Slipping Away (3)

"Ms. Yang… Young master is currently in the emergency room. I'm on my way there now actually. His colleagues called his mother already and is also on her way to the hospital."

"Aunt Wu… how could that happen? We just saw him this lunch…" Yang Mi couldn't believe that this was happening. If she was bothered by what happened to the barrier she set up around the city, what happened to Kaisar topped all of her problems.

"Are you going there now?" Yang Mi asked, calming herself down.

Aunt Wu nodded, wiping her tears from her face. "Yes… The Chu family is living somewhere else and it would take them a few hours to arrive. I need to go and see young master's condition."

"Then let's go." Yang Mi pressed the elevator and waited for it to arrive.

As soon as the elevator's door opened for them to enter, Yang Mi practically dragged the old lady in and pressed the bottom floor. They waved a taxi to come over them once they left the condominium and paid the driver for their ride.

"Aunt Wu, it's alright. The doctors should be taking care of him now so don't worry too much." Of course, that was only based on her lipservice and not the real truth.

Yang Mi didn't even know the condition Kaisar was in. She was merely trying to calm down the old lady who would collapse the moment she found out the state he's currently in, and Yang Mi didn't want to admit another person who was close to her to the hospital and be left behind.

Once they arrived to the hospital, the two of them hurried inside to the front desk of the hospital. They wanted to ask what room he was in but just as they were about to ask the nurse, Yang Mi saw a familiar face walking down the hallway.

She shifted her feet and turned to the direction of the man, who was talking to someone on his phone and clueless that a fuming and anxious ghost about to interrupt him.

"Yes, sir! I will keep monitoring his condition and I already contacted his family members... Yes… Alright…" Yang Chao answered like a dutiful law abiding citizen to a government official. And when he was just about to turn to a corner when someone blocked his way.

He slowly raised his head up and met a blazing brown eyes set in a beautiful face of a young lady. This type of beauty, he would usually see them in the television and most of them collected several awards to store their shelves. But surprisingly, this young lady looked quite familiar. So familiar thay he had just remembered the lady who was shot in the chest a few weeks ago.

When the realization of it struck him, Yang Chao flinched as if he was slapped in the face. His eyes widened as wide as football and his jaw slacked.

"Y-you! What are you doing here?" He asked.

Instead of answering his question, Yang Mi asked in turn. "Where is he?"

Yang Chao's brow climbed up. "Who's he?"

It was natural for him to not know who she was talking about since there was a lot of people who came to the hospital and the chance of her asking about the detective who saved her was low considering that Kaisar was an anti-social man. Besides, he didn't know that Yang Mi was now living with his colleague ever since she got out of the hospital.

"Kaisar." She told him. "Where did they put him?"

At this point, an older lady came to their side. It was the old housekeeper and Yang Chao recognized him immediately.

"Aunt Wu-" Just as he wanted to greet the old lady, Yang Chao felt a hand grabbing his collar and he came face to face with that beautiful young lady.

"Don't change the topic! Where is he or I swear I'll send you to the deepest pit in hell."

Yang Chao felt the air around him thickening, choking him up. He raised a finger and pointed to the path he just walked in, "He… He's in the emergency room. The doctors are currently…"

Before he could finish what he was saying, the beautiful young lady stormed past him and walked at a fast pace towards the emergency room with Aunt Wu in tow.

The emergency room at the other end of the hallway had the green lights on, telling everyone who wanted to storm inside that an ongoing operation was going on inside and no one should interrupt them. And just as much as Yang Mi wanted to see his condition herself, she cannot trespass through the wall and see him.

From beside her, Aunt Wu was trembling and her tears were falling like rain. Yang Mi wanted to do something like say to her that everything was alright, but was it?

After almost two hours, the green light on top of the sliding door finally turn dark. The sliding door also opened wide as two doctors filed out of the room with their green scrubs and mask on.

The leading doctor in front noticed them and nodded at them, "Are you the relatives of the patients inside?"

Aunt Wu nodded her head vigorously.

The doctor sighed and took off his mask. A gloomy look passed on his face as he said, "Mr. Chu was shot at the back twice and we successfully took the bullets out." The doctor paused, letting them take the information in. Then, continued, "However, the other bullet somehow hit his spine and it took us an hour to take it out since it got stuck in his bones. Temporarily, we will admit him in the ICU and monitor his condition. But, we are unsure of when he will wake up and if there are side effects from the impact of the bullet to his spine."

Even without a medical knowledge to keep up with the doctor's vast experience in operation, Yang Mi could understand what he was saying. With the bullet hitting the spine, the nervous system would take the brunt of the force and it was possible that it would affect his movements in the future.
