Ugh!! I grunt disappointedly. It has been 20 long years already. My company ABL, short for ADVANCED BIO LABS has been trying to create a serum that will play a huge role in human evolution. Our aim was to create a powerful superhuman who would be unstoppable, regenerate body parts and possess a couple of other features. We called it project ZOMION. So far ,all our efforts have been futile. Every time we almost reach a breaking point,some failure occurs. Mostly organ failure of the test subject, in this case a rat. If we indeed make a breakthrough with this , we could change the world greatly.Humans would benefit greatly. Sicknesses would finally be cured, we would not have to worry about aging too fast anymore and we could work faster than ever.

"Sir" I'm broken from my thoughts as my assistant scientist, Rob Perks says, "he's arrived" I put on a smile and rub my now sweaty hands on my labcoat. ,"Finally! ,where is he?" . "He's right outside on the benches waiting to come in" . "Well, let him in then".

I can't believe it. After all these years ,I was finally meeting him. All of sudden, I felt nervous. What if he doesn't like me,what if I'm not what he wants as a father. I pushed those thoughts aside and cleared my mind. I loosened my tie . I don't know if it's just the heat or me being nervous. I've waited for too long. I just have to control my emotions like I always have . Ever since I lost her. I heard a knock on the door , " Come in, the door is open" Immediately I finished saying that, the door opened. I looked up from my desk to see a young man standing in front of me . He looked just like me when I was young. He was dressed in a navy blue suit . From his uneasy stance, he seemed to be trying to control himself. I guess I was not the only nervous one in here. I nervously stood up and walked slowly to the side of my desk , slowly observing him. He indeed looked just like me , a chip off the old block but unlike my blue eyes and blond hair, he has his mother's green eyes and perfect brown hair. " Please have a seat and make yourself comfortable" I said softly to him.

I vigorously rubbed my hands on my labcoat again and extended my hand for a handshake. Sweaty hands. A few seconds passed before he finally and hesistantly extended his hand and shook mine. All this while,he didn't make eye contact. I decided to clear the air, "Good morning Bryan. Its finally nice to meet you even if it's under these circumstances. How are you holding up" All I get in response is a nod of the head. I continued, "I'm really sorry about your mother " . For the first time ,he looked up at me. Sadness written all over his face." Don't be, it was inevitable, her heart had been weak for years, it was just a matter of time ". "She was a beautiful and great woman ,I'll miss her " I added.

"Son, I'm sorry for all these years. When your mum, Martha and I divorced, I didn't know she was expecting a baby. You. It was after a few years that I finally got to know. She was married to your stepfather then. I asked her if you were mine. She said you weren't. That made me stop . Martha never lied to me.I still had my suspicions though and I thought of you all the time. Everyday and every night, you were in my mind and heart. It was so, until recently on her deathbed she confessed that you were indeed my son. All I ask is that you believe me"

"Don't worry sir , it's not your fault. Mum made a lot of mistakes.I know she did it for a reason" . I noticed the way he said sir instead of dad. I couldn't really blame him . The kid recently got to know about me. I would wait . Shrugging it off, I smiled, "Well then Bryan ,come with me, let me introduce you to the rest of the team" I said as I opened the door to the labs.

Passing by my lab, I told him, " this is where I get all my work done and where you'll be working too" I saw a bit of a smile on his face before it disappeared. He is all I have left and I promised myself never to leave his side. I introduced him to the team and I left them to get familiarized. But before I left , I take him aside . " I'm so sorry about everything that has happened, I was not there for you as a father when I should have. I know you think it is not my fault but it is a little. Please give me a chance to be there for you from now. Not just as a father but hopefully as a friend too" I poured out to him.

He looked keenly at my face as if he was trying to figure out something and then nodded slowly. "We can be friends, sir, there's no problem with that" I smile widely than I ever thought I could and pulled him in for a hug. He stiffened making me realize what I'd done. Red in the face with embarrassment, i hurriedly pulled away from him. "Uhm, I'll see you later, go get familiar with the team" I told him and he nodded and went off.

On the way to my office, I did a crazy thing, I jumped in the air and clapped. I hoped no one saw that. Well, even if they did, they wouldn't dare talk about it because.... I'm the boss.
