Lilla's book collection

(Lilla's POV)

After having breakfast with my family, I decided to take my boyfriend to the studio to finally show him my book collection. Knowing he probably hadn't ever seen these type of books in his life, I made him close his eyes and led him to the room, trying to surprise him.

"You can open your eyes now!", I smiled, wanting to see how he would react.

He gasped, covering his mouth, "what kind of books are those? Since when do they exist?".

I giggled, "well... they're pretty old actually, it surprises me that they haven't replaced the normal books with the newest technology in our university yet".

"Rottlestown is still stuck in the past, I guess... but going into this house is like jumping into the future", he laughed, "it's just too much".

I nodded, even though I didn't feel the same way, this was completely normal to me. I grabbed a random book to start teaching him how to use them, he was so excited that I couldn't stop smiling. He started touching the screen, shaking it, trying to figure out how it was supposed to work.

"Is it some kind of hologram technology? I've heard people talking about it on TV a lot", he tried pressing the small buttons on its side.

I couldn't stop laughing, "James, James! No... honey, let me help you. Just imagine it's a phone screen, a big one, maybe a tablet. You need to press this button and choose the option you want, you can read it like you would read a normal book or listen to it, I prefer the last option since I can do other things while listening to it".

"More voices? No, thanks, I have enough with Mary, the creepy robot", I waited for him to laugh and know it was a joke but he didn't, my dad really did not help him get used to the advanced technology with his jokes.

"It's okay, you can just read it. I chose it randomly so you can get another book if you want to".

James shook his head, "this one seems interesting actually".

I nodded and got a book to read in the couch with him. We lost track of the time and realized a few hours later that we had to eat lunch. "Daddy? I was thinking that maybe we could go out to get food, what do you think?".

"I would love to! I think we need some time for ourselves", he agreed. "Could we take these books with us to keep reading them?".

I gasped, "no! We're not allowed to take them out of this house".

James raised his eyebrows, "why? They're just... books".

"Honestly, I don't know the reason why we can't, I never really questioned it, but my dad never let us take them anywhere".

"How would he know though?", he had a point.

I never thought about that but I was too scared to disobey my dad. "I guess he wouldn't but you know, better safe than sorry".

We left the books in their place and told my parents we were coming back before dinner time. I knew a good place to go to, we took the car and drove there; I was hoping he would like it but I knew it would be different for him, just like the rest of the city.
