Chapter Seventy-Four: Gia's Visit

Anthony's POV

My mood is dark and broody as I swing the entrance door open, for once wishing I could be anywhere but here. Mrs. Khumalo stands from her chair when she sees me, flashing me a bright smile as she did every morning.

"Good morning, Principal Matthews." She chirps, ever in a good mood. I nod at her, expecting her to follow me into my office. Her heels click loudly as she scurries behind me, and for an unpleasant second, the sound reminds me of Janice.

Thinking about my ex-secretary plummets my mood deeper into the dark hole, and I all but grunt as I shrug my blazer off, handing it to Mrs. Khumalo to hang. Dejected, I settle in my chair, already exhausted by the day that lies ahead.

"Your messages." She places the post-it notes in order of importance in front of me, just how I like it.

"Your coffee." A steaming cup of black, no sugar is set before me, making me sit up with intrigue.
