Chapter 6

Abraham's POV

Looking around the restaurant Bryan and I are eating at, I see a family of four. The parents and two kids , a boy and a girl. I cannot hear what they are talking about but they look so happy talking and enjoying each other's company. This makes a lone , betraying tear leave my eye and I try to wipe it off with discretion but Bryan notices and asks me worriedly, " Are you okay Dad, what's wrong? " "I reply a little more composed now, I'm okay , just the chilli in my steak" "Come on Dad , you've not even touched the Chilli yet. What's really wrong?" I look in the direction of the family and they appear to be leaving now. "I just miss her so much" . Bryan follows my gaze and sighs , " I know . I miss her too. You know she used to talk a lot about you. About how you guys met in college, how much you guys were in love" " She said all that? I thought she hated me " Bryan shakes his head, "Not really, she still loved you all this while. After my stepfather died, she really wanted me to finally meet you but I was not sure that was the right time. I was afraid but now , I wish I had done so earlier" . Wiping a tear away not bothering to be discreet this time, I pat his shoulder gently. "I'll always be here for you. You can always count on me son. I will do my best to be the best father and that's a promise" "Dad, I know . You're the best father already and nothing will ever change that. I promise to do everything in my power to protect you at all times. You're the only one I have left" He says.

"I love you son" "Love you too Dad. But you're still paying right? " I smirk. "Yes, happy? " He laughs. I look at him . I wish everything would always be like this . So good. "Waiter , the bill please" I call out to the red and white uniformed waiter. After paying, Bryan and I get up to go. I look around and realize that the family already left. We go out into the chilly night of the city. A few couples pass by us as we make our way to the car in the parking lot. Bryan gets in and I get into the passenger seat. " Buckle up old man, we don't want those teeth falling out just yet" . I do as he says with a chuckle. I love this kid. We pull out of the lot . Once we get on the road, I take a quick glance around. This place has changed a lot and I mean a lot. Suddenly, the car starts to shake. Bryan and I exchange worried looks. On the streets , people start falling as the ground quakes . " I think it's an earthquake" , I yell to Bryan over the sound of falling objects but he just keeps looking ahead with his eyebrows raised. " Bryan, Bryan!!" I yell louder but it seems like he can't hear me. His gaze is still fixed up ahead. I follow it and what I see shocks me to the bone. Up ahead , there is a fog and in it appear to be two figures moving in our direction. The headlamps cast big shadows of the figures. As they get closer, Bryan stops the car. The fog begins clearing. I finally see what has Bryan in such a state. My worst nightmare, my greatest mistake. Perry stands a few metres away from the car with a dark hooded figure by his side. "Bryan, get out of the car now" I yell and push him . This gets him back in his senses and we both scramble to get out. When we get out he says without looking at me"run Dad". "What , you can't fight them. You're not ready" " Please go Dad, just do it.l". I nod and turn to grab my phone from the car to call for help when I hear a booming voice behind me. "Nobody is going anywhere, especially you Doc" Perry. I turn to see him and his hooded friend running towards Bryan and I. They stop just a few feet from us. "It's been a little while , don't you think Doc. " He says whiles looking at me with his reptilian eyes. His skin is completely scaly now. A pure reptile. "Just wanted to have a little reunion" . "I know this is not you , Perry. You are not yourself. I know a part of you still wants to do something good with your life. We can fix this, fix you. Make you normal again, just come with us" I try to make him see reason. He laughs maliciously. "You are so naive. This is not a little science project. You don't know anything about me. You don't know how it feels to watch powerless as your wife and daughter are killed mercilessly before your eyes. Fix me? Who said I didn't want this . Now that I have this power , they will all pay. Every single one of those damn Russians . You know what , that is enough talking" Perry says and looks wickedly at his Companion. "Let me introduce you to Smasher . Know why his name is Smasher? " He steps back and Smasher takes off his hood. I gasp. He's very muscular with very big log like arms . Without warning, he raises both dark hands in the air and pounds them on the ground. The earth below us vibrates tremendously and I struggle to stand straight. Cracks appear on the ground and with speed like motion, he charges at Bryan.

"Imma tear you apart boy, real slow" he spits out. Bryan steps out of the way in time and positions himself in readiness for a fight. They start exchanging kicks and punches while Perry just watches on with a bored look on his face. When he realizes I'm watching him , he smirks and starts walking towards me. I turn to run but he appears right in front of me and immediately grabs me by the throat. "I said nobody is going anywhere" he growls out slowly. Ugh . Bad breath. Struggling to break free , I only make him angrier and he holds me tighter . Bryan looks in my direction which earns him a punch in the face from Smasher. "Boy you fight like a girl. What y'all been training shit for" taunts Smasher. That means they have been watching us. Bryan ignores him and tries moving in my direction but Smasher moves fast and kicks him in the knee. I hear a crack and Bryan yells in pain and drops on the other knee. The Rocky built Smasher holds Bryan in a headlock forcing him to look in my direction. "Dad, Dad" he grunts. I mouth "be brave to" him and see tears form in his eyes. Suddenly I feel a heavy pain at the back of my head and my vision starts blurring. Everything is going black. The Bastard hit me on the head. The last thing I see is Bryan struggling to break free from Smasher before everything disappears.
