It Never Ends

"What are you guys doing in there? The alarm has been going off for twenty minutes now." The sound of someone banging on a door jolts me awake. There's a heavy body laying on top of mines and I push it off.

I hear the other person groan in pain from thumping their head on the cold tile. When I open my eyes, the first thing I see is a toilet.

"Spencer," the person next to me whispers and I recognize it's Jamie's voice. My mom continues to yell at us from the bathroom door and I finally snap out of my daze.

"Sorry, mom. We'll be out in a second." I jump up in a rush and check the time on my phone. "Shit, how did we fall asleep in the bathroom, Jamie? We have to get ready for school. We'll be at least a half an hour late now."

I look down at Jamie who's getting up onto her feet and my eyes pause on her hair. Her eyes meet mines in confusion.

"Why are you looking at me like that," she questions me. I point to her hair. She turns to the mirror and doesn't look surprised. "You don't remember last night?"

"I thought it was all a dream. I'm really starting to lose my mind, aren't I? I really need some sleep." I rub my head, feeling it start to ache.

How did I forget that I helped Jamie cut her hair to her collarbone and dye it raging red? I even curled her hair into the most amazing style ever. We were so tired that we didn't even realize that we passed out on the bathroom floor.

"Let's just get ready for school. My hair looks good and that's all that matters," she say, checking herself out in the mirror. I laugh, but leave her room to get ready in my bathroom.

As long as she's happy, everything will be alright. Her hair will distract her long enough from her heartbreak or give her the courage she needs to mend things with Parker.

After I'm done rushing to get ready, I get my car keys back from Nick who has finally gotten his car back, and drive Jamie and I to school. By the time we get to school, we've already missed our first period of the day.

We get a late pass from the main office and go our separate ways to our classes. I head to my math class where Chester and Parker save a seat for me.

"Your late, Ms. Kingsley," my teacher points out. I don't know how I confused him with Adam Sandler when I was high. He looks nothing like him.

"Yes, I know, sir. I apologize," I tell him.

"Don't apologize to me. It'll be your own fault if you fail my class," he tells me, rolling his eyes. I Just take my seat in between Parker and Chester, and pull out my things to do my work.

"Hey, you ok," Chester asks me. "It seems like I've been having to ask you that a lot lately." I feel his hands rub my back.

"I'll be fine. Is Hope back in school today?" I change the subject. I don't give him a chance to question me more because I start writing the notes that are on the board.

"Actually, yes. She's back and she looks better than ever. She's actually in a good mood today. I guess she got over her funk. I hope that helps you feel better and that you can get some sleep now."

"No, because I had to stay up late helping Jamie dye her hair red and chop it because it was the only way to stop her from crying," I tell Chester, but it was really directed to Parker and he got the message.

"Is she ok," Parker asks quietly. I scoff.

"Do really not know? Did you not listen to all 146 voicemails that she left you," I ask sarcastically. I really can't help it.

"I-." Parker tries to talk, but I interrupt him.

"Look, I don't care anymore. It's not problem to solve. You guys will figure it out." Parker stays silent, not knowing what to say. I lay my head down on the table, figuring that this is the perfect time for a nap.

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

"Spencer, wake up. You need to wake up before-." I hear Chester's voice, but what shocks me out of my deep sleep is a hand slamming down on my desk.

"Ms. Kingsley, I have had enough of you!" I look up to meet eyes with Mr. Lockner and he looks furious. "Wipe that drool off your face." I use my sleeve to wipe off the line of drool and I can see the whole class' attention is on me.

"I would think you would want to redeem yourself after coming late to my class, but instead, you go to sleep. Listen here, Ms. Kingsley. My class isn't a daycare." His voice booms through the classroom and everyone's silent.

"It won't happen again, Mr. Lockner," I tell him.

"You bet it won't. Detention after school," he says, walking away. My heart beats faster and I freak out.

"What?! No, I can't have detention after school." I promised David that we'd meet after school. We really need to get started on this project.

"You will have detention after school. If you don't show up, I will extend it to three days detention," Mr. Lockner finalizes my doom. The bell rings and everyone grabs their stuff to leave.

"Sparrow, it'll be alright," Chester tells me, grabbing my bag for me.

"I can carry my own bag," I snap at him unnecessarily and I watch his expression drop. "I'm sorry I snapped at you. You head to lunch. I just need to go to the bathroom."

Chester doesn't answer back when I walk away, but I can't seem to care at the moment. My mind feels like crap, I can't focus on anything, and things keep piling up.

And when I think I'm done with one situation, it rears its ugly face right back in my way. Before I can make it to the bathroom, I spot Alexander and Hope trying to sneak behind a staircase.

Time to find out what's going on.
