But as he watched, he noticed that his master hardly bothered with it. His eyes were focused firmly ahead. Pash wondered about that. How was he to defend against the unknown strike when he wasn't ready for it?

He considered that a little more. What if he was indeed to prepare for the unknown strike, only to predict the wrong direction? Then his response would be slower than it would have otherwise been had he not cared to prepare at all.

The state of no-mind that his master had often mentioned, Pash thought that might have been it. With his lack of fear, it was easy for Pash to push towards that. He relaxed himself and chose to predict nothing, merely focusing on getting through the swamp with the rest of them.
