The letters started very slowly appearing. The first letter being an N, it was appearing, rather burning out on the paper almost. The second letter appeared, E. The speed wasn't increasing in any way, it didn't try to become faster. What will it be? What kind of name did he create for me, is it going to be a name for me in the academy? Maybe… With that new name, I will be able to finally do what I wanted when I was to become the tool of a god, I would become the man that I wanted to just become a god himself. With that new name, I shall be a new man. A man with no emotion, nothing. Just a real shell… Y, another letter, I still have no clue of what it could be, the more is revealed the quicker I will learn. But will that name really suit me? Does it even matter though? D, the fourth letter has appeared. Still, there is nothing I really have in my mind when it comes to what name it could be. A, and then right away instantly followed H at the end. "Neydah" It's the name he created for me? It sounds very… Feminine, not manly but also not completely feminine. When I look at it, wait, is it just my own name the other way around?
"Umm-"
"Yup, I thought that your name the other way around seemed better and secondly it's not the same as Hayden. It's just what you needed, now look at your family name. It also had to be changed because the name of Moonshine is renowned in almost the entire world because of your father." Him saying something about my father made my face slowly wrinkle into anger, when I heard both my family name and the word 'father' used in the same sentence. It just made me angry, even though this is just an emotion I shouldn't feel. It's hard to suppress everything, especially if he and the rest of my family were the ones that put me here. If I wasn't in that family… There would not be Neydah, there would not be me. The new me. The new family name of mine, what will that be. Taking a glimpse of it may turn it completely. "Neydah Farthstone" was the name on the paper. Then something else appeared, another sign on it. "Disciple of gold," it said. The paper then changed into a stone thing and had everything written in gold.
"Farthstone? That sounds weird doesn't it?" I asked the man but then something appeared in his hand. It was a stone, it looked like a piece of a galaxy… Just a stone shaped thing with dark insides and white stars all around it, it felt almost like not in the place where it should be. It feels like it should be in the galaxy itself.
"This is a farthstone, it's as you probably already noticed, it looks like a part of the galaxy. A beautiful gem, one of the most expensive but most beautiful stones of the world, therefore is also a common name in this world." The stone indeed looked completely amazing, it was purple, pink, and blue, different shades of blue with the white shining stars. Almost like in my astral plane when I was creating my own earth. This one piece of stone felt like all I've seen when the imperial arrived. He gave it to me, how did it feel? I can't describe it. It didn't even feel like something, it felt more as if it was about to just fall through my hands, it was cold but hot, it was full but empty. I just don't know what I can actually say about it. "This also feels different, doesn't it? It will be probably your first and last time seeing it, probably. Maybe not. It may seem not nice but the problem is that they are just very rarely seen, most people know about them from books and images." Now I understand why many people would choose this as a family stone. It looks amazing, feels otherworldly, I don't know what I can even say about it besides praises.
"What is a 'disciple of gold'?" The question once left my mouth made him snap his finger and another thing was created in front of me. There were several big names in the middle, the top had a single name and some arrows went down towards the enlarged names, under the big names was getting smaller and smaller until it disappeared.
"The big name is where you are, the name at the top is someone like me, a real master. You as a disciple of gold are allowed almost to do anything that a master can do. You are right under me, of course not counting politics and anything like that. But overall, some privileges may come to you if you just show this badge."
"Why are you giving this to me?"
"I didn't have a disciple for a long time, a really long time. I don't think I can teach you as much as I did in my prime as a teacher, therefore this is the only thing I can give you instead of teaching you properly. I am really sorry, but the time you will have here is the time in which you will learn the basics and then something further. Then, books will be what you need. I feel guilty for being as old as I am and not being able to teach you properly. As you saw, I had to read books while talking with you to explain some stuff, therefore it just showed me how much I lost, I don't remember much anymore." Old age doesn't make a man happy nor smart. It's a state of decay, the older one gets the more annoying it is. Probably it gets even painful actually, it seems like it from the look on his face.
"Sorry…"
"Don't apologize, you did nothing wrong, it's me because I haven't had a single apprentice to teach. I went out of practice, you only confirmed it. I am no longer suitable to teach, you will probably be my last teacher, but here comes a request from me." What might it be? It's not like I don't expect it, I already know what he wants probably. But once again, it's another request. It will be… Annoying.
"What is it?" I was somehow irritated, there was a large lack of respect in the tone. It didn't move him in any way, either he knows how many things I have to fulfill or he just doesn't care about how I say a thing or two.
"You see… As I told you the moment you woke up, I am probably the last mana user in the world. I didn't catch a single word from anyone I knew, I felt no mana usage for decades from anywhere. And here comes my request… Don't kill mana, please. If you die, mana dies. No one will be able to create it again, there is no way in this world that someone would become a mana user. Teach when you will find someone suitable, please!" He was talking desperately, aggressively he caught my arm. He didn't know what to do to convince me to do what he actually wanted. "It will take some time, I know when you will hear mana for the first time. I know that you will understand what I am talking about, just please, promise me. If you find at least one person, do what I did. Teach them, I will even give you full access to this library." Should I accept this request? I need to master mana anyway if I want to achieve my goal and teaching someone mana wouldn't stray from that path.
"I… I will only answer when I hear mana, I think you understand my choice. I don't want to accept something without learning what I actually am supposed to pass down, because essentially you are telling me to become a teacher. But I still don't have anything to teach." He was looking at me desperately the entire time. He gasped loudly and then stopped with that look, he just once again gazed at me, but this time with hope. Nothing else than hope in his eyes.
"I see. It does make sense that you want first to hear it, to hear that beautiful thing. I wish that you will be able to do it, either for just wanting or for this request." Tears started flowing down from his eyes and disappearing in his old beard. It was getting drenched in his eye fluid.
"I want to become powerful, I want to do what I need to. That is to change the entire world and turn it into a place in which everyone could live, both weak and strong. I think this is the only thing I can do to prevent anyone from suffering the same pain I did. This might be the greatest thing I can do."
"That is why I decided to tell you about mana. I felt it from the start, your intentions weren't just for yourself as most disciples I had before…" He said and then warped somewhere without even leaving a trace behind.
