Chapter 5
Carter's POV:
"I have got no idea why I am still standing here talking to you! You ruined my life. I lost my girl because of you, I lost my mother because of you, I lost my work back in London because of you! What else am I going to lose because of you huh? My life? And if I do, hell I wouldn't be even surprised. You blamed an innocent man for the death of your wife, I wouldn't be surprised if you turned out to be a serial killer, had an entire family behind our back, or did anything terrible! How do you go to sleep at night when you know that is the reason for your wife's death, that your son lost his job, alone and miserable? How do you live with yourself?" I was frustrated, I feel like all these things that I told him didn't even affect him at all, I swear this man has a piece of iron instead of a heart.
"Who told you that Jackson was innocent?" He asked smugly. Hello, can this man hear himself? I swear to god if this dude wasn't my father, I would've shot him right now! Oh, wait! He's not worth my spending the rest of my life in jail.
"He literally seemed surprised when his daughter brought the accident up. When I told him that he should know you since you guys went to school together, he told oh, I heard about your father but I have never met him! what more proof do you want?"
"You will believe a man you just met over your father?"
"At this very moment, I'd believe Satan himself, oh wait he's standing right in front of me! I bet he took off his crown and gave you the keys to hell!"
"How dare you speak in that tone with your father!" Is this dude for real? Like really.
"Are you for real? The man that I called my father died a long time ago when my mother died." with that I just walked out of the door, I couldn't stand being in the same room with him at the moment because if I stayed I know that I would've spent most of my life in jail.
"If you walk out on me now Carter you'll regret this day trust me!"
"What you gonna do? Kill me like you killed mom? Cause you sure know how to hide the evidence!"
All he did was just walk out of the door and leave me, like the nerve that he has was unbelievable! I left and decided to go back to the party as if nothing happened because I didn't want to be suspicious.
"Hey what happened? You seem kind of tense?" Jackson asked me. This man seems so nice to be involved in my mother's death.
"Nothing, just the normal bicker, me and my father aren't really goals for a father-son relationship." I looked down at my hands and just kept staring at them.
"I'm really sorry about that Carter, and I really am sorry about your mother, I wish that there is something that I could do. Tell me what you need and I'll help you." Jackson said. Okay, he's so sweet, why couldn't he be my father instead.
"Are you sure you didn't go to high school with him, maybe he was there and you just don't remember it! Or maybe it was college, not high school." I blabbed on so desperately.
"No, I don't even remember seeing him in the people older or younger than me. I'm so sorry but I've never met him. Plus, aren't you from London?" He was so sincere, then he shot that question, is he stupid or something?
"Umm, yeah, why?" I didn't want to sound rude.
"Okay, so how did I go to school or college with your father when he went to school in London and I went to school in NYC?" OMG, how that hell didn't I think about this, how could I be this stupid, it's right, how did they meet in school when they were in a completely different country and a completely different state!
"I don't know, maybe he got you confused with another Jackson," I said with the best fake smile that I could master.
"Yeah, that's probably what happened." He told me then he smiled this kind smile. Okay this man is way too innocent to be a murderer, plus innocent till proven guilty, and who knows maybe Lila is actually a nice person, she looks nice and I don't want to hurt her! But I'll do anything to avenge my mother, anything!
