Chapter 99 - I'm from Xinghua Village too.

The racket was loud and deafening.

But the boy cradling her acted as if he heard nothing and didn't react at all.

"Brother Axiu?" She pushed him. "Open the door or the door will be taken down by Young Boss."

The boy remained silent; and when she thought he wouldn't answer, he blinked and pursed his lips. "He's so noisy."

The voice was aggravated, giving her the message that the person outside rapping on the door was annoying.

Liu Yusheng burst out laughing.

"I slept half the afternoon, didn't I? I guess the family was worried and didn't want to disturb my rest, so Young Boss volunteered."

After sleeping for so long, her drained energy was restored. Because she just woke up, and the young man protected her warmly in his arms, Liu Yusheng cheeks were rosy pink and she looked bubbly.

The boy outside the door was still shooting and yelling, so Liu Yusheng raised her voice and shouted, "Young Boss, stop knocking. I'll be out in a minute."

Only then did the noise cease.

"Brother Axiu, let me up." Patting his arm that held her, Liu Yusheng motioned for him to let go.

"Can't let go."

"?"

"Hands numb."

"…"

He was obviously the one who did this stubbornly, but now he sounded aggrieved, making her dumbfounded and between laughter and tears.

After he eased the numbness on his hands and feet, they walked out of the room, seeing Qian Wanjin, who raised a hand and was about to knock again.

As soon as he saw Axiu, Qian Wanjin immediately put his hand down and flared up. "How could you? How dare you lock the door when you're in Lucky Nannan's room! If people find this out, her reputation will be in tatters! If I were the elder in the family, I'd have smacked you with a big broom!"

"You're not."

"…" ARGHHH! If he were, could this kid get close to Lucky Nannan?

"Young Boss, don't keep bullying Brother Axiu," Liu Yusheng said helplessly. "He still doesn't understand a lot of things."

Qian Wanjin was stumped. "Lucky Nannan, you're biased ah! I bully him?" I'm the one who gets bullied in the end, okay!"

This was too embarrassing to admit – humiliating.

By the time he smoothed it out, Liu Yusheng was already far away with Axiu in tow.

AHHHH – He was even more infuriated!

After dinner, without waiting for the family's joint trial, Aunt Guihua and her husband came, holding the Shuanzi, who had woken up, carrying a chicken and a basket of eggs.

Upon entering, they asked Shuanzi to kowtow to Liu Yusheng, scaring the hell out of her.

"Nannan, if it wasn't for you, Shuanzi would have been gone. Please accept this gift!" Aunt Guihua's eyes were red.

The afternoon's events were still palpable to her to this moment.

"Auntie, don't say that. I just did my best at the time; just like when I went missing. Didn't you and uncle stay awake all night and help around to find me?"

"Yeah, right? We're all affection for our neighbors here in the village. There's no need to be overly polite. When our family was in trouble, weren't you the ones who lent a helping hand?" Grandma Liu pulled Aunt Guihua's hand and let her sit down, and looked at the dignified and healthy Shuanzi. "This child looks like an elf. He'll be blessed after this misfortune."

"It would be nice if there are blessings to follow. This kid is mischievous."

Shuanzi has already stood up. In the middle of the adults, there wasn't a hint of terror on his face. He inclined his head, his eyes brightly fixed at Liu Yusheng with a look of affection.

Although he suffered in the afternoon, his spirits weren't diminished. The spiritual spring water should have played a role.

"Why are you looking at me?" Liu Yusheng was amused. She also tilted her head and looked at the little toddler, asking with a smile.

"Sister Nannan!" Shuanzi suddenly shouted, especially loudly, and then stomped over and hugged Liu Yusheng's leg. "I'll be your little sidekick from now on. I'll beat up anyone who bullies you!"

After a moment of silence, everyone roared with laughter.

Only one person stared at the toddler clinging on Liu Yusheng's leg, his fingers repeatedly tightening, hesitating whether to throw him out.

As if sensing the cold gaze on him, the toddler hid behind Liu Yusheng in a whoosh. He poked his head out, looked at the young man who was coldly condemning him, and made a face.

For the first time, Axiu felt what Qian Wanjin felt when he always wanted to pick on him.

Really, it was unpleasant.

Knowing that Aunt Guihua came to say thank you on the one hand, and to get medicine on the other, Liu Yusheng went back to her room while the adults were chatting and came out again with two small vials in her hand.

Aunt Guihua took the vials, almost extra cautiously and piously.

"Shuanzi is recovering very well, and there's nothing serious about his body anymore. But still, he was frightened, and he may have a fever at night. So if he does, feed him these two vials of medicine."

"Okay, we'll take note of that, Nannan. Thank you so much." Aunt Guihua put away the bottle of medicine carefully, then took out a pouch. "Nannan, you've saved Shuanzi. It has exhausted you including this medicine. Don't be disgusted by my coarseness. You must accept this consultation fee. This is the family's savings in the past few years – a total of 11 taels. I know it's definitely not enough. Take it first. We'll add more later when we've saved some money."

"Guihua, what are you doing…"

"Sister, don't rush to speak. My Shuanzi's life is more than 11 taels, isn't it? Not to mention without Nannan, Shuanzi would have been gone; if I had consulted other doctors, wouldn't they have charged me too? You know all the medical clinics in town. A trip there for a minor ailment is impossible without a few taels of silver. I'm really ashamed, but this is all we've got. You must accept it! Moreover, now that Nannan's fame for being a divine doctor has spread around, if you don't charge me money, what are you going to do in the future when people really treat you as a free medical clinic?"

The Liu family was tangled.

If they accepted, this was all the Guihua family's possessions. If they refused, Guihua's argument made sense. If someone knocked on the door looking for a doctor again, they couldn't keep refusing to take fees, right? Nannan's potions didn't fall from the sky.

"Auntie, I'll take a silver for the consultation." At this juncture, Liu Yusheng received the pouch, took out a silver from it, and returned the rest. "These two vials of potion are for nourishing and reducing fever made from common herbs. In addition to the medicine earlier, one tael of silver is enough."

"Nannan, this won't work!" No matter how ignorant they were, they knew that the potion that Nannan used in the afternoon was definitely not ordinary.

"Auntie, I'm also from Xinghua Village, and I'm the child you've watched grow up."

This line made Aunt Guihua's eyes redden once more.

There was no more pushback. She collected the pouch, and carried Shuanzi who was still pulling at the hem of Liu Yusheng's shirt. "Okay, I won't bother you any longer. Shuanzi, you'll have to remember this kindness for the rest of your life."

Shuanzi nodded vigorously. "I'll remember, mother!"

It was easy to send the family away. When she returned to the house, she saw the family all sitting in the hall, eyes brightly trained at her. All right, here came the joint trial.
