We drove for maybe 20 minutes after that, in clear silence because of what she said. I still heard her breathing and the small moves she was making on my shoulder. A man was standing there, he had a large backpack, beside him was a small child with a very shallow body. He looked as if he hadn't eaten for some time. The old man also looked as if he was about to collapse. We drove by them, ignoring them even though his hand was in the air asking for a talk.
