to fill in the prescribed circle to activate the prescribed magic.
All spellcasters have an intuitive sense toward mana to collect the right type to perform their spellcasting.
All caster professions made use of the magic circles to cast their spell. As the level of the spell increase, so the magic circle complexity.
The spell's level is divided by the complexity of the magic circle from 0 to 9. With spell level 0 (Cantrip) being the lowest to level 9 being highest. There are also legendary spells that can only be cast by the Legendary spellcasting profession. (Legend is a realm a profession can reach. It signifies the peak of that profession.)
The magic circle is then made of magic rune-scripts. Which for some reason bare a resemblance of numeric numbers and alphabet letters.
Which is 0-9 and A-Z. 36 characters in total.
While technically one can cast any spells by knowing the exact rune-script combination. There is some exception like Priests' divine spell, Warlocks' Patron spells, Druids' nature spell and Sorcerer bloodline spells.
The way those previously mention professions spells can't be copied was that their spells are also technically not theirs. It is essentially a borrowing power.
Anyway, one can create their own personal spells if they know enough about the rune-script.
This book is not detailed on spell crafting. Well what can I do, it is essentially a beginner book of magic.
Anyway, I have been studying this book and a few others for a few days now.
I got a rough idea of how the spells works, now I just need to find a way to awaken my magic container.
Still, though my studying session was not as peaceful as I wished it was. While Eru was more than happy to accompany me in my endeavour. Sophie on the other hand...
"Yuuji."
Was handful. And like any other days when she's bored, she came bugging Eru and me.
"YUUJI!!!"
Like today.
*sign
"Hai hai, Yuuji desu."
"Mou, Yuuji. Why are you and Eru likes to cope up in the room on Sunday when it's sunny out. Come oooon let's go out and play.", coaxed Sophie.
Oh, come on. Just when I was getting to the part on how to unlock my magic container. Whatever, I'll bookmark it and come back and read it later.
"Ok ok. Come on Eru, we can come back and read later.", I tied to get Eru to come along.
"Tsk. Yuuji, you spoil Sophie too much.", said Eru as she got up from her chair.
Even though she sounds pissed, she still follows us out. What a great friend she is.
So we left our share room, in the orphanage. As a healthy 8 years old, I can say that it's still ok to live in the same room with my two childhood friends without it being inappropriate.
The orphanage does have limited space after all.
I tried to convince myself that.
Anyway, we left for the backyard of the orphanage, which by the way has plenty of space. I can some of the orphans playing tag or hide and seek. While it is not as big as the park we used to go to as a kid, it has enough space to play in.
The only problem was that the orphanage has no playground, thus the kids want to park more often than in the backyard.
Anyway, Sophie was all ready to explode, I could see her shaking non-stop as soon as we left.
While I want nothing more than to go back to my books (which Eru seems to agree with me), I do want to spend time with my friends together. I don't want my relationship with Sophie and Eru to deteriorate.
Plus exercising once in a while is good for my physical health. I might not be the most athletic but have a foundation for a powerful body could not be bad.
Even if the world seems peaceful, you can never know what could happen. It's better to be stronger than being too weak to do anything.
Wow, time sure passes by fast, when you are exhausted. Sophie really run me rag today, I don't think Eru was any better though. Eru might seem healthy but her physical abilities are lower than me.
Anyway, Sophie must have a lot of pent up energy. She really ran Eru and I rag. Still, Sophie seems satisfied with today's activities, even at the cost of me and Eru.
I couldn't help but also felt satisfied too. This friendship I really value it and I also think Eru thought the same too, or else she wouldn't even come out today.
Sophie skipped in a happy mood toward the orphanage getting ready to eat dinner. I slowed down and help Eru walk since she seems to be falling behind.
"Yuuji, you don't need to help me."
"It's okay, I'm the one who asks you to come down and play with Sophie. It's the least I could do since you are tired also.", I replied as I held her hand and help her walk.
I heard her mumble something but couldn't quite catch it, something start with idio.....and end it anyway.
"Did you say something?", I asked in confusion
"No." That was a quick reply. Makes me really curious about what she said though.
Whatever. I'm starting to feel hungry, playing with Sophie drain me more than I thought.
Still I wish day like this would last forever, even if I know that could never come true.
