Swimming Pool

The uber drops me off in front of the empty school. There's only a couple of cars that are still occupying the driveway, but it's probably from teachers that stayed back a couple of hours to grade students' work.

It feels illegal to be in the building after school is out, but I know it's not. Students are welcomed to use the library, music room, art room, and other places after school all the time.

I can hear chattering from some of the classrooms as I walk through the halls, trying to find the indoor swimming pool.

I'm not the new kid anymore, but I still have trouble navigating around the school sometimes.

I go through the girls locker room because it's a short cut to the indoor swimming pool. Once I open the door connected to the swimming pool, I spot David.

I pause for a second, watching him float in the pool. My heart starts to stutter when I see him face down in the pool.

"David," I call out as I run over to the pool, but he doesn't move. His body still stays floating above the water, his head down and no way to get oxygen.

On instinct, I jump into the pool and swim fast towards him. I reach his body in the middle of the pool. His long hair has fallen out of it's bun and it hides his face.

I peddle as fast as I can to carry his body to the edge of the pool. When I get there, I pull his heavy body out of the water. I struggled for a bit, almost dropping him back in.

"DAVID," I scream his name again once I have his body flipped over onto his back and push his hair out of his face. His lips are blue.

I panic when he doesn't move and I have no idea how to do CPR.

"Shit," I mutter under my breath, running to my purse that I dropped on the floor and take out my phone, ready to call an ambulance.

Out of nowhere, arms wrap around me and I'm thrown back into the pool. My arms flap around, trying to get back to the surface of the water. My nose burns because of the water that went up it.

I gasp for air as I reach the surface and I hear a loud laughter. David is standing outside of the pool, laughing and putting his hair in a bun. His clothes are all wet, but he doesn't seem to care. He wipes the blue off his lips that I'm guessing is lipstick or something.

"What the hell is wrong with you," I yell at him, fuming. I try to get my hair out of my face and now its all knotted.

"That's for being late." I swim back to the edge of the pool and he helps me out.

"That's not something you joke about. Are we even now, asshole?" I push him in the chest and he stumbles a little, almost falling in the pool again.

"Yes, we are. Should we get started now? We've wasted enough time already." He throws a towel at my face and I use it to dry some of the water off of my. I squeeze some water out of my clothes, but I'll just have to let it air dry.

David sits in front of the pool and pulls out a notebook from his bag. I braid my hair back, so it stays out of my face and walk over to him. I sit next to him and see a notebook full of plans and little sketches.

"Are those your ideas for the project?"

"Yeah, I have five pages full of ideas. I wrote them all down during lunch. Do you have anything," he asks.

"I didn't get to write down ideas. I got caught up in something, but you can take me through your ideas and if anything pops up in my head, I'll tell you."

We go over ideas and think about what we should do. We have a couple ideas, but none of them really pop out to us.

By the time two hours pass, we still can't settle on just one idea. David looked like he was ready to pull out his hair. He was no longer the cool, nonchalant David.

"We still have two weeks. We'll figure something out," I tell him, trying to calm him down. He breathes out a sigh.

"Your right." I know he wants to say more, but he bites his tongue. "I have to go now." He leaves and I walk out of the indoor swimming pool, getting ready to call Jamie to pick me up.

Before I can call her, I see Chester's name pop up on the screen. I pick and put the phone to my ear.

"Hey, whats up," I ask him.

"I haven't seen you all day. I should be asking you what's up," he says, laughing.

"Yeah, I had to help Hope out earlier and I just finished looking at ideas for an art project with my partner."

"You want to hang out? I just went to see my brother and..." He pauses, not wanting to say anything about how his visit went.

"No problem. You can come over to my place. I think my mom is making dinner."

"Ok. I'll be there in twenty." We hang up and I call Sky as I decide to just walk home. She picks up on the second ring.

"Hey, how's Hope," I ask her.

"Um, her dad came to pick her up," Sky says, but her voice seems worried.

"What happened," I ask her.

"I don't know. It just seemed... weird. He was in a rush to take her home and it didn't seem like Hope really wanted to go. I can tell she looked scared."

"Did you try asking her," I ask Sky. I really hope that Hope is ok.

"Yeah. She said everything was fine, but I don't know if I believe her."

"We'll ask her tomorrow when she comes to school. Maybe she'll be better tomorrow or she'll be more willing to talk to us."

"Okay."
