The atmosphere became heavy. Everyone looked at Han with wary eyes some even went for hidden weapons in their clothes.
"Um, well you're right I did kill someone but not because I wanted to." Han answered. "One of the bandits managed to catch up to me when I was running away and I got that stab wound on my shoulder from them. If I didn't kill them I would have died."
Hearing this the rest of the group sighed and released their grips from their hidden weapons. The leader looked at Han's face to see if he was lying or not. Seeing that he seemed to be telling the truth she glanced at his shoulder before replying.
"Alright if that's the reason why then you can't be blamed for killing them. Here this will be your living quarters." She handed Han a folded sheet of paper.
Han quickly uncovered it and saw it was a map. On the map was one place that was circled red. Seeing it he quickly, looked towards his own game map and found out it's location.
"Um I have a question, what can I do to earn money here?" Han asked. He was still confused when it came to the matter of making money. He already had 256 credits but that was the loot he got after killing the bandit leader.
This time Amanda didn't answer his question. Instead one of her goons came up to him and told him about the job system. In this city apparently anyone over the age of 15 can choose to do the different jobs option given by the city leader.
"Can I take this one." Han replied as he pointed at one of the jobs on the job application sheet. The one he had pointed to was the Scavenger job. On it's description it said "Scavengers go outside of the city to drop points, that were set by the higher tier cities, on these points crates filled with supplies would be teleported. The scavengers must go out get these crates and come back to the city with them."
This seemed like a easy job on the surface, just a simple delivery service but the areas the drop points are at are filled with numerous monsters. So when one chooses to be a scavenger it wasn't that uncommon for them to die after a couple days of work.
So what was Han's reason for why he wanted to be scavenger. That was easy, he would get money for doing the job and also earn exp. Han knew that earning exp was quite useful. Leveling up didn't increase ones strength or speed but their life points and Stamina would increase.
Overall there were two ways to become a esper or mage. The first way was if you were lucky which was to either get the basic mana control spell book or the gene awakening potion. The other way was for a player to reach level 10. When they reached level 10 they would be given the option of either awakening a esper power or unlocking their mana potential.
Han didn't think he would get lucky enough to use the first method so his only chance was to get to level 10.
This was the same for most players. Unless they were lucky enough to encounter a special npc and gain one of those items from them or maybe find it randomly at their spawn point they would have to reach level 10 to choose their class.
Being a scavenger would give Han a good amount of exp if he managed to kill these monsters. He just hoped that these monsters weren't too high level.
...
A day went by as Han was given a tour of the whole city by one of the workers. The scavenger team he was assigned to was Team D. It had a group of 5 other people. 3 of them were around the age of 30 while the other two seemed to be 16 and 15.
'So two inexperienced and three veterans.' Han made a mental note. Of course he put himself into the inexperienced category as well.
After a brief instruction on what they were supposed to do and some basic formations for team fights, a new shipment of crates were about to sent over.
"Alright everyone get ready, this drop point is a lot farther than the previous ones. Make sure to be on high alert for any monsters in the area." The team leader spoke.
The two younger scavengers seemed to be slightly nervous. One of them just like Han was their first time doing this job while the other one barely did it two times.
"Hey you guys don't have to be so nervous." Han comforted. When they heard his words he looked at him with a slight sneer. 'You're as inexperienced as us don't try to act all brave.'
Seeing their gazes Han really didn't know what to do. He just wanted to calm them down but they were somehow looking down on him in such a situation.
'Maybe apocalyptic people think differently.' He thought.
1 and a half hour into their journey they found themselves surrounded by hungry looking Vile wolves. They were two times bigger than normal wolves and their bodies excreted a putrid black ooze. When this ooze touched the bones lying on the ground parts of the bones seemed to dissolve.
'This is dangerous!' Han thought, looking at the monsters in front of him they were probably around level 4 and there were 10 of them. Team D only had 6 people including him.
Han got ready to fight as he took out a long black pole. It was different from the rusty pipe he had before. This was a special weapon given to scavengers. It was stronger than most metals and had a acid resistance. When Han had checked the item it's rarity was shown as Rare. It dealt +11 ATK, had 200/200 durability, and it's special effect was that it had a 20% chance to stun a target for 1 second if it hit them on the head.
Holding the weapon Han felt a sudden burst of power. This was his first time that was a rare and had a chance to cc. Even if it was for one second it was more than enough to get another hit in.
Getting into formation Han looked on at the other team members. The two younger guys were slightly scared but still managed to get into a fighting stance. While the three older members weren't even slightly shaken when being in such a situation.
