"I guess this means they're back together," Alexandra asks me from the other side of the cafeteria table. We're both looking at Parker and Jamie all snuggled up with each other and being all lovey dovey.
"Yep. I guess so," I answer Alexandra. Seeing Parker and Jamie so close again makes me smile. I'm happy Jamie talked to Parker about everything and now they're stronger than ever.
The whole crew is sitting at our usual spot, including Hope. I guess when she noticed that I no longer was going to harass her for the truth, she found it safe to take her old seat again. I definitely haven't forgotten about anything. I'm just taking David's advice.
Sky is texting non stop on her phone and there's a big grin permanently plastered on her face. Alexander is trying to read her messages from beside her.
"Can't wait to see you next time. I miss you already, Hunny Bunny," Alexander says in a girly voice, reading off of Sky's phone. She turns off her phone and punches Alex in the shoulder.
"Don't read my messages and I don't sound like that," Sky says. It doesn't stop her from grinning out of control.
"So, when do we get to meet this guy," Chester asks Sky. Her eyes grow like a deer stuck in headlights.
"M-meet him? Ummm.... Never. You're never meeting him," she says.
"What? That doesn't seem fair. Why can't we meet him," Daniel asks. Everyone agrees with him. Sky just shrugs her shoulders in nervousness.
"How about we make a deal," I ask Sky. Everyone pauses, looking over at me. Sky looks at me confused.
"I'm intrigued. Continue," she says. Everyone waits to see what I have to say.
"If we win today's game, you have to let all of us meet mystery boy."
"Oh yeah. That's a great idea, but Sky will probably be too chicken to agree to that," Chester says. I can tell he's just trying to rile Sky up. She glares at the both of us.
"I'm not scared of your stupid little bet," she says. "Fine. If you win, I'll let you meet him. If you lose, you won't get to meet him until I want you to."
"It's a deal Milady," Jamie answers for me.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
"I'll meet you outside," I tell Jamie and leave the locker room. Everyone's getting dressed for the game and coach is going around to talk to all the girls. Chester told me to meet him before the game starts, so I'm running outside to the bleachers.
The bleachers are already being filled by fans, students, and parents from both schools. I spot Chester who's waiting for me and I run over to him.
"Here to wish me luck," I ask him. He pulls me closer to him and lands a kiss on my lips. I savor it.
"Yeah and I got you something." He pulls a box from his jacket pocket and puts it in the palm of my hand. I smile like an idiot.
"What is it?"
"Open it and find out." I follow his orders and lift the lid off the box. My eyes stop on the silver charm bracelet. There's eight charms on the bracelet. A tiny paint brush, football, starfish, rainbow, crown, glass slipper, little bird, and airplane. It glimmers under the light of the setting sun.
I look back up at him with tears brimming my eyes.
"Chester, you shouldn't have. This is beautiful," I tell him. I can feel the tears slipping down my face. He comes closer, wiping my tears.
"It's what you deserve. You deserve the world, Sparrow." He takes it out of the box and clips the bracelet around my wrist.
When he finishes, I pull his face down to mines and kiss him to death. He's caught by surprised, but pulls me in closer than ever before.
"This is the best gift I've ever received," I tell him when we pull apart.
"Alright, go now. Your team is waiting for you," Chester says and I turn away to leave. "You look good in your uniform by the way," he tells me as I walk away.
"Jerk," I yell back to him and walk faster away so he doesn't notice my blush.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
"Anyone want to say anything before the game?" Coach just finished giving us a rundown of the formation we were going to play in this game. She's now opening the floor to anyone who wants to say anything inspirational to the team. Everyone looks over at me, expecting me to say something. My eyes growing wide.
"Why is everyone looking at me," I ask feeling a little nervous.
"I think you're the best candidate to give a speech to the team before we play. You've only been playing for a couple of months and you're really good. Not only with your skills, but you've really connected to everyone on the team. You were our missing link," Jamie says next to me. Everyone agrees with her.
I can feel the blush creeping up my neck and onto my cheeks.
"I've never had a team before. I've always really been on my own, but I really love this team. We've practiced hard for these games and I know it's going to get us to championships. We work together and we stick together. There's nothing that can stop us. I have no doubt about," I tell them. It makes me feel like I'm about to cry.
I never thought that I'd have people that looked at me like this. Like family, with admiration and respect. I really like it here in Philly.
"Alright team, lets go and win this," Alexandra yells, breaking me out of my trance. I hadn't noticed she was there, taking pictures as we're huddled together. We all scream and shout, already feeling victorious.
Both teams get settled in their positions for the start of the game. My heart races like it always does seconds before a game. I love the feeling of adrenaline.
We've done this a million times before. We've got this.
The whistle blows, signaling the start of the game.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Five minutes left of the game. I'm sitting on the bench watching my team. We're currently tied and one more score can determine the winner of this game. It was a very competitive game, but I'm not worried.
Both sides of the bleacher of fans are going wild. I look around seeing everyone pumped up with adrenaline. I smile looking at Chester who's zoomed into the game with everyone else,
I notice movement in my peripheral and my attention is turned to this guy standing with a red hat on his head beside the bleachers. It's dark and it's a little hard to see who it is, but the guy seem familiar.
I feel itchy not being able to identify who this guy is.
"Coach, I need to use the restroom," I tell her. She nods her head, but stays focused on the game. My curiosity is killing me. I start walking in the direction of the guy.
"Academy Arts High scores another touchdown. That's the end of the game ladies and gents. The ladies of Academy Arts win." The guy over the speaker says. I hear my team screams of victory on the field and the fans on the bleacher go crazy, but I keep my eyes on the guy standing by the bleachers.
Who is he? Why is my body trying to warn me.
The fans run off the bleachers and some block my way to the boy. I lose him out of my sights, but I try to squeeze through the crowd and find my way to him.
I try to follow the red cap through the crowd as it walks in the opposite direction. He turns the corner and I feel like he knows he's being followed.
I speed up my pace and turn the corner that leads to the school parking lot, but I've lost him.
Crap! Where did he go?
Chills run up my spine and I feel like I'm being watched. There was something off about that guy and I can't shake it off.
"Hey, Spencer. Where are you going? Everyone's looking for you. The team's celebrating," I hear an excited Sky say from behind me.
I turn around, trying to shake off the feeling I had and walk to Sky.
"Nothing. What are you doing over here," I ask her.
"Oh, I was looking for my boyfriend, but I think he left already. Come on, let's go back to everyone else."