"The 3 of us will take on the 7 of them, can you guys take on the other three!" The team leader shouted. Han looked at the monsters before nodding his head.
If everything was going the right way then Han would be in a 1v1 fight with the Vile Wolf. This meant his Duelist talents general effect would activate.
'Let's get things started!' Han excitedly ran up to one of the vile wolves. He swung the pole in his hands towards its body. With no surprise the vile wolf dodged the strike and glared at Han viciously.
'Is it trying to use leer on me?' Han thought. He quickly moved on to his next attack. He put on foot out and twisted his waist and swung the pole again. This time he swung it in an angle that would make it hard to dodge. But the speed of the Vile Wolf was not something to mess with as it swiftly dodged again.
This time it didn't just dodge but went for a counterattack. Instead of dodging backwards it dodged forwards to get closer to Han.
When it did so Han released one of his hands grip on the pole and reached into his pocket. A small object was in his hands. The vile wolf on the other hand didn't care as it went for a bite at Han's neck.
Han opened the switchblade. He then pushed his foot back to cause his body to fall backwards. The vile wolf bite into air as it saw Han's body falling. While Han was falling the switchblade in his hands weren't slow either. His switchblade glowed a dim light as he had also activated Heavy Strike.
[-13]+[-13]
A huge damage text appeared above the vile wolf's head. As the switchblade also stabbed into its neck. He then saw a large amount of black blood spill from the vile wolfe's neck as its body landed on top of Han's.
A constant searing pain flowed over Han's body. He looked at the vile wolf's condition. As blood trickled down it's neck it weakened lifted up it's head to look straight at Han. Before it could try for a final attack something hit it on the top of it's head. Han looked to his side and saw the team leader.
He then looked on the other side and saw that the two young members were getting help by the other two members.
"Nice job, rookie." The team leader complimented. He help take off the vile wolf's body on Han. Han then got up from his laying position.
"Well it seems I need new clothes now." As Han said this he looked at his worn and torn clothes. There were holes all over it from the Vile wolf's corrosive body. Han also checked out the notification he gained from the fight.
[Defeated a Level 4 Vile Wolf, gained +8 exp.]
[Ding! Level increased to Level 2.]
[Life Points: 30/30]
[Stamina: 150/150]
Seeing this he was slightly happy. Now that he had more stamina and Life points this mean he was getting closer to choosing his class.
"Eh!" Han saw a notification he wasn't expecting.
[Unlocked General Skill
Han hadn't expected to unlock another general skill but having it was really useful. Although the heavy strike was good the only problem was that he couldn't use it constantly as it had a cooldown. Now he at least could use two skills in a row. Without much thought Han checked out the skill card.
[Skill Effect: Allows the user to see the vital spot. When this spot is striked damage is doubled.]
[Skill Proficiency: 0/100]
[Cost & Cooldown: 10 stamina per second, 180 seconds.]
Seeing the effect Han's eyes were almost popping. 'A godly skill this is definitely a godly skill.' He thought. He couldn't help but he slightly scared of everyone in the game now. If Han was right then the condition to unlocking this skill was striking a enemies vital for the first time.
This meant that later on everyone would have this skill and since this was a general skill anyone could use it. If a esper used this skill along with their powers than the damage would be crazy. Thinking about this Han also realized that he had to learn how to defend himself soon enough.
Otherwise he might get hit on a vital and take two times the damage from others. Han decided to put this goal as important in his mind. He then went back to what he was doing.
'Oh they seem to be putting those monsters into a special type of storage space.' Han looked on as he saw the team leader seemed to suck in all the monster corpse into a strange looking box. He looked at it for a moment before his eyes looked over at the two young members.
They had wounds all over their bodies as parts of their skin seemed to have been burned off. It was unsure whether they would be able to help in anymore fights.
"Going any further would be dangerous for you guys, so I think we will have to do a strategic retreat." The team leader assessed.
The two young member showed a dark expression as they knew it was because of them that they had to go back.
"Hey it's not your fault, honestly these situations happens all the time to us scavengers, monsters are unpredictable and day we could be having a safe trip to the drop point and another day a horde of monsters could be chasing after us." One of the older members tried comforting them.
What he said was true though. In this line of work the amount of times you succeed in getting the crates were the same as the amount you failed.
Like that Han and the rest of team D headed back to city W22. Han was given a new pair of clothing and the other two were given treatment for their injuries.
Han went back to his living quarters and assessed his fight with the vile wolf.
'I still need more training it seems like.' Thinking this Han then made a plan for himself.
